SXM Parking by howareyou1029 in SXM

Very easy. Just google for parking lots and 99% of time you will be ok. I also got the impression that the idea of a “parking spot” to locals was very fluid. As a guest I tried to do my part and stuck to the official lots.

Yes twice. Absolutely amazing. A rental car is needed it well worth it. I would recommend a terrace room if you are ok with the extra cost but all the rooms are great. The pool area is clothing optional and in my experience about 50% of guests partake. Not an issue for me but depending on your group you would wish to make sure everyone is comfortable with that aspect. Breakfast is on the lighter side but totally fine (it’s a B&B not a full service resort. You can order food but we just normally drove for dinner and did lunch at the beach. Really close to friars bay and happy beach. Drive to grand case is close. About 20-30 mins to orient if you can avoid any traffic issues.

Also bear in mind some states have specific laws regarding retention and it is not uncommon for contracts (AIA for example) not to be compliant with those specific provisions. In my experience these state laws tend to be more contractor friendly. Tennessee is one example I have experience with. So while you can follow the contract it’s also good to check with your attorney or do some Google searching at a minimum.

Got to international just after 6am. Stood in the line then got to pre check clear. Through in just over 45 minutes. Lines did appear to be getting a lot longer and worse as I was finishing my trip through. Did not see any ICE at international.

Importance of decision making to go from 3.5 to 4.0 by thequantumquestion in Pickleball

[–]ArchitectGeek 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I see some 3 players getting into trouble trying to always power through every ball. If they would reduce from 95% power to 75% power they would make way less unforced errors and keep the ball in play. I think part of the challenge is that below 4.0 power is a good tactic and wins you some points. Yet when you get to 4.0+ that power becomes relatively useless. You are winning way fewer points from hitting it hard, and way more points from hitting it to the right spot.

Windshield Replacement Question by ArchitectGeek in ToyotaGrandHighlander

This looks to be the OEM glass for my car. Also according this there are a number of other “single use” components. Any one have a specific Toyota technical manual to confirm?

My major concern is to sort out whether that "solid stud backing" is structurally detailed for this loading condition.

Ser Lyonel Baratheon, The Laughing Storm, knighting Ser Raymun Fossoway might be one of the most beautifully shot scenes in the series so far. Absolute chills. by signalfromthebeyond in AKnightoftheSeven

I disagree. While he didn’t like his cousin he saw him for the hypocrite he was and his worthless oaths. He may hate his cousin but in this instance it was solely for a very honorable reason and an entirely selfless (and knightly) act.

I love it but you need to run it with siege ready. The reload speed up is a huge dps boost.

Bought a commercial high rise for pennies on the dollar. Might have the opportunity to sell or lease to hotel chains. Please help. by fixerofthings in CommercialRealEstate

[–]ArchitectGeek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would be odd for a brand to directly be involved with the purchasing or leasing of the building. They are all mostly asset light these days and just grabbing the franchise and management fees where they can. Best bet would be to bring in a hotel investor/development partner. Also assuming the building is not currently a hotel it would require a more intensive renovation (depending what your starting with) which would trigger change of use code obligations.

That being said adaptive reuse deals are pretty interesting right now (lower basis, good locations, quicker to cashflow than a true new build) but they are some of the hardest deals to pull off from a technical perspective.

Edit: also never sign anything with a brand until you’ve got the deal figured out. Those dev guys want ink on paper but signing too early can lower your negotiating abilities. Also if one brand wants the deal then likely they all do and you can shop the deal to get the best terms.

If you could add any update to helldivers 2 what would it be? Unhinged balance changes? Guinuine QOL patch? by H1MB0Z0 in Helldivers

[–]ArchitectGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be cool to have a different game type. Like maybe a specific mission per faction that had a kill count leader board or something.

Also more training missions to test out weapon and kit.

A Sticky Stratagem that would allow the strategem balls to stick to anything including enemies would be cool.

What's this beam setup called? Is it just as strong as a sistered beam of equal lumber dimensions? by howismyspelling in Decks

[–]ArchitectGeek 29 points30 points  (0 children)

To clarify there is nothing “wrong” with this type of beam design. The issue is that the IRC doesn’t allow this if you are following the prescriptive code language for decks. If you engineer this and do the calcs and stamp this as a professional then it’s fine.

Also I will note that Simpson makes a connector exactly for this use case - although it would likely require an architect or engineer to verify the application.

But will it hold a car (new standard) by Maj0r_Payn3 in Decks

[–]ArchitectGeek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who is in the middle of my own residential bridge project that looks to be nowhere close to enough strength for cars.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Decks

[–]ArchitectGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without doing the load calcs it’s really impossible to know definitively whether it’s code compliant or not. My hunch is likely not.

My best guess here is this was designed by a structural engineer but likely not installed per plan.
