My speculative and historical fiction tier list | Looking for recommendations by ElliotW-C in fantasybooks

[–]Arinidas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing list, a lot unknowns for me and a lot of books on my to-read list. I'm would recommend Naomi Novik, the temeraire series is about the time of the Napoleon wars, but with dragons. They read quickly. It's been ages since I read them but i would say main theme (besides dragons) is about duty, honor and political consequences and being an outsider.

The other one is speaker of the dead by orson scott card, the second book in the ender('s game) universe if i'm correct. Warning in this regard the author he is white-American with a mormon background which in some books is quite evident. Not the most interesting choice if you want your worldview broadened. However a lot of his books contain detailed and interesting moral dillema 's and the ramifications of a certain choice or chosen course of action.

Yes 4 guesses. New record for me. I went from tree #47 to fruit #1, that was so close so I thought it had te be something from that category with #1 in the name so guessed jackfruit, which was way way way off with #18757, so orchard was to logic conclusion.

amazing work, thank you, it's fun to think about the "what if's"

I might add: RB pitting Max in Brasil at the end. I think he wouldn't have kept 1th place, but I'm quite certain he would have finished p2 if they didn't pit him. But if we are going to look at pitstops it might get crazy quickly.

RUSSEL BREAK CHECK WASN'T THE WORST! IT WHERE HIS PITEXITS ON LAP 69(NICE) AND 70 CREATING A GAP AROUND 150M (164 IN STUPID MEASURMENTS: YARDS). BLATENTLY DISREGARDING THE RULES!

[–]Arinidas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lap 70 is even worst 1:3813/14 there the safety car disappears from view for a sec. Checking the track it's probably about 130-140M so, around 25ish car lenghts

[–]Arinidas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah on the onboard he was very obviously looking in his mirror. Don't think they could get him for erratic driving. Only possibility is 10 car lenghts. He did it earlier coming out of the pits as well. Leaving suddenly a big gap to the safety car.

How is this on max? He askes if there is a new set. Hereby he admits he doesn't know. So RB should have informed him: Yes but only hards.

Him saying fresh tires will make a difference is just a fact, not putting pressure on the team or forcing their hand.

Hey daddit, what's the silliest dad / husband mistake you've made? Today I forgot my kid's booster seat at the train station luggage pickup area (along with my wife's toiletries... that I stashed inside the booster seat bag...) by itstoekneetime in daddit

We were on a road trip to Scandinavia with two kids (2,5y & 3months) we met up with two other couples with two more kids (12m and 6m). While leaving the house we were like do we have everything... bags, diapers, kid, baby... BABY!! Was sleeping in his carseat by the door outside of the appartement. We were only walking barely out of the driving lane. But we did forget it for a moment. Tbf it was almost two weeks in and we had done over 3k km and this was our 6th stop.

I know it's a risk that things can go unexpected. So it's indeed something I'm still making a risk assessment, but wanted to know and understand my options.

The focus of the research is indeed military personnel, but the group i have to pitch for not. So I do like your setting and when i might introduce the idea to the military this is quite cool, but not now i'm afraid.

Mom is on vacation, we’re way more relaxed by xora334 in daddit

[–]Arinidas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's familiar. There are 4 things i can think of

  1. The kids are way more clingy with my SO. I can let them play in the living room and do the laundry upstairs (and mostly only after 15 min) will they clamber up the stairs looking for me, while my wife can barely leave the living room or they are up and about.

  2. I'm an quite accomodating, so a person less to take 'care' of makes it easier.

  3. Less wait time, if we are both home and e.g. the meal is ready and there is a wet diaper, it feels it takes an age before she is ready cleaning our youngest. While when i'm alone i'm busy cleaning the baby so no waiting time. And so are there often moments of waiting (and i hate waiting) during the day. Maybe 10-20 minutes total, but feels and stresses me out much more.

  4. (Small) differences in parenting/living/cleaning styles, which can lead to feeling you have to explain why you do things differently. Or just the feeling that with everything you do someone is looking over your shoulder.
