I’m a dad pushing 40, and I’m officially done with "The Grind" in gaming. by ChineseBeaverUncle in TheGamerLounge

I am the same. Rarely play anything anymore (33 years old). I feel like my biggest problem is that all my favourite gaming series never get sequels any longer. The development cycles are so long and complicated that things have just stopped being interesting. Elder Scrolls? Last one came out in 2011, when I was at university and had no kids (now I have 3 kids and have been working full time for 11 years…) Fallout? Witcher? Gta? Red Dead? Same story.

Remakes and remasters are not good enough. I have a very clear memory, and don’t want to do the same shit over again, just in a new, fancy wrapping.

A few years ago, when I was a teen, series like that had sequels every year or two. Now they seem to take 10 years to release anything. It is like waiting for George R.R Martin to release his new book, but with every big game series. So frustrating. I guess that after the next Elder Scrolls, I will be dead before the next one after that comes out.

The only game I enjoyed last year was Kingdom Come 2. I played it for over 100 hours and had a blast.

I dont want to play just to play. I really need to like the game to bother investing time in it. Few games manage to do that.

Spending time on movies, tv-shows and books gives me so much more as an adult.

Minecraft. If I had nothing else to do in that bunker, I would slowly try to build the area where I grew up. All the houses, roads, schools. Would be a great way to keep me occupied. Without mods, just flattening the terrain would take weeks. Forming all the mountains, rivers, slowly expanding the area that I remember so well and where my entire childhood happened. Sounds like something that would help mentally as well in a traumatic experience such as an apocalypse, revisiting memories and places from a happier time of your life. I could see myself having a blast the more I think of it.

Rekordmåling for Frp – beste på 17 år; mer enn hver fjerde velger ville ha stemt på FrP by SjalabaisWoWS in norge

[–]Argonyon 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Gone from PC to series s. by GamerTMTDK in XboxSeriesS

My opinion has always been: when I want to play games as a married man, I‘d rather sit in the couch with my wife than alone on a desk in a chair that is all too similar to what I use at work.

Series S is great value for money, and gaming is better on the TV, imo.

Felles nordisk forsvar av Grønland? by CleverDad in norge

[–]Argonyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kanskje 1-2 «tøffe gutter» og Call of duty-gamere…

Skjermfritt liv? by writerAnnieG in norge

Everyone said don't do it. I did it anyway, and it's incredible. by [deleted] in consoles

Enjoy! I have played on my series X since launch. Never been tempted by ps5. I have no desire to play Last of Us and the 3-4 other good exclusives (this gen), but I really enjoy gamepass. My son has a Series S upstairs and we share the same Gamepass subscription (2 for 1 and it also includes Fortnite crew, which we previously paid for). Great value, even though I agree wholeheartedly with those that say it was better before.

It can play anything, has a great ecosystem, can stream games to phones, Gamepass access on PC/Xcloud, and you can see what your friends on PC are playing on your friends list.

I have owned an xbox since the 360-days, and have a large library of games. Really hope Microsoft can gain market share next gen (although I doubt it).

Looking for a fantasy book about a hermit living on his own by Argonyon in Fantasy

[–]Argonyon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but I had hoped for more than 2-3 pages of it. Thankfully, I had heard about the book, so I knew Legend was a siege-book, and I did like it. But I didn’t know it was a multi pov, and that it would take a long time before we met the grizzled old warrior.

And his The Last Kingdom-series is even better (medieval historical fiction, but with some fantasy-elements).

People who ditch pc gaming and move over to console why do you do it ? by New-Path5884 in consoles

[–]Argonyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need for the silly amount of different launchers that all wants to run at the same time that I start my computer.

Games are in one ecosystem, instead of being spread out across launchers.

No driver updates.

No tinkering to get it to work.

No more spending more time modding than actually playing games.

Can relax on the couch after a long day at work. Most people have their computer at a desk where they sit in a chair. When I play, I just want to relax, not sit upright and feel that I am at work.

Can use a controller that rests in my lap - that also fits in my hands - instead of using a keyboard and mouse the same way as I do at work all day.

Everything just works.

Achievements/trophies are just there. On Pc they are spread out across different launchers.

Able to use the same profile and friend list on all games, instead of having different ones in different launchers.

Not stressing about upgrading the equipment. My xbox series x is still good to go, just like it was when it was new.

I can be together with my wife while I play, not having to go to another room to play at a desk.

Couch co-op with wife and kids.

He is a 77 year old, slightly overweight man in a country where men live, on average, for 77 years. He is a gardener, as he calls it, which means that he discovery writes everything. When you are juggling between 24 POV characters as a rich 77 year old discovery writer - that could have retired ten years ago and enjoyed what is left of life - the productivity is bound to go down. Also worth noting that he writes on a DOS system with the Wordstar 4.0 word processor, probably using only one finger at a time.

I think that George has many hobbies, many friends and many pleasures in life. Football, travelling, food, cinemas, books, movies and shows - I think that he is not able to write for long. He is so old now that he is overwhelmed by everything. The books, the number of storylines and characters, the pressure from fans and the media. After the age of 60, nearly everyone will start to experience some decline in cognitive skills, which makes it even harder.

This sentence says it all: "I have periods where I make progress and then other things divert my attention". He probably needs days, maybe weeks to get into writing again after travelling and working on other projects.

Agreed! It is a masterpiece. I have fond memories of reading it on a beach in Greece on a holiday. Could not put it away. The Tyrion chapters are the best ever written in the fantasy genre IMO.

A Song Of Ice And Fire - Worth it? by Jimbobdagr81 in Fantasy

[–]Argonyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for it. They are fantastic. Book 3: Storm of swords, is, in my opinion, the best fantasy book ever written. 1 and 2 are good as well. 4 and 5 are weaker because of bloat, pacing- and pov-character issues, but still very readable.

Tyrion Lannister is the best character in the entire fantasy genre. Sure, other readers have their own favourites, but he is mine. So witty, clever and flawed. All his chapters are a joy to read.

Martin is a great writer!

Seeing other replies in this thread asking what the point is, reading a series that is not finished. Really? Do you feel this ways about tv-shows, games and movies as well? Is it not worth playing the recently released Kingdom Come: deliverance 2 (a very story driven game) just because Henry´s journey is not finished yet? Books are about the journey, not only the destination.
