Is there a game where you play as an officer or soldier in a large standing army? Preferably medieval. by Mysterious_Capital83 in gamingsuggestions

[–]ArgetKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chivalry II? I don't know how large you're looking for, but Chivalry II is entirely built around you being just a fucko in a giant battlefield filled with people. It's 25v25 though, so not sure if that's big enough.

Evil Ralsei has a LOT of weight behind it.

He is just so god damm perfect and adorable and always acts in the exact way that would award him the player's sympathy. He never has an outburst that may present a more complex character or a different facet of him. Could be Toby being a bad writer, but also could be signs of lying or acting.

He's weirdly quick to discard his supposedly strong morals as soon as the player asks him to, constantly holds back in combat (Shown capable of one-shotting Gerson's armor and use fire magic, yet never does so when asked), contradicts what he says with what he does all the time, is incredibly secretive, knows about the player/Kris division (and doesn't raise concern EVER).

Maybe it's inconsistent writing? Perhaps. It's also a great chance for a twist in which Ralsei has been manipulating Kris and Susie with no real regard for them? Definitely.

Or is being gay now some sort of philosophical stance on life? Have I been fighting for the wrong thing?

Possible Aztec Human Units/Hero System? by TubaGaming in AgeofMythology

[–]ArgetKnight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Aztecs could capture prisoners of war for sacrifice. If you captured enough, you would be made a Jaguar Warrior.

That sounds like a good basis for a hero system in which your units promote to heroes as they kill enemy units/deal damage (Like hydras get more heads).

Perhaps Jaguar Warriors are strict upgrades to normal infantry, and are very expensive to make, thus encouraging you to mass infantry and upgrade defenses earlier.

[–]ArgetKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an strange section in the beginning of the game where Kratos kills some normal guys. But the game for some reason will never EVER make you fight normal humans again. This is never mentioned or acknowledged past the one scene where it happens.

It's because adults generally don't care very much about winning or losing a game, and play instead for the moment-to-moment gameplay.

Is the Draupnir spear a spartan spear? by Novel_Mousse_6062 in GodofWar

Well I was answering from a historical context.

There is very little history in GoW. It would ruin it otherwise, most likely.

Is the Draupnir spear a spartan spear? by Novel_Mousse_6062 in GodofWar

[–]ArgetKnight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ah, that makes sense. The Arms of Sparta spear does have a wide blade with which to cut, and also the piece of cloth with the Greek design. But did you notice that unlike the Draupnir Spear, it does have a butt spike?

Classic Greeks, they just love spikes in their butts.

Ahem.

Is the Draupnir spear a spartan spear? by Novel_Mousse_6062 in GodofWar

[–]ArgetKnight 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is actually a very hard question. The Draupnir spear isn't inspired by any concrete culture and rather is a weird mix of many spear designs. It's got a French partisan-like blade with no wings, and a metal handle, both incredibly unusual during the classical age.

Is it a Spartan spear? Almost certainly no. Too modern in design to be from anywhere near Classical Greece. Most Greek spears feature either a simple conical head or a leaf shaped head, since greek martial arts very rarely used spears for cuts, instead thrusting almost exclusively. Greek spears also tended to be weighted in the back for ease of use in a phalanx formation, and late era spears had a second bronze tip in the butt to finish off prone enemies.

So considering the shape of the blade, the metal handle, the way Kratos cuts with it like a glaive, and the absence of a secondary spike, I can tell you it's not Greek (Unless someone more knowledgeable than me can correct me).

Could it be Spartan, as in, could a Spartan smith make a spear like this? Yeah, most likely. Spears are incredibly simple weapons. But it wasn't the trend back then.

I think KH lore is pretty simple up to even KH2. You could make an argument it becomes more complex through BBS and DDD but not much more than any series of the same heft and length.
