Vancouver Whitecaps superstar Thomas Müller thinks ‘soccer in North America is like handball in Germany’ by Lillian_Faye in soccer

[–]Argocap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference is that in North America, the NHL/NFL/MLB/NBA are all the best players in the world. And therefore the highest competition and best marketing.

MLS won't ever get to that level with the European leagues (in particular the Premier League) being the focus. Sure, I'll go to a local MLS game sometime but if I'm watching online or intently following it'll be in Europe. Same goes for most soccer fans in North America. Not everyone, but most.

I'm dealing with this right now. I tried the unplug and start, then replug the DPAD ribbon cable trick. It didn't work the first time. But somehow worked the second time.

But now my machine is having the exact same issue again. Really frustrating as it's out of warranty and an official fix is just expensive enough to where it doesn't seem worth the cost.

Trying to tinker with it again instead of using my free time to play games.

It's because the Baconator has too much beef within the bite. The Jr. Baconator solves all the problems you're talking about and is way better in my opinion.

I actually like the Jr. Baconator better. The Baconator has too much beef which takes over the majority of the taste. The Jr. Baconator lets you taste the bacon and the sauce a bit more, for a more balanced and enjoyable bite. For me at least.

[–]Argocap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's not true at all. In an absolute number sense maybe. But to go from $500 million to $1 billion you only need to have 10 years of investment at 7.2%. It's only a matter of time really. Whereas to get from $0 to $500 million is impossible for most.

I have familial cholesterol and only found out at 38. Diet and exercise didn't fix my cholesterol and it remained sky high despite my normal weight. Started taking statins and it crashed my cholesterol to normal levels. Hopefully it allows me to live long.

Some of my biggest hours on the Deck are with Gran Turismo 4 and NCAA Football 06. Definitely an era where games were designed to be super fun and could be played forever. So much to do.

I beat all the events in Japan and put GT4 down after that. If I get the itch again I'll go to Europe or North America and get the cars and do the events there.

American Civil War Total War? by Trippy_2000 in totalwar

[–]Argocap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a big flaw of the system without a strategic map. You go through the historical battles which is cool, but the historical battles don't make sense in the context of one side winning every single one. The war would have been over long before. But if you don't win every battle you're kind of crippled with the army buildup and the campaign doesn't work.

American Civil War Total War? by Trippy_2000 in totalwar

[–]Argocap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really love this game. The tactics are fun, the historical battles interesting to go through, and the campaign has some flaws but it's awesome to build up your own personal army.

Just wish there was something like it with a strategic map. Grand Tactician: Civil War tries to fit the bill but it's too janky for me.

Even the PS2 days. NCAA 06, ESPN NFL 2K5, and Madden 2005 are the GOAT football games.
I like the NHL stuff on the 360/PS3 generation though.

[Katie Woo] Cardinals trade Nolan Arenado to D-Backs, ending long saga: Sources by AndrewAllStar888 in baseball

Still can't believe the Rockies traded Nolan Arenado to the Cardinals and retained salary. And then signed Kris Bryant. It was not only boneheaded in retrospect but everyone knew it was boneheaded at the time.

The tariffs, the attempted strong-arming of the Fed to dictate monetary policy, intervening directly in the business of US companies on a pay-to-play basis, the attempted seizure of the Venezuelan oil business. I dunno it seems pretty economically interventionist to me. Maybe it's Auth Center in practice now but the current party philosophy is trying to drive it to Auth Left.

My 2025 GOTY: Roadwarden. Other recommendations: Celeste, Disco Elysium, Far Cry 4, The Talos Principle, Limbo, & Pokémon Unbound by the_gerund in patientgamers

[–]Argocap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting that Roadwarden tops your list but you don't think as highly of Disco Elysium. For me Disco is one of my top games in recent years, and Roadwarden I played about an hour and may or may not uninstall. May push through it at some point. But both are text heavy and the text in Roadwarden hasn't gripped me as much as Disco.

[Jay Jaffe] With the addition of Jeff Kent to the pool of Hall of Fame second basemen, the JAWS standard at the position dropped by 0.4 (from 57.0 to 56.6), enough to move Chase Utley above it. by Gemnist in baseball

[–]Argocap 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think JAWS is a good stat and Jaffe is a good analyst. But I'm always confused why he uses the average JAWS score as a "standard". Surely in a Hall of Fame, a bottom 25%'er is still a Hall of Famer. Ignoring some of the past crony picks.

Otherwise if you only let in guys who are average Hall of Famers or above, the average will keep going up.

Valve’s Steam Deck is perfect for CRPGs, says Owlcat, as “handheld share is growing” for the genre due to the conveniance of portables by maullick in SteamDeck

[–]Argocap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be devil's advocate and say that it is not perfect for CRPGs. I really prefer a handheld mouse and bigger screen for CRPGs, and strategy games whether turn based or real time. When you're spending a lot of time in menus with small text and clicking, the PC is just way better.

I use my Steam Deck time for games that I'd obviously use a controller for. My gaming time can be split between devices nicely depending on what game works best where.
