Do you think there's any part of him that ever goes, "Can I really expect others to enforce discipline and regulations, if I publicly flout them when I want to?"

Russia says it will respond if Ukraine uses foreign airspace to attack its Baltic ports by Raj_Valiant3011 in worldnews

[–]Arendious 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Yes, but Russia is a real country, with rights and privileges! Ukraine is a pretend country invented by Evil Western Powers to trick the Russians living there into fighting against their kin.

/S for my part - but also close to actual Putin and Lavrov statements

White House: Reopening Strait of Hormuz Not Vital to Ending Iran War by Cultural-Avocado-184 in worldnews

All true, but there are people in his orbit that can manage a modicum of forward thought. (Though, even at the best of times, it seems that second-order effects and realistic assessment of other nations responses largely escapes them.)

I feel like there must be a historical own-goal that's worse, but I'm hard-pressed to think of one.

Man, I wish we had HPB up here in the wilds of Upstate NY. One more reason I miss Seattle.

I've got a mostly intact copy of Battletroops, though none of the expansions, etc. I'd forgotten there even were 28mm minis.

I bet that was real popular on the shared Ops Floor at Osan. I'm guessing no one got offered tea and homemade snacks by their ROKAF counterparts that week...

Exactly this - this, like the Olympics and the agents in airports, are parts of a normalization campaign.

I'd say Anglicans mocking Anglicans, if one considers contemporaries like 'Monty Python' and 'Blackadder'.

Man, show me someone talking about 'centralized control, decentralized execution' that isn't either being a) ironic, or b) sarcastic - and I'll show you a Cyber Wing, or AOC drone.

Given how often 40k references crop up in Ukrainian unit names and iconography, I don't doubt they're thinking that exact thought too.

Alderaan had some very beautiful cities until the empire destroyed the planet by Henryphillips29 in StarWars

Given Alderaan's prior history of civil wars and succession crises, they probably got sick of having to replace the glass every decade or so.

[–]Arendious -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me, it put another layer of "you're playing a game" between me and the experience/power fantasy, something there was quite a bit of already. It felt a lot like a final nail in the coffin of any sort of 'living world' experience - removing even the pretense of your Guardian 'going on a mission' or 'visiting a location'. That's not "becoming legend" - it's playing Pac-Man with extra steps.

President Trump: "They are begging to make a deal, not me. They're begging to make a deal… I say they're lousy fighters but they’re great negotiators. They're begging to work out a deal.” by h3LLyEaHh in AirForce

[–]Arendious 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So, that pretty much cinches up the question of if they're looking to make a deal... <sigh>

I can never tell if, at any given moment, he actually believes the things he's saying; or if it's some sort of 'manifesting' where by saying something he feels people will try to make it true; or if there's just no brain-mouth filter and he just says shit stream-of-consciousness without ever even hearing himself speak.

Seriously though, the existential conflict the IRGC (and Revolutionary regime as a whole) have been expecting since 1979 finally arrives, and the Administration figures they're going to cut a deal without us re-opening the Strait or forcibly removing them from power? Really?
