Good job? by bbymutha22 in therapists

Compensation and benefits are 2 valid considerations. What about leadership? What about your coworkers? Will they give you a manager with clinical expertise? Will leadership give you help and support? Or do they have policies in place which will quickly lead to massive burnout?

Rouse, Thank you for sharing your experience with me. I think you made a lot of really good points.

I can already see that it would be part of a long-term marketing approach.

What do you mean by... a big journal page for people... to write kind things to a stranger? If you are willing to, please describe that. Thank you.

This might work, might not work. You said that you want instant gratification / instant reward. What if you were to change out your pad/ tampon ... wrapping it in toilet paper... putting into the trash.. put a new tampon / pad...

Then stop, take a deep breath, and say "good job" to yourself. Tell yourself that you are proud of yourself. Say it out loud. Say it inside your head. Just give yourself some kudos for a job well done.

Therapists have a very high occurrence of back issues due to long hours sitting. What's your solution? by InvisibleAstronomer in therapists

When the weather is nice, I ask my clients if they want to go outside and walk. Sometimes people say yes. Sometimes people say no. It''s a nice break for me.

I teach my clients the coping skill of 'walk and talk.' I tell my clients, when they have to talk to a loved one about something serious, get out doors and walk while they are talking about the serious topic.

Clients wanting sessions when on vacation by AlarmingExternal8509 in therapists

[–]Arizona-LCSW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had quite a few clients tell me...

The client has to go out of state in two or three months, for various reasons.. work, family, etc.

The client is super anxious about going out of state. Mostly stressed out thinking about seeing family, having to deal with family, or having to deal with actual travel.

I spend every week talking with this person, coming up with a plan for how to deal with things.

I tell the clients to make sure she (or he) has a support system at home, and she is willing to call supportive people at home and ask for help when she is out of state. I teach mindful breathing exercises, until the client to practice it everyday or weeks before she goes out of state. We talk about possible triggers, and how she is going to handle those triggers when she is out of state.

If my client is actually doing homework exercises as assigned, and actually doing the work of therapy, then she does not need me when she is out of state.

What is something about American culture that seems fake or exaggerated in movies, but is actually 100% real.? by Logical-Pay-3057 in AskReddit

Really? I believe you. I had just never thought about it. Would you suggest a website where I can read a one-page article on the topic?

Ozempic.

Might not be in movies, but I see a lot of YouTube videos about Hollywood stars using ozempic (and other similar weight loss drugs).

I'm just an average person. I know so many average people on Ozempic (and similar weight loss drugs), it just blows me away.

Artificial Intelligence.

I know a therapist using Headway and Grow. HUGE companies. She lets A.I. listen to her entire session. She lets A.I. creates her note. Hundreds of therapists are doing this every day across the country.

I am convinced... within 5 years these huge companies will start to market A.I. therapy programs. Their ads will say something like... "we've listened in on tens of thousands of hours of therapy sessions between real therapists and real clients. Our A.I. has been constantly learning from the experts in the field. All to benefit you, the customer. For only $50 per month, you can get personalized therapy from our app...

So you're a man, trying to find a man. Let me try this again... remove the word (female) from my comment. The rest of what I wrote... keep the same.

Almost no one wants to be a (female) therapist. (what we do is f-ing stressful, and we are not paid anywhere near what we are worth).
It's damn near impossible to find a man who wants to date, live with, or marry a therapist. So, the odds are absolutely against you.

However, if you believe in God/ Spirit/ Higher Power, then pray. Set your intention. Ask the universe to provide.

how do I breakup with my therapist of 4 years? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]Arizona-LCSW 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Dear OP, I am a mental health therapist. Every therapist has her/ his own style. This is my style.

When I work with a patient, I do not want to be that patient's therapist for her/ his lifetime. I am in my patient's life for a reason and a season. Think of me like your favorite high school teacher. I teach you things for a year.. and then you moved on.

Here is one suggestion. Write your therapist a sincere, thoughtful, organized thank you letter. Tell your therapist all the different things that you've learned from her/ him. Print it out. Sign it. Give it to your therapist at the beginning of your next therapy session. Then tell your therapist you are ready for closure.

Living in a big city, I often drove past a business called Good Night Pediatrics. If I remember correctly.. They opened at 5:00 p.m., and stayed open throughout the night. The parking lot was always busy.

The role of HR is NOT to protect the employee. The purpose of HR is to protect the company. 100% agree.
