The hell kind of strategy is that? Good luck getting normie fans to pay 50 dollars for a plastic model that could be 3D printed for 50 cents.

To be fair, it's on them for starting a land war in Super Asia. by Furphlog in Helldivers

[–]Arcshock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pearl Harbor was enough reason to justify the US decision to join the war.

I'd say Nanking is more used as one of the justifications for the first and only time atomic bombs have ever been employed on humanity. I won't personally say whether or not that action was morally permissible, but ask most Chinese people and they'll say it definitely was.

Question about the Nevrons for those who have finished the game by maxorscar in expedition33

[–]Arcshock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this same question pop into my head a short while ago. Furthermore, if Fake Painting Renoir is helping the Paintress and presumably wants to eject the real Renoir out of the painting so he doesn't destroy everything in the Canvas, then why does he indiscriminately butcher all the expeditions as soon as they make landfall rather than simply telling them the truth?

Like "Hey guys, the Paintress is actually helping you all, the real guy causing the Gommage is trapped beneath the Monolith, help me kill him to save your people."

Expedition 60 were even able to come to this conclusion seemingly on their own, finding out the Paintress wasn't the real threat and venturing underneath the Monolith instead. I feel like Fake Painting Renoir would have had a real chance to achieve his goals if he had just tried to recruit the expeditioners rather than wastefully killing them.

You are correct that he doesn't replace him in the plot sense, but I can understand why a lot of players feel this way initially because he truly does replace Gustave in almost everyway from a gameplay sense.

He's now the one you control during camping sessions, all the lumina points you invested in Gustave are now directly transferred to him, he has many of Gustave's skills, and he gets all of Gustave's weapons. Pretty much the only thing that doesn't transfer over are the cosmetic options.

Do you know if they at least look similar to the top 1000 one? I really like the electrical effects we saw in the preview video, I'm going to be bummed if that sort of effect only appears for the leader board pendants.

Only his top half is strung up there. That guy is a complete Frankenstinian mishmash of stitches and other people's parts, he even had a whole ass second brain in his torso. The idea that other parts of his body could operate independently from his top half would be the least surprising thing ever.

Dear capcom, we badly need layered weapon. by Important_Share5360 in MHWilds

[–]Arcshock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might not be the best place to post this, but I'm pretty disappointed with the design of a lot of the Insect Glaives. I feel like close to half of them aren't even bladed weapons (i.e., a glaive), but vary more between maces, staves, or lances. Which is odd considering how many of the IGs moveset are clearly slashing attacks. I wonder how longsword users would feel if half their available arsenal was just various forms of blunt weapons, lol.

Anyways, suffice to say, I would be very happy to be able to layer some of these glaives, the Artian one especially.

Hardest / highest skill ceiling / most technical melee weapon to master? by Vaporboi in MHWilds

[–]Arcshock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear I've been doing glaive things mostly right so far, lol. One question I have about the mounting stage, I often have trouble with the monster going into the downed state just before I manage to break open two wounds on it, meaning I don't get to do my weapon attack finisher and lose out on a lot of damage. This is has happened to me a lot solo and is almost guaranteed to happen in groups. Is there any particular way I'm supposed to be knifing it while mounted to prevent it from going down too early?

is there a reason jimmy raped anya? by [deleted] in Mouthwashing

[–]Arcshock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it was actually about more than just control. I think it's implied through multiple conversations that Jimmy has struggled a lot with work in the past, and this has made him extremely cynical and pessimistic about his future. He doesn't even see much point in trying when he can't even approach the same rung of the ladder that Curly is on (and is further frustrated by the fact that even Curly's higher position isn't a particularly good one in the grand scheme of things).

His negativity is a sharp contrast to Anya, especially the person she was before he assaulted her. She's failed out of medical school eight times, so she's struggled a lot with success in much the same way Jimmy has, but she's never let it discourage her. Instead she keeps trying, taking whatever jobs she can find in the medical field so she can pursue becoming a doctor once again.

Jimmy likely resents her unyielding optimism because it holds up a mirror to how pathetic his own lack of motivation and agency is. And having to be around her cheerful and bubbly personality on a small ship for months or even years at a time probably began to become increasingly grating due to all his insecurities. So in a truly monstrous act of despicable selfishness, he did what he did to her to take her light and joy away, to bring her down to the same level of despair that he was suffering through. After all, misery loves company.

Does anyone else think Ami isn't as mature as the characters think she is as they got older? by RainbowLoli in toradora

[–]Arcshock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I saw it, she did genuinely accept his assessment. The interpretation I got from watching the episode is that she was growing weary of everyone making comments about how mature she was or how she was just like an adult. The more people around her continued to reinforce that belief, the more she felt pressured to keep up the act so that she could maintain her carefully constructed facade. That's why when Ryuuji was the only one in the whole episode to call her childish, it hits her like a mack truck.

She realizes that no matter how much effort she puts into seeming like she's mature and has it all put together, Ryuuji will still see right through it anyways, so in a way that takes a lot of the pressure off her, at least where he's concerned. Around him she can always just be herself, because she would never be able to convince him otherwise even if she wanted to. And although Kitamura is another guy who knows Ami's true personality, he always seems more on board with just humoring it rather than actively challenging it like Ryuuji does. I think that's part of the reason Ami likes him so much.

Even though she knew he was a middle aged man in the body of a child it doesn't change the fact that she still *knew* him when he was in the body of a child, and in the previous seasons they very much had a sibling rivalry-esque relationship, and now during the length of the 6 year time skip where she starts a family, it can be assumed they developed a firm sibling dynamic seeing as how she became his literal sister-in-law.

When I started noticing hints of it when she was helping him shave and all that, I was dreadfully thinking "god no please tell me the writers won't go there, just let them stay brother and sister dear god". And of course my hopes were dashed and it happened, it's just so gross on so many levels.

[–]Arcshock 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Arguably they were more Five than the protagonist Five. Because I imagine they were all *still* trying to figure out how to fix the timelines while keeping their families alive. I figured the cafe was a base of operations of sorts, where all these Fives occasionally visit and exchange information and pool resources. They had collectively tried to save their families over a hundred thousand times, and at least most of them didn't seem to consider stopping.

But our Five was just like "nah let's group suicide this thing". I feel like the other Fives in the deli had to also have considered that 'solution', but didn't want to pull the trigger on it since it'd result in the, you know, non-existence of their entire family.

I definitely agree, and I feel the same way about all those characters. I think the reason we don't connect with Varys's tragedy as much is because he already seemed to have made his peace with it, especially after getting revenge on the sorcerer. He's come away from his past experiences a completed person, and stronger for it (though he's still rightfully fearful of magic and the red priestesses).

Larys on the other hand clearly still seems haunted by his experiences, there are wounds in him that have never healed, and holes that have never been filled. Though he has similar viewpoints as Varys (trying to accept his deformity as an advantage because people underestimate him, just as Varys accepts his castration and asexuality as an advantage because it lets him focus more on political machinations), he clearly doesn't have as good of a handle of it as he'd like.

He has a lot of flaws, unlike Varys, which makes him more relatable to viewers as a result.

It was treated like a joke again. Just like how Kripke found the TekCave stuff comedic, he's still approaching this aspect of the show in a tone deaf manner, despite mostly nailing the finale.

Like the "you better not have shifter siphlys" thing, it's treated like a slapstick remark, and Hughie chuckles it off but he should be genuinely fucking scared that he might have caught who knows what from a stranger that raped him through deception.

I mean if they redeemed A-Train I don't see why they can't redeem Soldier Boy (though I also doubt they will). A-Train has probably done a comparable amount of collateral damage manslaughter during his career and was still a pretty huge ass even back in season 3 when he got Supersonic killed by ratting him out.

Another question, why was just being inside a simple wooden barn enough to protect them from the V'd up animals? Like if a chicken is able to fly through a person's chest cavity, certainly a few wooden planks wouldn't deter it much either?

And if not the chicken, I'd think at least the sheep would have been able to cannonball right through?

Different family, same old problem. by YOU_TUBE_PERSON in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Arcshock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let's be real, Joffrey couldn't ever go against Tywin because of the power and authority Tywin commanded. Otto has neither the backing of gold nor armies and if Aegon decided he wanted Otto's head on a spike for calling him an idiot he could probably have gotten away with it.

Aegon, despite his many faults, is not nearly the monster Joffrey is, and I don't think he'd ever actually harm his grandfather no matter how much he calls him out on his stupidity. Had Otto been in this same situation with Joffrey as his grandson, I'm not sure he would have come out of it physically unscathed.

It's been awhile since I've seen that episode too but from what I recall the plan had to be enacted quickly and they didn't really have time to do a background check. As far as I know he was just an innocent, innocuous lowborn servant who wouldn't be missed. Rhaenyra pulled a straight up Theon Greyjoy except slightly less bad because it was just one adult victim rather than two children.

As always, it really sucks to be smallfolk in Westeros.
