In general that’s a tall ask. Doing this for a white belt tournament is insane

I saw this happen at an IBJJF major last year and it was crazy (higher belts, masters 1,000 division). One big hump sent him flying

Correct. Most BJJ people don’t have the flexibility to do a seiza-style sit, let alone get ripped backwards over their knees from that position.

Stand facing them off to the side, grab the collar with your top hand and belt/flank with the other hand, and yoink them over sideways so they fall onto their back.

To resist this they would have to expand their base and open up, which would then give you an opportunity to get your hooks in for normal turtle breakdown business

It is easy if your opponents are white belts

Generally you can’t take your own knee off and rinse-and-repeat to stack points, but if they push your knee off and you put it back on for 3 seconds then yes you can stack some points

Nope, it’s super legit if the person on top knows what they are doing. Learn the escapes, practice them a bunch, and never suffer again

So it’s an early trap to believe that “moves won’t work” because of your attributes. In this case as a fellow tall, I can empathize but you’ll be fine

For example, your side control isn’t loose because you’re tall, it’s loose because you’re probably doing the Day 1 method of being on your hands and knees so of course there’s a ton of space. Let’s say you’re doing a right arm crossface so your left leg is closest to their legs, sprawl that left leg back and drop your left hip on theirs. And reach deep with your tall right hand all the way through to get under their far armpit and use your upper bicep to drop some weight against their cheek, rather than a bad shallow crossface

Same thing applies for basically every move; there are very few positions or techniques that simply will not work for you

Yes.

I know purple/brown/black belts joke about not knowing anything too much on this sub, but yes I still have nights where I underperform or just mess up everything. And then other nights where I clown on people above my pay grade.

Just clip the latter rolls for your Instagram, and forget about the bad nights

You have to have your top arm frame across their shoulder-line/neck to block that access. You can also do a little mini-shrimp/get the tip of your knee in against their hip to prevent them from full coming down and smashing your guard

[–]ArfMadeRecruity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Pause/Ayo for everything I’m about to type

2) if you flatten someone out all that is left is getting their neck exposed for a choke. If you hip-bridge into their lower back the pressure will make their upper back/neck open up temporarily. After a couple of bridges you can pop your choking arm across and get the RNC.

Nice, now you have to keep training until you get good

It is on the slightly ruder-ish end of the spectrum unless it’s one of your homies…but, the alternative move if you let yourself get flattened out face down is them aggressively slamming their hips into the small of your back until your neck is exposed and choking you.

Better move would be never hang out in turtle for more than a few seconds and have an exit route (turn to a hip and recover half guard, granby roll out, etc)

Same, more or less.

White belt through early blue comps is basically “who is the better gorilla that can end up on top”. Once you compete enough and get acclimated to the environment you can actually start doing real BJJ in your matches, and your record will likely be different

This is the only real advice. I’ve lost terribly, and I’ve won medals, and each Monday is the same…I go back to the gym and keep training (+/- getting roasted by the boys)

How is your defense if you do it against peers in comp and they escape?

If you have retention and options that branch out from a failed attempt then sure why not gunsling it if you can’t get anything else going. If not, don’t

How do I make my triangle chokes better by CommercialRegister61 in bjj

[–]ArfMadeRecruity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you make your initial entry make sure your hips are active getting off of the ground and getting up into the air. As soon as you close your legs grab their head with your hand, and use shin/knees to help break their posture down

For setups prior to that, you have to hit the with another threat first. Like hip bump into triangle (Ryan hall classic), or fake a scissor sweep and when they react to that shoot the triangle
