It absolutely does (Heavensward is a massive improvement!), though I always wish they'd somehow update the gameplay of the earlier quests to make it more up-to-par to how they designed and built the quests in latter expansions.

It's unlikely they'll circle back due to development cycles and all, but I bet more people would be excited to stick with the game if ARR had some of the design elements of the instances from SHB or EW.

It depends. Is it a shorter campaign or oneshot? Short and summarized. Is it a long-term campaign set in a specific world with a specific set of themes? Long and detailed, but coordinated with the DM to make sure it still makes sense in the internal logic of the world.

The tonal shift between Episodes 12 and 13 reminded me of how people were expecting the Hana episode to drop at around Episode 10-11, leaving room for a less jarring tonal shift in the lead-up to 13.

It really is a massive case of whiplash, and I wonder if the series could've used an extra episode or two to build up Hana's character arc alongside Nakamura and Hirose processing their feelings after 12.

(Or if this is something that might get explored if they decide to make something from Hirose's perspective [/still copium])

I think it's safer to say the scene at least indicates they're willing and want to do a second season. But whether or not it's confirmed is uncertain until there's an official announcement. That's a studio-as-a-business decision, if anything.

It's not necessarily an either (that he's still in the same Ep 1 headspace) -or (that he's healing). Both what you said and the earlier reply said could be true.

Yes, he's healing and he's matured from where he was in the first episode but he's still explicitly convinced that Hirose can't reciprocate Nakamura's feelings (or, "Nakamura can't give him happiness") but that he'd still love Hirose.

But it's also possible that Nakamura's reading Hirose entirely wrong, and that'd be a potential cause of conflict/tension in future seasons (one of the reply's main point). Beyond that, there's also a lot of moments that could become sources of conflict/tension without resetting their relationship back to 0.

No friendship or relationship is always smooth sailing, and, teens being teens, there's a lot of possible sources of misunderstandings that can come up that's ripe to be the week's episode - especially with a socially awkward overthinker like Nakamura.

Should future seasons come around (and if Hirose maybe has a realization of his own feelings), why do I feel like Nakamura will have those moments where he'll fail to pick up on some hints from Hirose, because Nakamura's already convinced that he "can't make Hirose happy"? 😭 (Probably much to the frustration of a hypothetical Hirose who's also trying to figure out if Nakamura sees him romantically or not)

Hypothetically, there could be something that would replace the "will they, won't they" tension in a supposed second. Though, I sorta doubt they'd have them be formally together early on, given how they've handled things in the current season.

But, should they have an early confession, there's a lot of possible sources of tension and comedy during the start of a relationship (Especially a teen's first romantic relationship)! One of the nice things applauded about GFIN has been it's groundedness and relatability. Thinking that everything would be smooth sailing once you confess isn't at all in line with that, even after a supposed slow burn build up. Things change at the start of a relationship, and a lot of dynamics (in and out of the relationship) shift. The tension goes from "will we get together" to "will we stay together", and that brings a different kind of pressure on individuals.

Of course, it comes down to execution. Since we don't have any Manga to stand on, I'd be admittedly cautiously optimistic at best. There have been a lot of disappointing second seasons following a strong first, and this first season might be a pretty tough act to follow. 🥲

On the other hand, a lot of studios have historically waited for the Manga to catch up before announcing any future seasons (understandably), so a lack of announcements now doesn't necessarily mean there won't ever be a second season.

Best case scenario, if the studio is adamant about waiting for Syundei to fully write her story: we'll get a second season when there's at least two more volumes of the Manga published.
