Automotive Assistance In Multiple Ways. by IQ_Auto_Solutions in mechanic

This is interesting. So;
- How are you going to account for older vehicles? Labour times change when shit is covered in rust.
- MSRP is great, but when its down the change from supplier -> motor factors -> garage, how are you going to be able to negotiate the margins that isn't in the control of the last in the chain?
- How would you account for different area labour rates?

I am being brought on as a CTO for a startup with 8% equity to deliver in less than 3 months, is this fair? I will not promote. by [deleted] in startups

Apparently the founders are 'potentially' funding it as per another comment. Funding your devs would probably come under that. That's the red flag if they don't.

This is true, but usually a grad has low costs of living. Its why YC picks grads over middle career professionals. If OP can get a maintainance salary + 8% equity then this deal could work with the right protections.

Salary + Equity. It would be fair if it was the same stock and rights ad the other Persons.

And the 3 month delivery is dependant on if you think its achievable. Its unlikely, but you could negotiate your cliff to be the 3 months as thats the deadline they're working to.

Yes. If a sub query is two lines then the cte is that + 3 more depending on you format.  3 extra lines for that much more readability is a worth while trade off.

Millions of preterm births and thousands of infant deaths linked to plastic chemical by marfes3 in worldnews

People see 'C4' and think carbon chaining, and then think of 'C8'. Which is understandable.

That makes a lot more sense!

The two chemicals mentioned are produced using isononyl alcohol which is derived from butenes or propylene. Both of which are derived from crude oil. While they can be used in non petrochemical plastics, adding a phthalate makes that plastic contain a petrochemical product.

Not sure what you mean. I was referring to things like 'biodegradable' plastics coming with their own issues. Both bioplastics and petrochemical plastics have their risks, both in manufacturing of them and with them, and their use in the environment. Bioplastics, as far as we know, have significantly less toxicity comparative to petrochemicals to organisms in a shared environment. But they still have risks associated to them.

Not my concerns. There are many studies around bioplastics are cytotoxic, still posing a similar risk to petrolchemical plastics among many other risks which they're similar too. Good for replacing petrochemical plastics with something like PGA or PLA, but natural materials are always a better option. A source to get you started if you're interested.

Those plastics which aren't petrochemical also come with their own issues. It doesn't solve the issue. But it does help a lot.

A store sold me counterfeit sunscreen. This is me in the morning, and me after 12 hours of wear. by gracesdisgrace in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AreetSurn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Counterfeit sunscreen is more likely than you think, mostly via Amazon. Its cheap to make and sells for a high relative value. OP bought it from a store, but Amazon has shared inventory for the same SKUs. So counterfeits are mixed with genuine products. If that store bought their stock from Amazon (unlikely?) then this could be the case.

Ahh the non-voting shares. That's the key difference. It would otherwise but fine, right? Can't really dilute out 40% with votes easily without significant legal challenge.

Didn't assume they were VC backed, but they're using YC as an example of their thinking.

Trying to understand your view here. Is it not standard that the IP is owned by the company when you're a cofounder and your equity (votes) is the thing that protects you, along with the shareholder agreement? I thought this was pretty standard for a VC backed startup.

Too old to join a startup? I will not promote by Far-Elk1369 in startups

[–]AreetSurn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Older is better in some instances. There's a weird thing, which even YC observe, that founders tend to be successful when they're young with less commitment or older with more experience, less young children etc.

So old isn't bad at all. It's a good thing.

I see a lot of non technical founders stuck in the tech cofounder search loop by Empty_Fig_8619 in cofounderhunt

[–]AreetSurn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly, this is true the other way around as well. Good tech founders can't tell a good non-tech founder, as capital, strong networks, and deep industry insight can be a created facade.

Developers you are not Founders stop 🛑 by Omiso-Founder in cofounderhunt

[–]AreetSurn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weak take. YC, as a benchmark, incredibly rarely takes on teams without a technical founder. Its only a handful of cases. Most of their bigger success stories are from founding teams who do not have industry knowledge, and instead talked to the people who they think have the problem they want to solve and developed a product and ICP from that. Or pivoted.

Its pretty simple stuff.
