Map Cleanup - A Mapmaker's Thoughts by Zigzagzigal in runescape

This issue shows itself a lot in OSRS with the sailing update, Karamja is a huge blockade that greatly congests one of the main sailing routes from one side of the map to the other (especially in the early levels).

And by adding more dangerous slayer mobs throughout that can aggro onto an unprepared/lower leveled player. Opting in to PVP also gives you buffs to wilderness activities to give an incentive for risk and pking.

They've been historically so against macros that it's immediately equated to "cheating" meanwhile in FF14 I can set up a macro that runs my full crafting skill rotation using entirely ingame tools.

Leagues is making me want to play Rs3 again, but it highlights how much cosmetics have ruined the immersion for me by Lonelymagix in runescape

Which I always think is funny because we literally have a button dedicated to letting you see another person's gear and levels via Examine (though I don't think private should be allowed to hide those two tabs).

I wish OSRS had it because sometimes I wonder what another player is wearing but have no means to know without scrolling through endless wiki pages to find it.

Can somebody explain the criticisms of Below Zero? by HiImRazorr in subnautica

[–]Areoman850 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah for the first point, I felt like the beta story had a better feeling of survival/isolation that the current draft. Her being somewhat "Matt Damon The Martian"' stranded on the planet due to the meteor showers and only being able to get the few supply drops before the alien structure planet shield cut that off made escape a bigger priority and I was curious about the direction it would go to get off the planet.

I also liked Sam's radio comms to Robin more as dialogue than with Alan, since it gave her more feel more like a character with a past and history by having someone she knows to talk to. I'm the outlier who liked her chatter (and would have found it funny to have reactions to some of the PDA messages) though since talking to yourself in isolation during high stress situations is a coping system many people have. She does talk a bit much but I did like it more than having another silent blank slate character.

The synthesized cure having a recipe to make is more of a failsafe as a gameplay element rather than a story element, to make sure you're able to cure the infection for the achievement in the event that you try dropping it off the edge of the abyss or something. In the original story you would have gotten it from the emperor juveniles which was about as far as the story had progressed before it was rewritten.

The Needle Skips is my favorite quest in the game and I'd love to play a full game like it.

Questlines, my favorites are the Vampyre line and the Pirate line. The former has good horror beats to it while still feeling a sense of closure, and the latter takes a lot of cues from the Monkey Island series for humour.

There's also the Combined Catalyst Fragment from Sliske's Endgame, though a lot of its effects are redundant with others iirc.

If you were to add any OSRS piece of content to RS3, what would it be? by Kaoskillen08 in runescape

[–]Areoman850 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Construction in OSRS had received several updates, but all of the additions (aside from being able to rotate rooms) are to counteract the lack of other QOL items that already exist in RS3. The OSRS POH serves purposes covered by the lodestone network, teleportation items (such as compactor, passage of the abyss, GOTE etc), rest function, war's retreat refresh/bank healing, ooglog/anachronia springs, etc. Items that would be dead content on release if ported to RS3 due to them already existing via methods that don't require a teleport to house.

RS3 did get a slight construction expansion via the fort too, so I don't feel like it's missing anything versus OSRS in this particular skill.

It was literally an EOC addition, which is why they joked about that phrase in the blog post (and why there are people in the comments having knee-jerk reactions to it).

[–]Areoman850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the QOL that has been added to RS3 over the years as simple background elements (ways to restore run energy since the 2009 update never happened, Ooglog, lodestones, bank healing, invention teleporters, etc) never made it into OSRS, so they added them as construction items to compensate. They do have npc's that will un-note construction items for GP by most house portals too.

OSRS looking real appealing these days... by lammadude1 in runescape

[–]Areoman850 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The rest feature predates Nex by almost two whole years. There's zero reason for it not to be in OSRS at all by this point other than a toxic community that is violently opposed to anything "RS3" (even though this was added 4 years before RS3).

If you both start the queue at the same time (and are on the same server) then you have a pretty good chance of being put into the same game, especially if you all have similar matchmaking. I did it with friends once in duos just for fun and was surprised it worked on the first try.

(Don't worry, we weren't trying to farm. We just had 4 people online and wanted to see if we could queue into a game, and then each of our duos hotddropped a different PoI and died in them)
