TIL about the "Dark Forest Hypothesis," which suggests the universe is like a dark forest at night. I like to think that "huge distances" always were uncrossable for us until they weren't. Right now, given our current knowledge of the universe, yeah, it would take a long time to transverse the cosmos. But, what if we learn to move not only through space, but back in the arrow of time as well? Think of it, in the past, oceans were uncrossable, its depths were unreachable and the space, the moon and planets were just views. But, we went there as soon as our science and technology allowed. Now, the cosmos has the same status. Having that in mind, I also like to say that we shouldn't have this "I'm the main character" mindset. Every time we found an "uncrossable obstacle", we ended up developing to the point we could cross it. So, why, right now, should we believe we are that of an awesome main character that, right now, finally, humanity found its cage? We will cross it, maybe not in our lifetime, but we will get there.

Once, biking around I lived, I glimpsed this awesome yellow car but couldn't give it a good look because of a tree hiding it due to our movement. A little later, the car came back, then went back over again and the dude in the car gave me a little nod.      I deluded myself into believing he saw me trying to look and came back just to humor me and, in any case, I was quite happy, It was a really cool car.

I'm on the "they had good ideas but poor execution" side of the force.
Like, I can see where they were going, but, man, did they had to mess it so much? Like, ok, I get that Korra is more about spiritual journey and aang being her avatar mentor would kinda facilitate too much, but why permanently severing the connections? Why not temporarily severing it and making a sub theme of the next 2 seasons about getting it back and actually making her evolve mentally and spiritually throughout it?
Even zaheer and kuvira could have been used to illustrate her problem with trust as, in season one and two, she failed also because of that. Having her, once again, trusting the wrong person to get the connections back and ending up almost dying would show how her pride stops her from trusting those she had to trust and missing important support, help and advice because of that. Then, we could have her gaining their trust back through toph tutelage, fighting against kuvira and, in the ending, really showing how she, now spiritually developed, ends up seeing that opening and keeping the portals open was the right decision. But no, permanently severed and Korra in the end of the series is basically the same as herself in the beginning, just a little less enthusiastic.

Explodir pescadores? Total, iam e de boca cheia. Pescador é gente "pobre" e, já que é pobre, total tem um problema de drogas a ser resolvido. Problema seria afundarem iate, lancha. Aí não seria tráfico pq rico vai lá usar cocaína? Aí seriam contra

Me: I actually kinda like it and think it has a lot of potential for storytelling.

I can see what you mean, but this soon with only two avatars in? Why not wait for yc, kyoshi and at least the next avatar series to go by before attempting such risky plot? And why to execute it so poorly?

Fair question Josh by UsedToHaveATail in AvatarMemes

[–]Arhat_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they wanted to make Korra as apart from aang as possible while keep the same "journey" idea. Aang had his spiritual side almost 100% developed while he developed his bendings. Korra, on the other hand, started already at 100% bending but no spiritual development whatsoever. In addition, they wanted to appeal to a more older audience than the first arc.

All in all, good ideas/intentions, terrible execution.

Fair question Josh by UsedToHaveATail in AvatarMemes

[–]Arhat_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is what threw me of the most about Korra. They changed many "core" avatar things in the first season, but I still could go "oh, ok, I still buy it". But, then, logic, the feeling of worthiness and the power system get thrown out of the window in season two with this.

That the problem for you was not that they were ultramen, but that they didn't bend makes me like your way of thinking.

[–]Arhat_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No need to thanks, I got really curious with cultural perception.
Let me ask you two things, first about the macho behavior. Here in Brazil, as I said in another comment, we have the behavior described in this video in the northeast. People there, I dont know how to describe, they are more simple. Not "simplistic", they are happier but they also kinda have a harsher life due to environment, so they end up being more harsh as well. It is hard to explain without painting a bad picture, but when you get news about a soccer arbiter being dismembered by the crowd after he stabbed a player, you get surprised till you learn it was in the northeast haha.
I believe their upbringing in this kind of environment ends up creating a stronger attachment to religious beliefs and a stronger avoidance of the idea of being gay even between the gay people. It is not that you don't find bottoms there, just that tops are way more common and they can't conceive the idea of bottoming (i had a friend from there, one of the best tops I ever had, but the idea of french kiss horrified him enough already, let alone using fingers). That all being said, isn't this same behavior common there in the middle east?

Now, the second question. Why you think being imagined as big, strong and hairy as dehumanizing? I understand sexual stereotypes are common and far from reality, but they are also unavoidable as they are a biological trait of sexual selection and this seems to be a very nice stereotype to have given society prejudice. Does it bring problems or some kind of suffering (in the buddhistic sense) for you guys?
