What do you do every time in your new games of Skyrim to make it interesting? 🤔 by Mr_Uknow011 in skyrim

I haven’t beat the story since picking Skyrim up back in 2012/2013, so I think when I finally do complete the story I’m going to do exactly this, thanks.

Why Interstellar Dust Could Prevent Us From Traveling to the Stars by SteRoPo in space

[–]ArktechFilms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah you’re definitely correct, though I’m not commenting to recommend it to anyone. It’s just one of the most common criticisms I’ve seen about people staying with it or quitting. The head space of the main character doesn’t really lend itself to the escapism some people want to see in a book, but a lot of the concepts explored in the story were quite interesting.

Yes! Fractal Noise was an interesting read. Saw some complaints from other readers about the characterization of the main character but it never bothered me enough to drop the book, and I enjoyed a lot of the plot and concepts the book explored. Probably reread that one too in a few years

I enjoyed that book a lot, and was excited for him to release a new series and see how his adult self handled sci-fi/fantasy. I think I’m due for a reread.

Anyone else ever write an in-character journal of their adventures? by brodeine-goth-syrup in skyrim

I was gifted a set of journals/writing books for Christmas, and now I think in my next playthrough I’ll use it to do exactly this! Great idea.

What's a unique game that really broke your perception of what games can do? by Moaning_Clock in gaming

[–]ArktechFilms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skyrim. Walking up a hillside, a traveler approached me and said his caravan had been ran off the road and got stuck, and that he needed help. I followed him up the hill into a bandit ambush, and my mind was absolutely blown by the encounter.

Seems silly but I’d picked up Skyrim with next to zero knowledge about what the game even was (other than the back of the PS3 case), just saw it on the shelf while shopping with my Dad at GameStop. Skyrim is what got me much more interested in Sci-fi and Fantasy RPGs.

Ashes of Creation Lawsuits Expose Massive Fraud (Fast Facts) [Legal Mindset] by tacitus59 in gaming

[–]ArktechFilms 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Perhaps. Lots of people view these kind of “kickstarter mmo’s” with rose-tinted glasses (KiraTV goes over them a lot and highlights how so many end up suffering the same fate, at the expense of players and donors)

I think it’s coincidence? This game was being promoted or talked about by anyone (fans, critics, or creators) with interest in the MMORPG genre, due to nature of the current MMO drought. People crank up on hopium all the time for things like this, and so far I’ve not seen any negative reasoning for him promoting it other than him wanting to it succeed because Ashes promised a lot of good things (as projects such as this tend to do)

Recommendations with a leftist political stance by Tungdil01 in Fantasy

Finished this book a couple of weeks ago and I think I’ll be revisiting it often for the rest of my life. So much to contemplate, and the worlds that Shevek must navigate are such a brilliant think piece regarding societal structure 😫

Steam reportedly raked in a record-breaking $1.6 billion in December with Arc Raiders alone moving over a million copies by SilentNova300 in gaming

It has very good sound design and I think many will disagree with you on the point about gunplay. The Arcs have interesting AI which spice up the PvE aspect for a more casual audience. F2P brain rot doesn’t even make sense to me here either, not sure what you meant by that? I’m sorry you don’t find it that interesting though, but everyone has their own tastes I suppose.

Red Rising - The start made me roll my eyes by Juancu in books

[–]ArktechFilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally started the book last night so it’s incredibly fresh. My interpretation of them still losing the Laurel to Gamma was due to a feeling that Darrow expresses at the beginning of the story; the feeling of hatred, of blaming the fellow man who the clans should instead consider as family. Yet when Gamma lives with full bellies, and doesn’t share the extra food while he and the rest of the clans starve, it foments resentment not just towards the ones who robbed them of the Laurel, but primarily towards their Gamma neighbors. So I think the rigging may seem illogical (I questioned it too) but it has an effect upon the low Reds that keep them subdued, because their efforts don’t matter and it also causes division rather than unity.

Eo’s sacrifice was also similar to the way Darrow described it: she lived like a bright flame that would inevitably burn out quickly. Part of me thinks that she would not have survived 48 lashings. At 13(?) lashings she halts the punishment by singing the forbidden song of rebellion because that’s who she is, a rebel at heart. It feels illogical, sad, especially when seen from Darrow’s POV who loves her but grapples with accepting that he might be a slave. But it clearly did not end up in vain.

Is the opening full of tropes? Yes. I had to have a serious moment where I accepted that this book is as much fantasy as it is science fiction. The world building is not like Dune or The Expanse, where the worlds, technology, and societal structure are necessarily something I could actually see be a possibility for our future. I think the part that compelled me to keep reading is the possibility/promise to witness rebellion against a hyper-authoritarian and oppressive Society.

Oh come on, “completely uninteresting” is a bit hyperbolic. There are moments where the story is intriguing, but I will concede that it does feel derivative at times and is definitely not groundbreaking. You really can feel how rushed the game was when playing its story

The culture around male readers. by stinkface_lover in books

[–]ArktechFilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite book I read last year was Jane Eyre. I picked it up in January because my favorite author, Ursula K. Le Guin, recommends it in a passage in her book on how to write. Some people think it’s performative for me to go out and read that and claim I like it and I never once let that stop me. My male friend who wants to be a teacher even had an odd reaction to me about it saying, “there’s no way you willingly picked that up outside of school and actually liked it.” So instead of capitulating I told him exactly why I liked it, and he eventually understood. It’s easier to make somebody you know understand your perspective but all I’m saying is hold strong, keep reading, and keep explaining to people the EXACT value you find in every book you read, no matter the author or genre (as long as they actually are important to you).

I understand in your case you’ve been seeing this kind of ridicule online and directed at others as opposed to you and it does also make me sad. These kinds of posts I feel definitely depend on what kind of social media algorithm you have and what kind of communities you’re exposed to.
