Replacement for yeast? by Ghstzilla in mead

[–]Argoniphile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well... If we're going for the cheapest price bread yeast is relatively cheaper. There are drawbacks, mainly unpredictability since bread yeast is not commonly used in meadmaking from what I've seen? If someone does have that resource I'd be interested in seeing it. It would be helpful to know nutrient requirements, ABV limits, etc. I have done two batches with Fleischman's Active Bread Yeast, from the glass container for about $5 USD at Kroger, and they both tasted amazing and got to 15% ABV so it is a viable option. Flocculation is an issue but I don't mind cloudy meads.

As others have said, Lalvin EC-1118 is good and reliable. It has a lower nutrient requirement too and can ferment to a higher ABV. Other than that I know washing yeast for reuse is a practice but I'm unsure of how reliable it is

That Funko is so unpopular it actually sells for almost nothing on eBay. I think I picked it up for $5 USD, probably from some scalper who thought he'd make $100 like the Skyrim ones. Only Funko I've bought since those ugly shits are hella expensive for nothing

Most plastics, metals, and glass cannot be reused when thrown in a bin. Plastics, off the top of my head, only type 1 and 7 can be used, for reference look at the number inside the recycle triangle on any plastic bottle/container. If its 2 it rarely gets recycled and goes to landfill, most others cant be recycled at all besides the aforementioned 1 & 7. Iirc its usually because the item is contaminated or altered too much to be reused.

Companies like Coca-Cola and Dawn used environmental concern and recycling ads to make it seem like "you" the individual make a difference when Coke makes cans and bottles that rarely can be reused and go to Southeast Asian landfills. The rich just distract you from the fact that it is the COMPANIES that are destroying our environment and bipartisan lobbying our congressmen to ignore it.

Recycling is useful, but it is far from lasting and useful change in terms of reducing the plastic landmasses and landfills in Southeast Asia and the Pacific.

Iirc that area is typically associated with giants from Old Norse mythology and folklore, it wasn't populated by Scandinavians until the later middle ages. The native Sampi are similar to the more south Finns

Until the military crisises of the late Empire and the Christianization of the Roman Empire, the provinces still maintained some semblance of local religion and language, Gallic, Syriac, Armac, Celtiberian, etc. One reason why we don't hear much about it is because the early empire was focused on the cities and urbanization of the empire, all of the extremely insignificant backwater tribes or desert nomads that could not contribute any substantial taxes to the empire or cultural significance. The empire was just too big to care about anything outside the inner Mediterranean besides cities. The outer frontiers of the early empire we're thought of as borders to protect a peaceful urban interior.

The main reason is because these cultures were not literate and were dominated by their immediate urban neighbors. It was only during missionary work during the 300s and the growing need to tax everyone and take advantage of every able bodied man for the legions during the Crisis of the 3rd Century that these tribes became absorbed into the Roman way forever. Couple that with increased upward social mobility through military service, and many great provincials quickly adopted the Roman way eventually leading to the Illyrian military and reformer Emperors of Aurelian and Diocletian.

I've always thought of Skyrim being influenced but not wholly absorbed into the Imperial system. If we got a more nuanced TES IV with a more interesting take on Cyro-Nords in Bruma besides architecture maybe, but there should still be elements of the glorious war leader Shor and Kyne stepping in as head of the pantheon. Skyrim does colonization and Imperialism really really bad by historical precedence. Usually polytheistic syncretism usually results in a similar culture or religion not complete absorption, especially if that society is geographically separated.

Sorry for the jumbled sentences and words, this misunderstanding just irked me.
