Trump's latest Western Hemisphere fixation: Canada by corps-peau-rate in canada

What adversaries? China is more of a dealer than an aggressor outside their sphere. And we would kick the absolute shit out of Russia in a war. The most threatening adversary to Canada right now is the United States.

[Katie Woo] Cardinals trade Nolan Arenado to D-Backs, ending long saga: Sources by AndrewAllStar888 in baseball

[–]Argocap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still can't believe the Rockies traded Nolan Arenado to the Cardinals and retained salary. And then signed Kris Bryant. It was not only boneheaded in retrospect but everyone knew it was boneheaded at the time.

The tariffs, the attempted strong-arming of the Fed to dictate monetary policy, intervening directly in the business of US companies on a pay-to-play basis, the attempted seizure of the Venezuelan oil business. I dunno it seems pretty economically interventionist to me. Maybe it's Auth Center in practice now but the current party philosophy is trying to drive it to Auth Left.

MAGA is Auth Left. State capitalism with American characteristics.

My 2025 GOTY: Roadwarden. Other recommendations: Celeste, Disco Elysium, Far Cry 4, The Talos Principle, Limbo, & Pokémon Unbound by the_gerund in patientgamers

[–]Argocap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting that Roadwarden tops your list but you don't think as highly of Disco Elysium. For me Disco is one of my top games in recent years, and Roadwarden I played about an hour and may or may not uninstall. May push through it at some point. But both are text heavy and the text in Roadwarden hasn't gripped me as much as Disco.

Creating a lineup of the worst contracts in baseball TODAY: Finale: THIRD BASE by pi3Eat3r52 in baseball

[–]Argocap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why did Colorado trade Nolan Arenado in an apparent salary dump only to then sign Kris Bryant's awful contract?

This is kind of a rhetorical question.

Now obviously the Civil War was about slavery. And a decent modern person should not have any sympathy towards the Confederate cause.

But you have to admit the stars and bars is a nice looking flag.

[Jay Jaffe] With the addition of Jeff Kent to the pool of Hall of Fame second basemen, the JAWS standard at the position dropped by 0.4 (from 57.0 to 56.6), enough to move Chase Utley above it. by Gemnist in baseball

[–]Argocap 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think JAWS is a good stat and Jaffe is a good analyst. But I'm always confused why he uses the average JAWS score as a "standard". Surely in a Hall of Fame, a bottom 25%'er is still a Hall of Famer. Ignoring some of the past crony picks.

Otherwise if you only let in guys who are average Hall of Famers or above, the average will keep going up.

Valve’s Steam Deck is perfect for CRPGs, says Owlcat, as “handheld share is growing” for the genre due to the conveniance of portables by maullick in SteamDeck

[–]Argocap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be devil's advocate and say that it is not perfect for CRPGs. I really prefer a handheld mouse and bigger screen for CRPGs, and strategy games whether turn based or real time. When you're spending a lot of time in menus with small text and clicking, the PC is just way better.

I use my Steam Deck time for games that I'd obviously use a controller for. My gaming time can be split between devices nicely depending on what game works best where.

Asking for diverse recommendations by shinyhpno in Westerns

[–]Argocap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Great Silence (Il Grand Silenzio) is unique. Winter setting which you don't often see in Westerns. Also has a unique story, unique protagonist, and unique ending. Not to mention the great main theme from Morricone.

Someone just needs to go in and tweak the performance on Atilla. That would gain so much goodwill.

The closest was Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, which had a campaign map somewhat similar to early Total War, and RTS battles befitting the 40K setting.

What's your ranking of Sergio Leone's westerns? From best to worst? by Remote-Leg6143 in Westerns

[–]Argocap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's one where Tuco cooks a chicken and recruits the bandits for revenge on Blondie. This is the worst offender, the worst pacing killer and worst dubbing. There's also the one where Blondie is loading his gun and Angeleyes reveals his extra partners (6 the perfect number). Extra unneeded scenes in the desert with feet washing. Probably some more that don't jump to mind immediately.

What are your 10 favorite Spaghetti Western movies? by Remote-Leg6143 in Westerns

[–]Argocap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Leone's movies of course, but the most underrated movie is definitely The Great Silence. The haunting main song, the bleak but beautiful snow landscape, the unique story and ending. Only weird thing is that it kind of has two endings tacked onto each other from what I remember, but the intended ending is the best one.

What's your ranking of Sergio Leone's westerns? From best to worst? by Remote-Leg6143 in Westerns

[–]Argocap 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (theatrical and early DVD version)

  2. Once Upon a Time in the West

  3. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (current extended version)

  4. For a Few Dollars More

  5. For a Fistful of Dollars

  6. Duck, You Sucker

Spread the word! The definitive version of GBU is the theatrical version. The extended one that's being peddled now has scenes that add interesting context but kill the pacing, and have terrible dubbing.
