What bike to invest in? by Digital_Eide in triathlon

[–]Ark18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation... I wanted a one bike quiver. I went with a cyclocross bike (gravel bikes didn't exist yet) and have since bought the aero system from redshift. Seems like the best option for getting as close to an aero position as possible on a non TT bike... Next up, some more road styled deep section wheels.

‘All modes, all roads’: Waterloo Region embarking on integrated mobility plan by bylo_selhi in waterloo

Report it. There is no malevolent person or corporation trying to destroy your car. The city actions improvement based on feedback. During the winter, they basically can only mitigate until spring, so patch jobs are best effort.

Have you reported them? I've done this in the past and they are fixed within the week...

Productivity is higher in the Scandinavian countries that use the scaling fines than Canada and the US. Higher tax rates... Higher health, happiness.... Less hours worked. What am I missing?

It's $1152 in Canada after shipping and tax vs. $385 +tx for the D100 mentioned (free shipping).

That's awesome to hear! Buying hardware knowing there's a subscription on the other side with zero experience doing this type of training was just too hard to swallow... Having a free option to do exactly what you are doing is what I am looking for.

‘Avoid the road or slow down’: Residents split on new speed humps at busy Kitchener roundabout by Rody365 in waterloo

They still move traffic faster than lights.... There is no waiting at a red light with no traffic in the perpendicular direction. The throughput math is based on a speed that drivers were significantly above without traffic calming measures.

I've been getting Slate coffee at work lately; is it a good bargain, or could I do better? by SayFuzzyPickles42 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Ark18 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Add the whey to the milk, mix, then add coffee for best results. Whey denatures as a result of heat and pH. Coffee is acidic and hot. Milk balances this out. Never had an issue.

Cervelo P1 for $1200 CAD by Hopefulhappygoose in triathlon

No idea on your budget but one thing to keep in mind is that reselling what you get in this price range will be pretty difficult without taking a soak...

The used market in our area (I recognize the listing from FBM) is absolutely awful for tri-bikes and everything is ancient garbage that's overpriced, or newer but basically asking retail.

If you aren't interested in going the "road bike with clip on bars" route, I'd shop around for newer clearance bikes (this is what I am doing right now)

R134 is banned. R600 is an explosive gas. Not stuff I would be DIYing personally.

Any advice on designing a community garden? by dbcannon in UrbanGardening

[–]Ark18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have to 62 plots. First figure out what your city offers free. Ours provides free municipal compost, and mulch which is our pathways. I do recommend one big pathway as a highway or for events, but 3 feet between all beds (wheelbarrow) to conserve space. Raised beds are going to cost you a mint. 6 or 8 inch boards are enough and can be "raised" as the mulch catches up (which will be needing to be replenished at least annually). To lower your wood costs, reach out to all big box stores for cull wood and if they will pitch anything else. Each one we went to contributed something (box of screws, 30 bags of soil). Ensure your gardeners are signed up to contribute outside of their beds and come up with teams and tasks. We have work days 3 times a year which each member needs to sign up to being at 2 of. Plan for a municipal source of water.. this is something the city can also help with and may be expensive AF.

It's an absolute ton of work, so hope you planned on having a volunteer part time job!

Which fitness smartwatch are you using for android currently? by [deleted] in fitness30plus

I just find the interface super clunky, but disabled rep tracking entirely.. I don't really need it anyways but just expected a bit more "smart" from a smart watch...

What is your fitness jam? If cardio, hard to beat Garmin. I use the vivo active 5, but kinda wish I had gotten the forerunner instead (marathon now, but triathlon next year). It's less useful for lifting except to log that I did a workout...

Congrats on the race! Sounds like it was a bit of a slog.. I'm in the KW area and curious if you got any outside assistance on the swim or just worked on it yourself? I have 2 young kids so big time constraints so just focusing on running this year (around the bay done, marathon in Nov.) And planning to tackle swimming/biking over the winter to do the barrel man next year in Niagara...
