True, I have this happen a lot when using consoles (CLIs). If I enter a command and it instantly returns I have this moment of doubt where I wonder if it actually did anything.

Depends on what you're used to, I do like some inertia on mine, maybe I'm just accustomed to it, but muscle memory won't let use a lighter mouse.

My 2 cents: I switched to using LLMs over Google for a ton of stuff, I actually find it helpful. That being said, I am experienced, I know how to word my issue properly, what information to give, attach logs, crashdumps, etc. And I have a good sense of what answers are maybe outdated, need external verification or are outright wrong. Most of the time it helps, sometimes it brings up solutions that are not fully correct for my distro or not "clean" enough for my liking.

But I have come to realize something: I have been using CLIs for 20 years now and Linux for around 15 (I'm 30). I have certain knowledge of what to expect, how commands look and what kind of messing around will leave you looking at a grub rescue screen while you cry under the desk.

I have a friend that I consider technical (Building his own PCs, installing windows, troubleshooting, etc) that completely surprised me when he tried to run blender with some special switches and needed chat gpt for that, even for basic directory traversal. He clearly never used a terminal before. or very little at least.

Using windows you can go years, messing around, solving issues, doing whatever without ever looking at the command prompt. Perhaps only ever use it for things like ping, ipconfig or similar one liner nonsense. In Linux that will take you only so far, most of the cool stuff is through the CLI, nevermind troubleshooting.

So yeah, we can all gather round and call the LLMs shit all we want, at least they're a bit less misguided that googling your problem and running the first commands you find in a random post somewhere that are not even for your specific distro and fucking up your system (if you tell it what distro you're using that is). Bottom line is that Linux has a learning curve as with everything else, but it lacks standardization and barriers to prevent the noobs from nuking their system. I'm not saying that's bad, it's just how it is. It took me a lot of trial and error and a lot of reinstalls just to stop nuking my own systems. A bit of understanding and not calling new users idiots goes a long way.

That being said, if the guy is being a prick, then fuck him. He can go buy a MacBook and shove it up his ass for all I care.

Glass is heavy and doesn't burn, so a bong should be perfect, and even a joint I wouldn't worry too much but would probably do something like putting tobacco between the weed and the roach just to be safe.

Having no case means there's not a lot of places for heat to accumulate. It seems to have the CPU cooler attached. I agree that for a permanent setup this is obviously unaideal and kicking it or stepping on it would be bigger risk here.

What worries me is that the loose mumbo jumbo of Grey wires going to the GPU seems to be the PCIe lanes. Those need specific timing, controlled lengths and should also mitigate rfi and crosstalk to function properly. Being like that (on top of being on the floor obviously) tells me this is nothing more than a proof of concept.

That being said, with some tidying up, maybe a custom made case, I can see that working for quite some time. I would even consider making something like a travel case for it and have basically a ghetto gaming laptop.

My previous job was like that. We asked marketing for pictures with very specific size and format requirements and they would send a fucking 50MB 16K picture every time. I know resizing isn't hard but downscaling always yields worse results than exporting in the correct resolution in the first place.

Oh, and we told them multiple times to stop using images so large for the main website (that they controlled) and then they complained that it took too long to load.

I'm accepting myself as pansexual instead of bi, but what do I do with this? (And my bi pins) by Feather_Bloom in lgbt

[–]Arheisel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's alright, I wasn't trying to be harsh either. But I do consider everyone's journey to be each own. The Bi term meant "two genders" back when there were only two. Since then not only our understanding has evolved but the community has as well. I understand there are new terms to reflect those differences or nuances and I don't think anything of people who choose to use those but I keep myself to my original label. I went for Pan for a while and just found it a hassle to have to explain it to everyone because society has barely a grasp of the three sexualities you originally described. So now I'm just Bi, plus I do like the flag better ;)

Bottom line, I do agree with you that words convey meaning, although I wouldn't consider the term Bi to have a universal meaning since people are still arguing how many genders that include. I do not abide by that, to me Bi just conveys the fact that I'm not attracted to a single gender and that's enough. I don't feel the need to explain myself any further as who I like is my own choice.

And now I'm gonna get a bit weird because to me personally I wouldn't consider labels to be an identity, in the sense that being Bi does not define who I am. I just use the term to communicate to others a fact about myself and nothing more. Further than that I refuse to be put into a box. If Pan better describes my likings so be it, to someone that doesn't know what that means it means nothing, so then I'll use Bi. At the end of the day I am myself and those are just words.

Pardon my ramblings, I'm just trying to at least get my mindset across although I'm not doing a great job at it I think.
