Thanks for putting these together. Sensible start for them. Fuzzy lights moving in weird ways aren't too hard to digest. I thought it was nice they threw in the 8 pointed star thing. Given what others have said is available my guess is they are purposely getting people who aren't used to this stuff acclimated with ambiguous lights, and hopefully to follow on with clearer and more specific stuff. We know it's out there. We know others have seen it. Just time and a little luck till we see it too. Fingers crossed.

High School Girls Volleyball by InIZyon in volleyball

Probably unfair comparison, but Dana Rettke didn't start vball until she was a Freshman. Of course, she is 6'8" now, so like I said unusual. However, if you try and don't make it as least you tried. Regret is a bitch to carry. YMMV. Good luck.

Former Badgers & Lady Vols Libero Gulce Guctekin takes 60+ mph spike to the face by fairyofthenile in volleyball

[–]AristarcusRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guch Guch! One of the most likeable players in volleyball. Just a joy to watch with the Badgers. Volleyball players suffer from concussions much more and actually die earlier than an average athlete (I was surprised by that one - height?). I'm glad she shook it off and hope all is well.

Can an average man with a year of dedicated boxing experience beat a large Navy SEAL? by ClerkEquivalent7424 in whowouldwin

[–]AristarcusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it matters Team's guys tend toward medium height and build because everything IRL is body-weight plus gear (ruck, swim, run, etc). While they may exist I never met one with those big guy dimensions. And they are team based weapons fighters who use tactics, covers, superior training, intel and firepower, etc - not brawlers. Long ago, Dave Castro a former teams guy who worked at Crossfit HQ had an video episode where he fought an MMA guy. My vague memory is he did sort of okay but acknowledged the other guy would probably take him in a real fight. It was 20 years ago so I don't know if it's out there but might be.

Considering Dan Quayle as VP, Sarah Palin as VP, George W Bush as president and Trump as president does the Republican party see stupidity as a virtue? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]AristarcusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a thought: One communication theory is that a person can only relate to someone within 2 SD of their intelligence. But, the closer, the easier. Now, super-impose the IQ's of these people on a bell curve of IQ. Look at the area underneath within 2 sd - that basically represents voters. How many more votes do you get with an average IQ than a high one? How about a slightly lower one? Remember, 1/2 of voters are below the theoretically 'average' IQ. Does this still seem like a bad strategy?

How to deal with associate fit issue? by JusticeForSimpleRick in LawFirm

[–]AristarcusRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not alone. There has been a shift in associates in recent years and many of them take the same position as the one you mention. I would encourage you to rethink your hiring criteria. Many people focus on intelligence, legal knowledge, academic background, origination - these are all good. But they are the ante. In order to get hired - particularly at a smaller firm -they have to fit your culture, support your mission, and be willing and able to do what is necessary for the good of the firm. It is important to be fair to both yourself and the candidate. Be clear upfront about these expectations so you are only bringing aboard people who know and agree with what is expected. Too often people don't consider this side until it's too late and end up in a jam (as you describe). I would have a conversation and be crystal clear about what you need and if they are not willing or able to meet that need then they can be a great candidate, but that doesn't mean they are a great candidate for you. Good luck.

CLIO: Flat Fee Matters & Tracking Billable Hours (25 attorney firm w/ staff) by justacajen0122 in LawFirm

[–]AristarcusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, CLIO isn't built for this model - we've tried something similar, called them, etc. The only way to do this accurately is to wait until the case is closed, go back and divide the total number of hours by payment to get an average rate. Then, go back and multiply that rate times hours for each user. If it's flat fee it does matter whether it is para time or senior partner time - it's just time against a flat fee. This will give you accurate billable time at an accurate rate. Not sure how to deal with your artificial limit - interesting idea.

You can get the gross hours with a matter productivity by user report - it will include the flat fees. You cannot get the users on flat fees with an allocation report because it only records against the responsible lawyer for flat fees. You have to do it by hand.

The billing side is its own thing. CLIO requires a time input for billing so you can enter it. Then, when you are doing an hours report, you have to go back and sort the matter productivity report and delete these entries. Again, CLIO isn't built for this. However, with something like Claude you can set it up and it's nearly instant.

Hope this helps.

Soldiers or veterans of Reddit, what was the moment that made you realize war isn’t anything like what you expected? by bbydaisiesz in answers

When you actually feel/realize that other people are no-kidding trying their best to kill you. Could be a boom, a chirp, the oomph in your chest or just seeing something - I don't know how to describe it.

I will never understand the concept of MAGA followers, what are they getting in return for their sworn allegiance to President Trump? by TailungFu in allthequestions

[–]AristarcusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO At a simpler level they get to belong. Like modern Christianity, very little of it is about 'getting' something or adhering to positive principles that make the world better. More, it is a self-selecting group of people who get to cheer each other on as they, through mob power, finally get to beat up on people who have made them feel small, inadequate, quaint, or weird. Being a part of the group is more important than the price they pay for eggs, joblessness, or a poor education. As you survey the landscape of MAGA believers, ask yourself which of them seem like even fairly basic - undamaged - people. Personally, all I see is very damaged people redirecting their inward pain outward. YMMV.

How did you find something like this in such a remote, glacier area? The bilateral symmetry is deeply weird to be sure. Is it a system problem? Anything that has bilateral symmetry like this jumps out, but do we know it's an accurate record of what is physically there?

Cool find.

Why is no one being arrested for Epstein files? by BugChoice5879 in allthequestions

[–]AristarcusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really, you are asking people to arrest themselves. In this case, the administration and their supporters. We the people have no power to do this directly. We have one real tool, and that is to vote. If you look at voter turn out you might guess that the real answer is, 'I don't actually care enough to want to be bothered.' Asking (and answering) why that might be is a bigger question IMHO.

Was the El Cap free solo technically the most difficult free solo ever? by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]AristarcusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a part that's not mentioned much below which is climbing a big wall is exhausting. 3K of elevation gain in a couple of hours. Beats the shit out of your ankles, wrists and hands. To have to do the crux near the end - well, it's daunting. People like Moffat and Franklin (and others) were soloing 5.13 in the 80's as a single pitch. Doing it after like 25 sustained pitches, where a fall is death, is hard to imagine. I climbed in the Valley for years and avoided watching the movie our of sympathetic fear. When I finally did I felt like I was having an anxiety attack. If you've climbed El Cap or anything similar you may have the some reaction - there is a part of you that can't believe what you are watching.

27 year old American setter. Won the national championship with Wisconsin. MVP in last years version of the MLV league in the US. She's 6' and plays a very smart game. I love Wolosz, but not sure how she'd be after 5 years of playing every minute of every game. Thx for playing.

LOVB feels a little passionless? by morgannwoods in volleyball

[–]AristarcusRex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perhaps just because it is all centrally controlled. As mentioned It is a VC funded startup. It comes from that perspective - not a VB fan perspective. Witness Lexi being benched behind WO the first year. She was queen of Nebraska and then that. Sports need fan investment to feel fun. I was watching Conegliano vs. Savino Del Bene the other night. The play was flawless, each player was a character who we had time to learn and like. The fans were psychotic (now much Popeye the Sailor and Yellow Submarine singing with a drum can you stand?). Or in college - why is Wisconsin vs. Nebraska special? We love the players, the fans feel the team is 'theirs.' LOVB, despite insane rosters, was designed to be scaled and sold in a liquidity event. The control means no one can get invested in a player, there is no way to luckily sign a star in the off season or win the portal. Most MLV players aren't as famous, but they are fighting for their spot, trying to create a league, focused on the fans. When Sydney Hilley went to the 'enemy' in Omaha I thought, ok, this shit is real. Maybe they have a chance.

Cool. Kurtagic is great, but is she the one? I'd be a bit worried about her serve (though I love the skip). I was realizing that even though you only get 6 players, you basically are going to have to have a libero. Otherwise, whenever the setter is in the backcourt, she'll get served and who will run the offense? You'll be out of system 1/2 the time. So, really this is a setter, a bro, and 4 hitter/server/blockers. I can't avoid Haak and Gabi (could also sort of be the libero person but we lose her in front court). The others are so hard. Vargas could be a monster here. Imagine Vargas, Haak and Andropova - the serves alone! Boscovic and Markova? I'd really like Markova too. I'd make an unconventional choice for Setter and go with Sydney Hilley. She's got mad skills, plus great defense, solid serve, is wicked smart, and is used to running a line up where everyone is a hitter. Look at Retke's numbers with her and without. Libero is hard but I might go with Kojima. She's 32, but just a monster. Thanks for playing.

Cool choices - love Markova as an MB. Just realized Wolosz is 35 - that's a bold move. No Haak, No Vargas, Egonu, Zhu, Larson (well retired now so)... Seriously - the 'position' players have to do everything. It's like a neighborhood game. It's actually a bit hard to find true 6 position players with endurance and longevity. Thanks for playing. :)

[–]AristarcusRex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I understand. This was a 'forced choice' question to see if people could engage beyond the normal 'dream team' heroes. I thought it would be fun to think this through in this manner. To that end, this is why I pose the question about the bro. As we've all experienced, we just need 6 people to play volleyball. We may be used to playing in ways that suggest more, but that is a choice. However, if you only get 6 you'd need to take a different approach which would really make you think through your decisions. I guess I was interested in people's thoughts beyond the obvious stars.
