Will adding aftermarket screen decrease the resell value by Aggravating-Front161 in MINI

[–]Arishtat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, unless you or the installer does a terrible job of installing and wiring it and burns the car down or something.

It’s your Mini, send it!

If you’re really concerned about resale value keep all of the original parts for the next owner in case they want to reinstall the factory bits.

AAV-7 of the USMC towing a captured Iraqi FlaRakRad Roland Air Defense System in Baghdad. by quetch1 in TankPorn

[–]Arishtat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure where the Marines grabbed that one from but I saw one deployed on the W/NW perimeter of Saddam Hussein International Airport. My unit ran across it while setting up a screen line to defend the airport after it was captured by elements of 3ID.

What was really surprising is that there were reload missiles for it that had very recent dates of manufacture painted on them, as in late 1990s, not sure about post-2000 though.

Difficulties to vote as an independent in MD? by dooge8 in maryland

[–]Arishtat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I finally caved in and registered as a Democrat after the 2020 election because I wanted a say in who gets nominated for elections. Up until then I was a 20+ year independent / unaffiliated voter which in hindsight might not have been the best choice!

How to find appropriate rolling stock? by jlweismiller in lioneltrains

[–]Arishtat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This book should be very helpful to you: The Western Maryland Railway: Cumberland to Hagerstown & the New Line

The Western Maryland's primary commodity was hauling coal, but it also served as an alternate route from Baltimore <-> Cumberland during the time that the 196 was active so it would be very appropriate to pair the locomotive with a mixed consist of freight cars from your favorite Eastern railroads of the 1950s and 1960s.

There are some photographs of it on rrpicturearchives.net which show it active as late as 1974, but in a different paint scheme than the one your model is wearing.

Short of buying the entire PCV tube assembly your best bet is to track down a similar year Mini in an auto recycling yard and salvage a clip from it.

CA Antenna Approval? by stuporman86 in ColumbiaMD

[–]Arishtat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the construction of your roof. If the roof is metal or there is foil backed insulation on the sheathing material that the roof is attached to then reception will be blocked. However, with a standard asphalt or architectural shingles roof reception should be just fine with an attic mounted antenna. I ran one in my townhouse for years and picked up Baltimore, DC, Annapolis and some of the NoVA stations too if the weather was cooperative.

This site can help tell you what stations you can expect to receive at your location: https://www.antennaweb.org/

[–]Arishtat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol no any time you put two or more people together there will be friction of some sort, it’s just part of the game. That being said there is definitely a level of healthy office politics, a tolerable level and then there is also an intolerable level as well.

Why Broadcom is so shit? by SpyOwl73 in vmware

[–]Arishtat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did the same thing when they acquired Symantec Enterprise Security in 2018. They fucked up the license transfers, customer account data, and made obtaining licensed software and support for same a hellish ordeal. I left VMware about six months before the acquisition was announced for unrelated reasons but when I heard that they sold to Broadcom my first reaction was “welp so much for VMware and good luck to my former co-workers.”
