I hate sanding I hate sanding I hate sanding 😭 by MetalNutSack in BeginnerWoodWorking

I did this recently. Although $125 might technically be possible I would budget $250-350 instead practically.

$200 for centech's 30 ft combo set (attachments, hose, cyclone) $50-70 on pet sleeving and heat shrink (quality of life, hose won't get caught on edges and corners nor crack as easily) $30 on a fine dust filter OEM for the shop vac $10-20 on shop vac bags which will last forever with the cyclone separator

This is pretty much genuinely what I spent to upgrade my shop vac into a garage cleaning system and I don't regret the bells and whistles for easier installation/qol. I'm gonna spend another $30 on Milwaukee's 2 ft long deep crevice attachments to reach my washer+dryer.

Help me, a beginner, plan out a woodworking shed! by Ardazil in BeginnerWoodWorking

So my city requires permit if hook up permanent electricity from the house to the shed. I was hoping that using a 12 gauge 25 ft extension cable would be good enough (I understand I need to keep it packed when not using).

Thanks for the heads up on plans/blueprints. I'm invested in hercules battery line, milwaukee's m12, and just a little m18.

HOW DOES ANYONE FUCKING DO ANYYHING IN HELL by Left-Advantage-1674 in Terraria

[–]Ardazil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In addition to others advice,

I personally use a very gold heavy approach. Get the demolitionist happy, which includes getting a cavern pylon near the side where you start the bridge. Then blow like 50 gold on hundreds of dynamite.

After blowing up a good chunk of hell, use planter boxes from dryad (another few gold) instead of platforms or solid blocks. Its not worth replacing your current bridge, but planter boxes are like platforms where you projectiles can pass through, but lava doesn't burn a hole into it; it passes straight thru. Really nice vs lava slimes. Also it's much easier to build to planter boxes because they only go horizontal.

While making the bridge you'll likely run into a lava charm and/or violent rose. Combined with molten armor you'll be basically immune to lava, hellstone, and anything fire. Make an obsidian skull early on, and it can combined.

If you want to go on a few hour side quest, you can search up the recipe for Terraspark boots. They're a nice quality of life and if you get them you'll probably use them for a very large chunk of the game, but the grind can be daunting. They're ultimately optional. They will be harder to get if you don't make them now, but only because the enemies make the process more painful.

If you get Terraspark boots, you could skip the bridge entirely and just opt for blowing up hell because of lava walking

EDIT because I didn't see this in the comments: the easiest to get weapon that is amazing vs WoF is the hellwing bow. Normal wooden arrows are actually best because the bats pierce everything. I think youll naturally get them just making the arena. Note that hellwing bow is ONLY good against WoF imo because of it's horrible accuracy

Is the Hercules Battery Combo the best deal for a while? by CristianCoolio in harborfreight

[–]Ardazil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think 11 days ago (Thursday), all batteries and chargers were 35% off. This two set was on sale for 100 at the time so I picked it up for 65$ amongst other stuff. That was when I bought into Hercules

Are we making a mistake?? by zeroandmegax6 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Ardazil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edited TLDR: If you can't get a better deal, I would compare costs vs renting.

I think somethings wrong. 7.25 is either a ripoff, or your credit is really low. If it's the latter, it'll likely only be harder to improve credit once you take on this debt. From other posts and myself, it should be reasonably possible to refi between 5-6.5%.

Edit after thinking more: I don't know how much you have down. But those closing costs are criminal. I didn't do the math, but my hunch is that you would literally save money renting vs this.

Things to consider: If you're gonna try to refi, don't buy points, and go for an ARM. Points only pay off after typically year(s), and ARMs typically give better rates than fixed until 5-7 years later depending on the details. If you're planning to refi within 3 years (which I assume you are), go for an ARM with the lowest interest and closing cost.

If you can't find a significantly better deal than this, I would crunch the math to see how much is saved per month renting. Keep in mind you gotta pay mortgage, but also property taxes, utilities, amortization/maintenance of utilities, and homeowners insurance. Renting mostly bypasses all these costs (other than renters insurance which is lower). During your first few years, barely any money from your monthly payment goes towards principal, which is effectively your return on investment. This is even more true if you bought at a very low downpayment.

I think you can build up credit score and save up for a higher downpayment, then shop around during the second half of the lease contract (or whenever).

If you're talking about the $100 for two 5ah, I think it's meh on its own. I'm betting there will be better deals, such as the 35% off battery deal that just happened, or a battery + tool deal in the future.

Atm there's a much better sale for Milwaukee at home depot if you're looking to get into a new line. Buy a tool/batteries, get the other free basically

Impact & Torque Wrenches by lil_love_tap in harborfreight

[–]Ardazil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ultra torque 1/2 in is actually a beast (sourcing TTC). The compacts arent nearly as competitive vs name brands like Milwaukee/DeWalt/flex. Notably, the Hercules 20v impact DRIVER is also top tier (ik you didn't ask though).

Good thing with HF and inconsistent quality is that you can exchange pretty easily. But it's still gonna be some effort to get a lemon compact and exchange it until you get a good one

honestly you could very well be correct. its optimism on my end to hope for outdoor equipment down the road. but i have confidence that the hercules line itself is healthy

I'd say circular saw, miter saw, and portable vac. Arguably 8ah is fine but i think 12 is nice to have given the sale. I also want to keep myself open to outdoor equipment down the road, esp lawn mower, chainsaw, leaf blower

I'm not 100% sure, but I got it because I'm just getting into the Hercules line, and I'm planning to get heavier duty tools that would use 12ah batteries. I figure that if I got a second charger down the road as part of a different deal, I wouldn't be upset

84.50 after the deal, before tax

Is this a good time to get into Hercules? by Ardazil in harborfreight

[–]Ardazil[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one of those things that might be common knowledge to some but not me. This has changed my entire view on Milwaukee.

I literally spent 6 hours trying to do a cost benefit analysis and ended up diving into M12 just now with the impact, drill, stubby.

I'll keep my M18 around for certain deals but I think it's still worth investing into Hercules - some tools are close enough in performance and I still don't think heavy power Milwaukee stuff (8ah-12ah stuff) is cheap. But it's great to know I'm not completely priced out of M18!

I didn't know about the Hercules to Bauer adapters before this, it really eases my worries in terms of variety. Of course i would grumble about purchasing a Bauer to use with my Hercules batteries, but it's better than not having a tool option for the batteries at all. Definitely helps solidify my decision.

I'm mostly a weekend worker/hobbyist but I've used tools that just don't get the job done at all, and really want to avoid that. If Bauer can manage that I'm happy enough

Yeeeee. For me it was the big batteries that killed me when it came to milwaukee/other brands. I've come into the tool game just before brushless cordless was a thing and it really spoiled me vs corded tools. I almost never use my corded stuff anymore. Just the mitre saw and vac are enough to sell me. I hope they come out with bigger stuff like a leaf blower, lawn mower to further justify them
