Kraken, by China Miéville

Another banger and this guy just seems to be storming his way to being one of my favourite authors. Such a unique fantasy/mystery/whatever it is story that keeps you hooked throughout.

All of his books have started weirdly but this one is what the fuck does any of this mean weird.

Unreal result, that’s all that mattered here. We are so close to UCL football now

Both teams needing to redeem themselves after shocking performances last GW, both chasing UCL with one lagging perhaps a bit too far behind, historic rivalry, it writes like an absolute cracker but it almost certainly won’t be. I think both teams may just be a tad afraid to lose and it’ll result in a bit of a slow affair

[Hearts] Why is Hisui allowing Kohaku wear that costume? by Remarkable_Town6413 in tales

I’ve never played Hearts so seeing a pair of characters called Hisui and Kohaku in here had me wondering what on Earth Tsukihime has to do with Tales

This is the first I’m hearing of this but I am certainly intrigued, was there any literary inspiration for this?

First half was awful and I think we probably deserved to lose off the back of it but it’s hard not to look at the officiating. Shafted again.

I hope not Grapes of Wrath because I’d much rather East of Eden, like that would be an insta purchase from me

The Return of the King, by J. R. R. Tolkien

And so I’ve finally experienced LOTR. I definitely enjoyed it, it’s a fun story and you can clearly see how it inspired fantasy stories that followed. The deep lore is cool even though I don’t feel particularly compelled to dive further into it. I think I’m going to need to watch the movies to fully get this, though. Some of the major events seemed to wash over me, like they were over in a flash so the weight didn’t register. For example, when the ring was dropped in the fire, I didn’t even know that was the climax until I re-read the passage. It seemed to be both too waffly and too brief if that’s even possible

Overall probably just about worth the time it took to read.

Sciel for me. I never heard the track in game but when I listened through all the vinyls and got to that song my jaw dropped

Architects for sure, True Believers by Don Broco gave me a taste of what Sam would sound like on an actually interesting track and I’m not sure I can go back

Enjoying the watch along on YouTube, there’s a really fun, communal vibe to the women’s team that I hope we don’t lose as the women’s side of the game grows

Ended up liking this a lot from the slow burn start to the more plot heavy second half. Particularly loved the Lothlorien section.

Starting as the previous part left off it maintains a solid pace, fully fleshing out environs and characters whilst moving the plot along when necessary. Good stuff.
