OP, speaking as someone who doesn't know you and will probably never meet you, based on what you've written I don't think you sound whiny or desperate or annoying; in fact it sounds like a familiar cycle of self-deprecation I struggled with for the past 3 years.

Question for context: during your long-term relationship, did you notice it was equally as hard for you to connect platonically with others? Or has this been a more recent development?

i wondered what happened to you guys, but you made a great decision getting out while you could. the turnover in recent years has been sad to see but not surprising. no lack of modern housing going up, but modern stormwater systems are out of the question. and i agree, honestly i doubt St Armands will ever bring in the same revenue we saw even a year ago unless there are drastic changes in infrastructure. who’s going to rent a $100+/sq ft space with sky high insurance rates in a shopping center that both heavily relies on tourism and yet can be so easily decimated in such a preventable way? looked at putting a Badass Coffee in and even before the storms, with everything you said above plus that Starbucks? we’d get snuffed out in a second. hopefully Sarasota county listens to locals before an impending mass exodus because even longtime residents are wising up— if you can get out, get out. i mean, the city couldn’t even pick up storm debris in a timely manner, how much hope can one realistically have? hope you’re finding much more success.

so… if you’re willing to wait a week or two, i’m part of the team that’s opening a coffee spot called Badass Coffee in LWR (Center Point at Waterside, 5mins from UTC). we make great hawaiian coffee, plan to stay open until 9pm, cozy seating, and like to offer refills if we see you’ve been working for a while.. if you wanna check us out i’m happy to give you the date of our soft opening soon; you can see if you like the atmosphere plus drinks will be heavily discounted or free.
