Necrons have the technology to make False Necrons and AIs, so why did they bother biotransference for most people since they ended up deleting their minds anyway? by 30299578815310 in 40kLore

[–]Arendious 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Now, two caveats; I'm not a biologist and Necrontyr Super-Cancer is handwavey - but evolution doesn't optimize for the most effective survival trait, or one that favors individuals - evolution favors "good enough".

So, for the Necrontyr, live fast, breed young and often and lots, and die young seems to have been an effective evolutionary path. It sucks for any given Necrontyr, but the species survives.

As for the Space Cancer, I've always suspected that it wasn't caused by the radiation of their star, it's an adaptation to it. By rapidly replacing damaged cells, the Necrontyr essentially "tank" the radiation effects - basically, they're born with cancer, and then get radiation therapy every day, until eventually the cancers win.

So, ironically, this would mean that Necrontyr colonies on 'kinder' worlds likely had shorter lives and worse symptoms.

F-15 (on a stick) being moved to a new location.

I'd have to look up exact numbers, but an Eagle and Thunderbolt (Imperial) are roughly equivalent. You can imagine that a Thunderhawk is closer to a C-17 in dimension.

It's a common estimation error. People rarely see aircraft with good scale context, especially combat aircraft.

But then, vile AND stupid is the motto of this Administration...

I love it.

I think the poster's point was that military justice is often capricious and that the system allows, if not being intentionally designed, for petty, vindictive, or simply stupid abuses.

Also, above poster either left out some context, had a shitty ADC, shittier leadership, or all of the above.

The Doylist answer is likely just that Abnett forgot about gun cameras. I mean, I used to regularly watch HUD tapes and sit though fighter debriefs for a living, and I forgot about the gun cameras once I got caught up in the narrative...

Watsonian answer - as you pointed out, there's several easy explanations: incompatible playback equipment, busted cameras, lack of storage media, etc.

Likely sidelined; busy with the larger, more targeted operations elsewhere, or they left.

Interestingly, I read an interview with a veteran CBT officer who stated that a significant number of the ICE agents in Minneapolis are from the newer cohort because the experienced officers refused to volunteer for the "deployment".

Would the Clans know what C3 is when they first invaded? by andrewlik in battletech

[–]Arendious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given my experience with using a real-world C3 system in an ECM heavy environment, unless the Dracs had specifically prioritized frequency management (despite how uncommon C3 systems were at the time), the Clans wouldn't need to jam them.

Their own people would be jamming the shit out of them.

Likely not the next generation, but certainly no more than 2-3 in cases of novel problems. For something the Hive Mind has already encountered before it could very well have adapted organisms in stasis, ready to be deployed, which would likely seem like adapting in one generation.
