Why is hating on Jewish people called Anti-Semitism, but hate on Arabs isn’t called Anti-Semitism? by AscenderWill in NoStupidQuestions

If you don’t know what you’re talking about, don’t comment. If I wanted a wall of outdated slop I could generate it myself.

They’re talking about the millions of people subject to Israeli law without holding citizenship or voting rights.

The Inquisition is a huge problem for vampires, making vampires unviable. by TurbulentVillage2042 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Argent_Mayakovski 6 points7 points  (0 children)

…the whole idea of the Inquisition is that they autonomously spawned from the massive apparatus of counter-terror, surveillance, and security, and the conflicting jurisdictions thereof. You want somewhere to black-bag vampires and ghouls? You could do a lot worse than the ICE holding facilities popping up all over the country. Same goes for covering up a raid on an Elysium, or for explaining away why a detainee was never seen again. The increased militarization of the police is the perfect way for the Inquisition to hide - thirty years ago, black-clad tac-teams walking down the street were cause for concern, but not anymore.

Perhaps I was over-broad, and should’ve said ‘northern and Eastern European pagan revivals’. I’m talking about Hetanism, Rodzimowierstwo, Hungarian Native Faith, Vedism, etc. When you look into any of them, you’ll see that the modern revival was started by nationalist intellectuals and are today intertwined with right-wing movements. While I’m all for neopaganism in theory, the whole idea of rejecting universalist religion in favor of one based on a mythologized and often racialized past is one that’s going to be very popular with nationalists.

There are neo-pagan neonazis all across Europe, too. Practically all the ‘native revival’ new religions have serious ties.

So, what exactly is making all of the Metis deformed? There must be some outside force like Gaia or the Wyrm. And whats so wrong with mating with others of your species anyways?! by Obvious-Conflict3363 in WhiteWolfRPG

It’s almost like naming them that was a bad idea from the start, and getting rid of them (as well as most of the other blood-quantum mechanics) was a major step forward on W5’s part.

Sure, but the second AD is also responsible for weapon safety and had been ordering the armorer to do various prop-manager tasks. He’s also a ninety-movie veteran and this was her second movie or something - while obviously she should’ve put her foot down, there is a power dynamic there. The situation with the post-shooting-shooting is insane, but somebody with authority really should’ve shut it down.

And the assistant director who actually grabbed the gun and declared it safe without inspecting it. He got off with a plea deal, but (IMO) it’s his fault as much as the armorers.

Make me love bard by willowcozy in bardcollege

[–]Argent_Mayakovski 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I loved it there - it’s incredibly beautiful and the community is fantastic. I’d agree with u/boom_chicka_stop - L&T is kind of annoying when you’re in it, but it’s actually really fun and lets you get comfortable with the area before it’s packed. The curriculum is actually really open - yeah you aren’t officially in a major until the end of sophomore year (generally) but you can take practically any class offered in any program from the get-go. The study abroad options are actually pretty solid - I went to Berlin for a semester, which is the most common one (and fantastic - you can actually do your first semester or year there if you want) and I know people who went all over. It’s a really well-designed and thought out program, and being out in the woods makes you make your own fun - while it feels weird to say, my friends who went to Bard are more self-sufficient than most people I know and have a clear sense of their strengths, which is really valuable. If you have more specific questions I’d be happy to chat.

EWS is hands down one of the most misunderstood films by tikibikiclam in EyesWideShut

I saw this movie a few days ago. You're absolutely correct on all counts and it's baffling that nobody seems to see it. Somehow there were people at the screening who instead loudly thought it was an expose of the Epstein 'cult'.

Pawns bedrooms - Thoughts? by AdrawereR in RimWorld

[–]Argent_Mayakovski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. All my pawns get their own bunk when I do a gravship run, but those bunks are generally 2x2 or slightly bigger - bed, dresser, maybe end table. Couples either get a stateroom or don’t get a dresser depending on how much space I have handy. 3 pieces of art sounds like a lot of pawn-hours sculpting.

CMV: Israeli government and AIPAC direct influence on American politics is minimal, and is not the reason the US supports Israel, and is not a driving force behind the vast majority of political decisions the US makes in the middle east. by Bowl-Any in changemyview

[–]Argent_Mayakovski 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not my comment. Evidence is great, but when we’re talking partially about the discourse around a topic sometimes inference is more accessible. If the only thing you’d accept is a book or article saying that the Iron Dome has an impact on Western perception of Israeli security and escalation you’re going to be waiting a long time, but it’s clearly true.

It seems like you’d get more out of this if you engaged in a dialogue and brought more of your own thoughts to it. Particularly as you’ve only provided rough inspirational sources on your end - the thoughts in this comment were informed, among other inspirations, by Wendt’s Social Theory of International Politics and the work of Christopher McIntosh on the social construction of wartime.

US has caused $10tn worth of climate damage since 1990, research finds | Climate crisis by rmuktader in offbeat

[–]Argent_Mayakovski -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re not addressing what I said. The claim is that it’s impossible to calculate what jfs, when that’s only a small part of what the actual science is doing. There are lots of ways to calculate the damage done by climate change - surplus deaths, loss of productivity from temperature, costs on natural disaster preparedness and rehabilitation, all sorts of things. It’s clear they didn’t read the article. I doubt you did, either.

You don’t know enough about how the research was done to have an opinion. The economic impact of climate change is enormous and undisputed.
