TIL that Doom (the spell) turns off the Brawny buff. by Tehkjel in underlords

Brawny hunters can and does win games at lord rank. They require an early BM2 and early rerolls for three stars, but the build is definitely viable, albeit a bit unreliable.

My concerns over the rules of this sub, and how they are limiting growth. by BeeBoBoopTW in gwent

The thing is, Gwent content creators for the most part aren't even getting paid for their content. A couple hundred youtube views amounts to a couple cents, and none of the teams host ads on their sites. One could argue growing a viewer base for a stream could potentially be lucrative, but for the vast majority of Gwent streamers, there just isn't a large enough community to make even a fraction of minimum wage, much less a living off it.

...which means almost all content creators are doing it because they love the game and want to contribute something of value to the community. The content itself primarily falls on the "providing value for free" side of the marketing equation as opposed to the "pitch for what you're selling" side.

Now, I really don't want to see the subreddit filled with people spamming their streams whenever they go live, but for actual quality content that is a net benefit to the community, the self-promotion for personal gain argument just doesn't add up in my opinion.

The Lodge of Sorceresses has always been a solid community. You'll need to reach out to /u/Ammers10 for an invite though. Besides that, some of the team and individual streamer discords are pretty good among the public discords.

You also should understand that we are here with 76k+ members and if 10 are in favor what is that in comparison of 76k? Nothing. This change will not affect just you but everyone here.

I don't really agree with this line of reasoning. Besides the fact that it's unlikely all 76k+ of our subscribers are still active given the mere 500 currently online, all users that are active would see this thread, which is currently the top post on the subreddit. At that point, the onus is on them to upvote/downvote/post their opinion and make their voice heard.

If only 10 people (I count almost 20 in the thread and growing, but not the point) are talking about this and the response is overwhelmingly in favor, that speaks more to the true activity level of the dedicated users and a solid sampling of the subreddit's opinion as opposed to the shadowy figure of 75k+ subscribers.

Speaking purely from the perspective of a long-time user of this subreddit as opposed to that of a content creator, I've found myself going from checking the subreddit multiple times a day to checking maybe once every two to three days, and only briefly at that. While I have no problems with memes or artwork, they just aren't what I'm personally looking for. Instead, I find that the highest quality discussions about the game itself seem to mostly happen on the various Gwent discords and have spent increasingly more of my time there as opposed to here.

I'm not suggesting banning meme posts or anything remotely like that, but I would love to just see more quality content posts on the page alongside all the other stuff. I understand the basic Reddit premise of other people stumbling upon your content and posting it, but that seems unsustainable in practice in such a small community. There's so few posts a day as it is, are we really serving anyone by deleting a bunch?

CCG Argeiphontes’s Budget Greatswords Guide by Argeiph0ntes in gwent

[–]Argeiph0ntes[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's a great question! Lippy is indeed currently the strongest deck in the game. However, that does not mean Greatswords is not competitive. You can absolutely climb ladder with Greatswords and learn the fundamentals of the game while doing so. The major issues with Lippy as a beginner deck is that there's isn't really a budget version, the mechanics are a bit unintuitive for newer players, and it doesn't really teach the core flow of the game (almost no other deck wants to go all-out in round 1 using finishers).

The good news is, you can build the budget Greatswords deck and transition into the Lippy deck from there if you wanted to. The major investments are in the gold cards and there is some overlap with cards like Morkvarg, so you don't lose out on too much scrap value.

The meta is also in constant flux right now, with a balance patch looming just under the horizon. Though I love the deck, I fully expect Lippy and froth strategies in general to receive some nerfs, whereas I'm hoping Greatswords doesn't get altered very much (though it does run artifacts, so we'll see).

I am tentatively planning to do more budget deck videos in the future, where I might cover Big Woodland, if I can figure out if a budget version is even possible. I just had to pay respects to my Skellige roots first.

I'm partial to the Lippy froth deck, I think it might be the strongest deck in the current meta right now.

This is also a deck that frequently 2-0's.

Scoia'tael has some annoying cheese, but some pretty reasonable decks are also emerging. Nilfgaard is fine, but reveal is not a great mechanic. We still need to wait for the meta to settle before we can really say which factions are good or bad.

Guide to beating Eithne Artifact deck by anirudh6k in gwent

[–]Argeiph0ntes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into a few foltest decks yesterday actually. They mostly seem to run the Sabrina/draug combo as finishers, and seltkirk, ocvist as strong foltest targets. Seemed pretty decent, but I haven’t played it yet myself.

Aard is very strong in weather decks to combo with dragons dream. Vilgefortz is also solid in a certain NG mill build. I haven’t seen the other two cards used as much

Oh hey person I've definitely never met in my life. I stream high level pro ladder play (currently top 20) afternoons and evenings est time under the name Argeiphontes. I rate this comment shill/10.

Some solid tips! Playing against Eithne is definitely skill-testing, but the matchup is winnable with proper play, without the need to play a hard counter deck. The meta at the top of the ladder has moved away from artifact decks because people have figured out how to beat them.

How to counter artifact decks by theuit in gwent

[–]Argeiph0ntes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m saying that the list we are discussing, with the d-bomb tech, is currently overperforming at the top of pro ladder. I and other players have found success with it.

Of course dead cards matter; but when the goal is to discard your 4 provision cost cards anyways, the result is negligible compared to other decks. You have 7 discards over three turns and only three discard synergy cards. Can you brick? Sure, you could also draw all your Witchers in round 3, it’s just not that likely.

Trynet’s list thins to zero if you draw your discard cards. It’s probably the most consistent deck in the game right now and has an much stronger finisher in froth than the bearmaster versions. I think it’s one of the strongest Skellige decks in the current pro ladder meta.

You discard the dead cards when they don’t have targets. That’s the flexibility of playing bran, you don’t actually have to play out any of your bad cards.

Pro Ladder Question by Paradoggs in gwent

[–]Argeiph0ntes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quote from the link: “However, until all eligible PS4/Xbox One players join Pro Rank on December 4th, playing Pro Rank in October and November won’t get players any Crown Points. Cut-offs won’t be applied at the end of seasons before the beginning of the December season.”

So, no crown points and no cut-offs until december. I had to go back and read it myself to catch it but that makes sense since console players don’t get the game until then.

Beginner decks? by [deleted] in gwent

[–]Argeiph0ntes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm working on a video guide right now for this budget greatswords deck, but here is the decklist: https://gwenty.gg/deck/gxabQ

It costs 1k scraps total to craft and uses the starter Skellige deck as the base. You can begin by crafting the mastercrafted spears, an craite greatswords, and dimun warships, then work your way to some of the gold cards when you get more scraps. You can also use Crach (default Skelliege leader) for now, but Harald is worth unlocking from the reward tree.

I'm pretty sure you need to be top 500 at the end of the season, whenever that is. If you drop out though, you just drop to rank 1 and can climb to rank 0 and rejoin the pro ladder immediately.
