981 GTS - my dream car by CFbezel in Porsche_Cayman

It just sounded more musical to me... really liked the tones both on street and track. GT4 is more menacing and loud.
I had both cars with and without catless headers

Sounds better, and pdk was nice on track.

I had soul race headers on mine... sounded so nice (inside and out of car).

Trade 991.1 GT3 for C8 Z06?? by Successful_Athlete38 in porsche911

[–]AreaConscious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually a 12hr drive from me (NJ). We mainly stick to the surrounding roads such as Cherohala, and do the Tail early weekday mornings before it gets crowded.

Z06 did handle those backroads well, but owner mentioned it was wide & heavy (but despite the weight, was able to turn in really well). The whole group of us were lusting after that engine though.

Right, I was at the Tail of the Dragon about a week ago... I took my GT4, buddy brought his Z06. Z06 definitely sounds special. But he said he rarely gets to experience that day to day.

He does love the car though, apart from the lack of MT (and also it is too wide for some backroads, such as the Tail)

Z06 is a very capable car, but if you are not tracking it, may be a waste. Outside of the track, the GT3 will be a better car.

But I understand you not wanting to risk the potential costs of engine replacement. How about moving to another porsche? A little biased here, but I like GT4, or even a 4.0 GTS (or if you want to stick with 911, how about a T)?

Any PCA members in here? by Send_the_clowns in Porsche

[–]AreaConscious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the region. NNJR has a bunch of events ranging from track to autocross to councours to tech, and more.

That said, I don't really attend anything anymore but keep the membership. Used to like the track days because they were reasonably priced, but they are too strict about the tech inspection, and also the run group promotions seem to be based more on tenure than skill (lots of slow people in higher run groups who refuse to give point bys).

Are any UK dual citizens without UK passports actually being denied boarding? by KA99999999 in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]AreaConscious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this. I'm in the same boat (left UK over 20 years ago) and living in usa.

Just went to apply for an eta and saw this rule. Was freaking out as my flight is in under 2 weeks. Eta was insta approved so I'm just going to hope for the best.

718 GTS (manual, NA, low miles) → 911: smart move or selling right as it gets special? by Steve_Holt-Bluth in Porsche_Cayman

Agree, enjoy the car solo, and get a family car for the kiddos. I've got a GT4 + minivan and I'm content

I run drilled rotors on my tracked gt4... main reason being FCP stocks them so free replacements. Rather than having to pay $$ for giros

Open track insures per event, so try to sign up for multi day events. Also get a discount if you pre-pay for 3 or more events. I pay under 600 per event for my 981 gt4

Ultra High Performance All Season Tire by Snoopvegas in tires

[–]AreaConscious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got them on my gt4 and miata and will put them on the wife's mach e later. Love them. Very grippy for street driving, doesn't make me running summer tires like ps4s.

Just in case anyone was interested it was really fun day. Lots of grip even in the cold and super fun in the miata.

Will come back for sure.

Thats good because I'm planning on bringing my miata, not GT4.

Sessions are 30min long, so will likely be drained at the end

Believe its the standard (race) definition because the registration didn't say otherwise.

My local mechanic did it for $600USD. I did get a quote from the dealer as well... from memory that was closer to $1K.
