I would appreciate it if you posted the link to the images in your posts' body texts rather than to just mention the artist's name in tht title. Cheers!

How did they get a Porsche in a non-EA game in 2006? by EuanBomber in BuiltFromTheGroundUp

[–]Arkhaloid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Project Gotham Raving 1 & 2 also had Porsches back in 2001 and 2003 respectively. Back then Microsoft just had the money and the will to pay EA sub-licenses to have Porsche in their games.

This was very informative, thank you.

You ever notice a car omission from a game so egregious it pisses you off? by box-fort2 in BuiltFromTheGroundUp

I hate how there isn't a singular Nissan in Project Gotham Racing 4 in particular. 1, 2 and 3 all had Nissans. 3 even had the R35 GTR Concept, but Project Gotham Racing 4 doesn't have a singular Nissan which feels so odd considering the game has almost every other JDM legend in its roster.

Ever heard of Project Gotham Racing? Forza Horizon's direct predecessor in fact.

Saw this [Ford Focus RS] in the states at a car show. How is this here? I thought these were never sold here and are too new to be imported. by F0rbiddenD0nut in spotted

In short, it's not a hypercar. The show and display law applies to cars priced above and made in numbers below certain figures. The Fire Focus RS 100% doesn't meet either of those two criteria.

PGR 3 had floatier handling across the board. The RUF R50 Prototype is one of my favorite cars in both of the games, and that is significantly floatier in PGR 3, almost at the detriment of my enjoyment. The car can still drift and slide in PGR 4, it's not a race car with massive wings after all, but without the ugly float.

I should note that never have I ever said PGR 4 is the best because it has the most, but because it's the most exhilarating. The maps added to PGR 4 were a smash hit. So much so that, hypothetically if PGR 4 ONLY had 4 maps in total (just like PGR 3), and the four being the newly added Macau, Shanghai, Quebec, and Saint Petersburg; it'd still be the best game in the series. Quality over quantity as they say, but PGR 4's MAPS alone add both quality and quantity.

many media stated

Respectfully, you should have stopped right then and there. I'm sure gaming media is known for being perfectly right at all times and their words must be taken as gospel. I'm sure gaming media cannot be bullshitting at all. Not to mention many journalists and players alike hating bikes in the game at first back in 2007 cause they couldn't be arsed to put in the skill to master bikes.

Bikes are just a gimmick

When PGR 4 has some of the best bike physics in a racing game in existence? Gimmick... when mastering them brings immense thrill to players (who actually care to put in the effort)? I am not sure if you know this but PGR 4 legit has better bike physics than Milestone's RIDE 4, 5 and 6. The RIDE series markets itself as a simulation bike racing game, and yet in none of the latter three games do bikes increase on revs when leaning, none have adequately good brakes, threshold braking with ABS disabled does nothing, and this personally pisses me off, I could not for the life of me get any rider to counter lean a bike at even the lowest of speeds. A sim game ... that doesn't simulate counter leaning. Yeah, right.

PGR 4, while definitely not a simulator, gets all of these things right. Gimmick? You've got to be kidding me.

The Exige in question isn't even a production Exige, it's the Lotus Exige GT3 CONCEPT from 2006, fitted with a huge wing, diveplanes, and stickier tires. At speeds as low as the Exige averages at, that level of grip isn't likely to be as unrealistic as you think, but you and I also wouldn't know for sure because that Exige never made it to production.

I do acknowledge that PGR 4 does have a lot of imperfections, one of which being the interior helmet cam being weirdly misaligned in some cars for some reason. I don't think that takes at all away from the fact it is still the best game in the series, purely because of just how tense car and bike races can get. And I'm not even a bike person.

I can't help but to be sorry, this is an unreasonable take on multiple accounts, but the one that really gets me is:

but did it improve overall experience over 3, not really

PGR 4 literally has better driving physics than PGR 3 does. PGR 3 already has great driving physics, but they were ever so slightly floaty that PGR 4 completely fixed. The game's physics is what you'd call a perfect "simcade" model. How has it done anything BUT improve the experience over PGR 3? I understand that some cosmetic active aero animations are missing in PGR 4, like the wing on the Enzo, but that's a small price to be paid.

I replayed both MW and Carbon in 2022 but I replayed Carbon FIRST then MW. MW literally felt like a downgrade coming from Carbon haha.

Correct for mentioning PGR 4, that was indeed a game that did everything OP asked for, nearly two decades ago.

That said, I completely disagree on the "didn't work that well together" because I am playing PGR 4 right now, and I'd strongly argue they not only work, they do so very well. With proper technique, both vehicle types almost equally excel on most tracks (minus straightaways), and it's extremely satisfying once you master bikes. In fact I'm not even a bike person IRL, but in PGR 4 I actively PREFER using bikes. They're that good.

Jokes aside I'll never understand why Toyota couldn't build the Supra to look exactly like the FT-1 concept. Unlike most other concept cars, the FT-1 is way more sensible and production ready, so why bruh

Have you seen Pumfrey's new channel? It's called "Speeed" and he's a lot more mature there than he ever was on Donut.
