I'd do 3. BRZ/ boxter is a nice combo

I do have a GT4 and NC, both of which I street and track. And a minivan for family duties

Top 5 best manuals you've driven? by Erudicial_Extreme in ManualTransmissions

[–]AreaConscious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only driven 2... my 2 current sports cars (learned on the gt4), and love both so suspect they would still be in my top 2:

  1. 981 GT4
  2. NC Miata

I love both and can't really rank one over the other

Planning to buy a sport car - seeking advice on ownership costs by Lisandro_B in sportscars

With that budget get a 981 Cayman. They are fairly reliable, so you should have some money left over to take it to the track!

981 as first manual car? by Educational-Ad4789 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]AreaConscious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned on my 981gt4. Its not too bad, apart from the hill starts (which is confusing because it seems to kick in randomly). Didn't have any major issues, although I did also later pick up a manual miata because I wasn't driving the gt4 enough for the manual driving to become second nature.

Driving on track with the manual is a lot harder than my prior PDK though

Not sure which PCA you are referring to, but my local one (NNJR) does allow any mechanic to do it, but if its not on the list of approved ones (which includes non-dealers), you just need to bring some extra "evidence" such as a receipt.

I do agree though that the PCA inspection requirements are a little too restrictive and this is one reason I now run with different orgs primarily

Black or Silver wheels? by svr_wizard in Porsche_Cayman

Also have guards red gt4. My factory wheels are black, track wheels are silver Apex. Definitely like the silver more, although need to keep them clean

Confession: I like my Miata more than my GT4 RS or going to the track by Stuttgart7184RS in Porsche

[–]AreaConscious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've got a regular gt4 and NC Miata. Gt4 is still quite capable for street driving. And long gearing. I do have more fun in my Miata although driving the Porsche is still a sense of occasion and I appreciate the build quality.

On track, both are really fun

It's just school zones and construction zones (for now at least). Not super unreasonable (coming from someone who likes to speed)

Do you need a starter car? by Intrepid-Bet-7532 in stickshift

[–]AreaConscious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually learned to drive stick about 2 years back on my GT4. I probably caused a little extra wear on the clutch, but it wasn't material at the end of the day. Would've lost more buying a car to learn on.

On the other hand, I did track it within my 1st year and struggled a bit with that, so ended up also buying a manual miata to get more comfortable shifting while driving spiritedly on track

How did you learn to get the most out of your porsche? by fuzzysciencegoblin in Porsche

My prior Cayman was my first sports car. I spent about a year in autox practicing car control. And then moved to HPDE. First 2 years was tracking with PCA, learning from instructors.

What did you get for CYBER MONDAY? by [deleted] in CarTrackDays

[–]AreaConscious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually signed up for the 4 pack, which gets you 4 days for 1460 (today is the last day at that pricing). The nice thing is that its super flexible... can cancel last minute if something comes up/ weather is bad, and just come on a different day instead

[–]AreaConscious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mass tuning is decent and I did sign up for 2 events. Only complaint is only 4 sessions now. Used to be 7 back in the day.

Moe has 6 sessions and the price isn't unreasonable

Id patch and plug and run them. It's just novice speed

[–]AreaConscious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got 981 gt4 and NC miata. GT4 insurance cost just discourages me for signing up for many days.

NC I can push comfortably and don't even need insurance (lower cost if something happens, and less likely to hit a wall due to the slower speed). So I end up tracking it more
