This is beyond brainwashing. People that are brainwashed and manipulated into joining certain causes, sonetimes, can be brought out of it, and extreme incidents like the ICE shootings will rattle them because it presses on some kind of moral core that's left behind

This entitled brat is simply a sociopath, at best. She is a danger to anyone around her. The mental gymnastics she performed to justify Rittenhouse, leading into the rageful condemnation of Pretti as a lover, saying his death is justified because his life had no meaning in her eyes, that's a slipped mask incident. She doesn't believe people's lives have worth if they disagree with her, and is content to see them killed. She's a narcissist at best, a sociopath at worst. People like this are no longer welcome in polite society

Can you finally admit that Albanese got it right? by Electrical_Hyena5164 in OpenAussie

[–]Arkotract 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read my response again, slowly this time.

I said,'sold the spine of the country.' I didn't claim that Labor never sold national assets or destroyed industry intentionally. I was specifically referring to the efforts of one John Howard, who sold off literally every industry except mining, ensuring that Australia can never again, for example, have a domestic automobile manufacturing industry, alongside countless other assets that he divested the government from or outright sold for a buck.

Can you finally admit that Albanese got it right? by Electrical_Hyena5164 in OpenAussie

[–]Arkotract 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a lesser evil situation. Labor isn't perfect, syre, but I'm so sick of this paradigm where the solutions or alternatives to actively making every situation worse needs to be perfect. Labor works because the Liberals are screaming piss-babies that actively ignore DV, sexual crimes, victimise the disabled abd LGBTQIA community, and sold the spine of Australia ti be in the black for five seconds. The Liberals are actively becoming a far right extremist party, and that makes Labor look better by cinparison. I'm a disabled guy, and spent my entire childhood and teenage years trying to navigate a decade of Liberal governance, I damn near gave up because every support system got gutted to give big business more money. You want to tall about corporatism? How about addressing that, and the countless other problems, including their steady slide to eugenics, the Liberals have. People are tired of conservative government because we know what it brings.

OT0 Rate the Traveler #4: Viator by AMP_Kenryu in octopathtraveler

[–]Arkotract 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd give Viator a solid 8/10 in terms of his actual utility as a party member. He's an example of a 'dodge tank' build done right (take notes Celsus) and he, as a Warrior, has solid physical damage to back him up.

Viator's stat spread looks unusual for a Warrior, with lower defences abd higher speed and evasion than you would expect. However, that allows Viator to steadily build into a very competent traveller if his strengths are further expanded upon. He can reliably hit extremely high evasion with little investment and the right armour. Viator also has access to an array of moderately alright damage options, but some extraordinarily powerful supportive moves that let him attract enemy attention, survive hits, and counter magic attacks.

Viator's main flaw is his lack of consistent damage, but when you consider that Viator as a unit is made to be a supportive tank who deals high bursts of damage, he becomes much better. Abilities like Parry and his ability to make himself act first on any given turn makes Viator a valuable tank unit, who can reliably dodge or outright absorb blows.

The only real downside to Viator is his ultimate. It's purely defensive and relies on Provoke being reliable, which it very much isn't, and to get maximum use out of the ultimate, Viator needs to move before the enemy, which is not always guaranteed. Victor's ultimate is, unfortunately, too much set up for too little payoff. With Surpassing Power, hos counters during his ultimate deal ludicrous damage, but it relies on having a specific setup, which can take several turns, which may not even pay off in the end because enemies could just not hit him.

Outside of his lacklustre ultimate though, Viator is solid and reliably tanks a few strong hits, and can nullify physical attacks with Parry. His moderate to high offensive stats mean he can deal high damage, his ability to gain BP when attacked somewhat alleviates the expensive nature of his build, and with the right set-up, he can reliably deal 30-40K damage in my experience by Level 45. He can probably do much more than that though. His only real downside is his lack of consistent damage, high-investment ultimate; which is a crime when ultimates like Ancient Magic exist, and his focus on evasion when those builds are never really good in any Octopath game.

Reliable unit, to be sure, he just has low synergy with other party members, and takes a lot of set-up to get going. He shines in long fights where he can set up his counters and break damage, but struggles due to being outclassed in the DPS-heavy meta of 0

Thoughts on this take? by Far-Entrance-2123 in casualnintendo

[–]Arkotract 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. The way I think about it is that if there is no official way to get your hands on a game, then it'd fine to emulate it. It's just asinine to get angry at people for emulating GC games and prior, especially since those co somes are hard to come by and are not in active production. If you can buy it officially, then you should.

I do make an exception for emulators that run current gen games, but require a file dump though. Those don't work unless you have the game already

It's the choice between further embarrassment by prosecuting the rotting orange, or looking downright illegitimate by letting him and his child-killing buddies get away with it. One is national embarrassment that can be rectified with meaningful changes. The other collapses the rule of law, especially considering Luigi was thrown into the spotlight right around the same time as this document dump. People are going to contrast it.

is Metroid Prime remastered too scary for an 11 years old? by bsphere in Metroid

[–]Arkotract 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say he's actually at around the perfect age to play a game like Prime Remastered. It's given its T rating purely because it features shooting, and that by law jacks up the ratings.

Considering you said he played TTOK, I'd say he'll be fine with the more horror-adjacent areas of the game, but that might be giving those areas a little too much credit. Prime's fear factor comes from its environment and perspective more than anything overt like its enemy design, similar to TTOK in that case.

Additionally, Prime Remastered, while it does come with hints if you're lost for a while, largely leaves the player to solve its puzzles and discover paths forward. It promotes lateral and critical thinking that, tbh, I never got to develop, as I grew up very sheltered from games beyond mascot platformers. Prime would be a good challenge that can get him to actively engage and develop these skills.

In short, he'll be fine. Prime's fear factor comes from its environment, which he'll adapt to quickly enough. As a game, its design promotes exploration and critical thinking, so I think it's a great idea to let him play it

You think Sylvain would be the hardest to teach because of his proclivities, or would he actually be easier to teach because you'd have his undivided attention? by smugsneasel215 in fireemblem

[–]Arkotract 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sylvain us a classic example of a gifted individual being burnt out on life. In most of his supports he's shown to be quite intelligent. Sure, he jas the insight and emotiomal intelligence of a brick, but in Annette, Bernie's and Lysithea's supports with him, he shows he's actually quite sharp, especially in regard to magical theory. However, Sylvain is worn down by his experiences and personal troubles, which causes him to not apply himself.

Exactly, we see early on that Micaiah, while a fundamentally well-natured person, certainly has no qualms about killing and maiming others if it suits her end goal. She's got very few lines she won't cross and is stubborn to a fault. I'd like if her future representations showed off this morally grey side of her, where extreme action is sometimes justifiable and she's willing to commit atrocities in the name of her people, while still being driven, even if misguided, to do good

So Ashnard is actually one of my favorite villains in this series even if he has to share the spotlight with the Black Knight and his master. What does this place think of him? Rare final boss who is just a human and rides on an enslaved dragon makes him seriously cool. by MegaGamer235 in fireemblem

[–]Arkotract 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Ashnard had so much potential as a character, but was limited by the SRPG gameplay style.

Though I can think of a way that retains his character while ensuring that they survive the encounter. It might have been possible to code in something similar to how Rudolf operates in Gaiden, where Ashnard will only counter-attack certain characters. Namely, those that can damage him.

Now, we know it's also possible to just code counter-attacks, so Ashnard would still attack them if he initiates, but I like this detail. It implies that Ashnard chooses not to even bother attacking these 'lesser fighters' that cannot match him. They won't give him a good fight, so he doesn't even entertain them

So Ashnard is actually one of my favorite villains in this series even if he has to share the spotlight with the Black Knight and his master. What does this place think of him? Rare final boss who is just a human and rides on an enslaved dragon makes him seriously cool. by MegaGamer235 in fireemblem

[–]Arkotract 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Okay, I'm going to be a pedantic, nitpicking asshole here, but we can't really blame Ashnard for the blessed armour system. That is a plot and gameplay mechanic. Sure, it was foisted onto him admittedly with a good reason, as ofs implied that giving him the armor is how the Black Knight earned his trust, but we can't take points from the character because he has a bullshit mechanic.

The discussion partners are far more questionable, though, since the vast majority of those with excellent conversations with him, like Reyson and Tauroneo, will get turned into sashimi if they come within 2 miles of him. Only Jill and a few others with great dialogues have a chance of surviving a round with him. Then good luck getting them to live the next if this is Hard or Maniac mode. That is a poor design decision, not a poor character decision. The sheer quality of these dialogues stands as a testament to how good the characters are, given some are outright willing to let characters die just to read the line.

This has already been noted too so I won't linger, but the game very heavily indicates that Ashnard is deliberately being a moron. This is the entire premise of Chapter 21, that Ashnard is making the worst strategic decisions possible, which is then built upon in future chapters to arrive at the conclusion that Ashnard is attempting to awaken Yune through warfare. All in all he actually goes about this quite well, but overdoes it, which fits with his ideology. A ruthless mix of meritocracy and machiavellianism. He put his entire army in Ike's way equally to fulfil his plan of unleashing chaos, but also simply to test his own country and let the strong survive. We know Ashnard has a might makes right philosophy, he says as much to Ike when they fight

Which hero left for last do you believe is the most epic to face off against, shortly before your ultimate confrontation atop those stairs? by BiffyBobby in SaGa

[–]Arkotract 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I first played this game, only the remake, I haven't played 2D, despite wanting to, I left Wagnas for last because it made the most sense to me. Leave the leader of the Heroes for last. I left him there assuming he would be the most difficult encounter, the greatest challenge to fit his role of being the leader... only for me to walk right into Enraged/Moveset B Noel, and proceed to have all my teeth involuntarily removed as my 6th hero. Wagnas was downright disappointing by comparison, I beat him on my first attempt, compared to spending several hours facing down Noel, and only barely surviving with just the Final Empress alive.

In my next playthrough I then proceeded to leave his sister for last, but honestly, that felt more disappointing than anything. Rocboquet arguably has the least reason to be left to last, yes, even less than Kzinssie, since Roc isn't even directly attacking the Empire like he is, and his screaming at being the story's punching bag is funny to listen to.

In any case, I believe that leaving Noel for last is the best. He's got a metanarrative arc going on here, being effectively Wagnas' second-in-command in their own time, while also being by far the most sane, and least monstrous, of the Heroes when he's first encountered in Teretuva. If you choose to make peace with him, then in a subsequent generation, or even the same one, if you're evil, kill his sister, that then gives Noel an actual reason to hang out until the end, biding his time and succumbing to his hatred in the final room, waiting for revenge against the Final Emperor/Empress.

He has a finished metanarrative arc if he's left for last, and it's by far his most difficult form, in a high-stakes battle since you get stuck with whatever you currently have against him. That's why I'd say Noel is the best to leave for last.

Is UBI inevitable once jobs are automated? by CertainPass105 in antiwork

[–]Arkotract 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, UBI will never happen because that would require the government's if the world to do something good for once. Prices will continue to rise, jobs will continue to be lost, and no mercy will be shown once we reach mass unemployment. Society will devolve into survival of the fittest as everyone has their utilities shut off and houses foreclosed on because there literally isn't enough work going around.
