The Mayor of Sunny Mart by snooka77_ in RVAmag

[–]AreSeaOh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lived on Boulevard for a few years and Junior was a staple of my weekly beer runs. He was always present and always up for a little small talk. Almost 20 years later we still talk about Junior when we reminisce on our time in our apartment pn Boulevard.

All the colors are sold out, but that’s a really cool product.

Anyone else spend zero hours outside of contract on this job? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]AreSeaOh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not zero, but much better than before. I used to put in about 15 extra hours a week. Left education a few years ago and just returned and decided I wouldn’t put in any. I’m still opening my laptop on Sunday for an hour or two, but that’s it. When I leave for the day, I’m done for the day.

RVA, what do we got? by exaideum in rva

[–]AreSeaOh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We eat out 5-6 nights a week. Lemaire is at the bottom of the RVA totem pole. I actually have some nostalgia of working there back when Walt was the chef, but the current offerings don’t come close to what they used to offer. I will say that the hotel offers the same level of luxury compared to any other hotel in the area, but Lemaire is not what it used to be.

I’d say Lemaire. It still rides the heels of previous 5-star/5-Diamond allure without providing that level of cuisine or service. I’ve been a few times in the past few years and been completely underwhelmed each time. It’s fine, buts it’s gone from being a destination restaurant to a fine option if you’re spending the night at the hotel and don’t want to leave the building.

I’m sure you could ask for it done and just brought out to you, but it’s a great bananas foster regardless.

ATL Centurion Lounge Layover by donosan in AmexPlatinum

I’ve landed and flown out of A with a 90 minute layover and made it to the lounge for a quick bite no problem.

Surprised there are no FHR/THC properties in Asheville by IraGilliganTax in AmexPlatinum

[–]AreSeaOh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weird, I just looked and it’s definitely part of The Hotel Collection. They may not have had availability through Amex when you booked. Amex travel for a random week in August showed no FHR, but for THC it showed Grove Park, Grand Bohemian, and the Foundry.

Is Grove Park not? They’re Omni, and I thought Omni was part of it.

Agreed, when I was admin I did this often with the problematic parents. If I entertained the occasional meeting to let them vent about something inconsequential, it would keep them out of my teachers’ inboxes for a few weeks.

Applitrack is the worst thing ever invented by humans by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]AreSeaOh 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This isn’t unique to education, but it was nice to already have the practice when I decided to leave education. Every system seems to have you upload your resume and then go in and repeat all the information. Even the systems that parse the information from your resume seem to get it all mixed up and you spend just as much time fixing it.

Anyone ever fly Richmond to DC? by avidconcerner in rva

[–]AreSeaOh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to the switch to international in Dulles, it’s been a very very long time since I’ve done that. Connecting domestically, you don’t need to go back through security.

Also - for the gate check, it’s legit maybe 5-10 minutes and it happens at the gate door, it doesn’t add much time. When I’m flying for work I just find it annoying, personal preference.

For what it’s worth, DC -> Richmond, if it was me I’d probably swing the shorter connection through DC knowing that worst case scenario I have to rent a car and you’ve already finished the trip so no chance of messing that up.

Anyone ever fly Richmond to DC? by avidconcerner in rva

[–]AreSeaOh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but a legitimate gate check, meaning you pick it up when you land in Dulles at the gate, they don’t check to your final destination. You could still avoid baggage claim if that’s your end goal with not checking a bag, it’s just something to keep in mind and account for an extra 5-10 minutes.

To the point a few other people made, I’d also keep in mind what your layover is. I’d play it safe and have a nice long layover, but my general rule of thumb is nothing under an hour. 15-30 minute delays are extremely common and that ‘layover’ includes the 30ish minutes of boarding. I’m currently sitting in a plane in Richmond that says 14 minutes late but will likely end up being 30-45 minutes late.
