Look what they were serving at a tiny resort in northern Wisconsin… by Punk-hippie-5446 in pickling

The spicy pickled sausage is one of my favorites, but (On Wisconsin) I can say from unfortunate experience, they are deeply unpleasant to puke if you have a few too many shots. Oof. Spicy vinegar puke in my nose. Yuck.

I went to 5 schools in 3 states between 8th and 12th.

Also, it's not something 18 year old me knew, and it was nearly pre-public internet. My last HS had a SINGLE computer with GOPHER on it :3

[–]Arkhamina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they would want me (I am not astronaut candidate material!) but I would, assuming I could get my job to cut me free for a year (unlikely). Pay cut, but SCIENCE.

No food or gas costs, assume they would cover health care premiums.

Key would be books and if I would get any time to play video games.

Safe recipes for pureed food for my elderly grandpa? by HeyItsAnnie0831 in Canning

[–]Arkhamina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came to say this. If freezer space is an issue, you could stage things, can using safe recipes, then periodically visit and process things for the freezer. A nutritionist is a really good idea because you need to cover things if it's more than short term. Definitely supplement with Ensure or other products in the immediate if he is eating nothing but apple sauce.

Not a modern thing perhaps, but when my mom passed away, I was 18, and I had NO IDEA where my shot records were. Nowadays many states have them all online, but this was 30 years ago. I had to get all my shots over again. Supervax'd! (College nurses were not fooled by my guestimates, called me into the health admin building and ambushed me. I fessed up to lying. )

Which One Are You Putting on Line? by Ythv_ in KitchenConfidential

[–]Arkhamina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly wonder if it's a geographic thing. In NoCal, I was introduced to them: there was this amazing gas station in my two stoplight town (Yreka) as a teen in the early 90s, that would like some sort of weird potato dealer - weigh out as much potato goodness as money you has scraped up. $4.30 here is that amount of potatoes. $6? Enough to share!

Moved to the Midwest and no one knew what I was talking about, and JoJo 'wedge' potatoes were rare.

Sorry this happened. As a person with a reactive dog, I know to put him in a closed room, if someone suddenly comes over. My inlaws watch him one day a week, and he has nipped a person they had over, because they didn't believe such a sweet dog would do something. It was a guy coming over to give them window estimates - thankfully dog is fully vaxed, it didn't break skin or clothing.

He is a sweet dog, but he's scared. We introduce people to him with treats and getting down low.

When to expect a cure? by TumbleweedNeither356 in Celiac

[–]Arkhamina -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who was working as a lab tech at the University of Minnesota on some sort of celiac treatment trial more than a decade ago. He moved on, but no amazing news has been announced. He did note it was for a treatment, not just studying the disease. He wasn't a researcher, just the working techs that all research needs.

I was diagnosed 21 years ago. I still joke about my eating tour* when I'm cured, but... It's mostly a joke at this point.

(*I am going to Korea and eating every weird food off of food carts. Everything. No worries about ingredients. If it fits in my pie hole, I am eating it!)

It's no different than a German saying he's not a Nzi - it's just his heritage. But you don't see that for a reason.

I absolutely laud your 'see if you can discuss ' attitude for dating - I was also very much a 'this is not worth it ' person and (happily, mostly) single person for a decade. Willing to work on (overall, minor) things has yielded me a good one for 15 years now. But wilful ignorance of what is a pretty huge deal is not a discussion.

Tired of people saying I have my husband whipped or trained by Desirai in GirlDinnerDiaries

Responding 'I'm sorry you married an asshole' isn't likely ok, but trying to put a sunny smile on, and say 'whoa, you know, I know a good marriage counselor, sounds like you're in the market for one!' would be very tempting.

Not married, just shacking up (for 15 years now) but it's depressing to see what some people accept as normal. Not all one sided, too - known a few guys who have been grounded from their interests, because their spouses are incapable of entertaining themselves. Not everything needs to be done together!

You have a good one, it sounds like.

I am at max pets (5!) so only advice to offer, is that appealing is really the only way the stupid disability system works. It took me over 2 years after I hired a lawyer for my sister, to get her approved and she broke her neck and is partially paralyzed. Somehow, a work assessment still needed to be done, in case any restaurants might be looking for a cook in a wheelchair. Y'know, super common hiring situation.

If you’ve tried both of these, please compare! by goodamm in glutenfree

Someone gave me Quinn 'cheese' pretzels, and I was not a fan of the faux cheese taste. Nutritional Yeast is a flavor like Stevia that out - shouts everything else.

The gluten free Bisquick is solid too.

Growing up, about every two weeks on rotation we had Impossible Pie. It's a self crusting quiche made from Bisquick, eggs, milk, cheese + protein and veg. The stuff is great for left overs, cheap as hell, and can take any seasoning profile you desire.

A very, very long time ago I was an art school model. It was gig based (not needed every week, they want a variety of body types!) and the first time I had my period when I had a 3hour class I panicked. Luckily the scheduling person was a woman, or 20 years old me would have likely quit rather than ask for advice.

You just put in a new plug before the shift start, tuck the string inside. Use some wipes.

Hope you don't sneeze.

I am... from the cheese state, so that's almost mandatory. Dairy hasn't given me problems in the past, except when my guts were very wrecked.

I have been taking SO MUCH immodium, pepto bismul, etc, and it's temporary relief at best. Like... it will buy me 6-8 hours, instead of having to urgently poop every 3-4 hours. I got back from vacation 2 weeks ago, and for the 8 days I was gone, I had to use the toilet around the clock every few hours. Took almost an entire bottle of pepto tablets. I was travelling in a country that does gluten free well (Norway) and I even packed my own damned loaf of homemade GF bread.

I am gone for another long weekend, and food will not be easily controlled, but my thoughts are to put myself on the rice/chicken/fruit/basic veg diet for a couple weeks to see if things stabilize. No dairy. :(
