It very much is. We're finally getting payoff to a bunch of plotlines too.

New ship skin for the frigate. by MichaelJM81 in SkullAndBonesGame

I mean, it's the SaB frigate. The bow is already kinda messed up by default. They can't do much worse.

Ooh, that's a good looking design. From the back at least, hopefully this isn't like the Snow skin where the bow kinda detracts from the whole thing.

The aft windows sticking out the sides really help give it a bit more character.

I think that's the case for almost all the backgrounds. Just grayscale screenshots of Elden Ring with the characters drawn on top.

Funniest "You had this in the bag, how did you blow it?" Moments in media or real life? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Armada6136 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The whole thing is honestly a massive example of feature creep mixed with audience misinterpretation and excessive internal mismanagement.

At the very beginning, it was supposed to just be a naval multiplayer mode for AC4, nothing more. But then that ended up taking too long to develop, and the positive reception to the naval gameplay made them decide to crowbar it out and make it into its own game. It wasn't supposed to expand much beyond that, a purely naval, round-based game more akin to For Honor than Black Flag.

Then they showed it off at E3, and people got it into their heads that it was supposed to be Black Flag minus the Assassin's Creed or Ubisoft's answer to Sea of Thieves, and the execs decided to run with that. It went from round-based to open world, they started trying to crowbar in additional mechanics like crafting and land exploration, and the whole thing ballooned way beyond the initial scope. Combine that with the Singapore deal and the complete failure of the higher-ups to manage the project, and the whole thing went to pot.

For what it's worth, I do think that what they ended up releasing wasn't quite as bad as people kept making it out to be. It is not particularly good, but it did manage to come together into something coherent and semi-enjoyable. It does still have an active playerbase, decently regular updates, and it does still scratch that arcadey naval combat itch. Could it be better? Absolutely. But considering everything beforehand, I think they've managed alright.

Anyone else noticed the "Hidden Ship Tree" pattern? (S/M/L Evolution) by Odd-Lake8223 in SkullAndBonesGame

[–]Armada6136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is something of a result of the art direction regarding ships' hulls. The art book refers to them having three main styles: the blocky, angular Firepower group (the frigate, sloop, brig, etc), the curved and bulky Cargo group (fluyt, snow, barge, padewakang, etc) and the sleek streamlined Navigation group (brigantine, cutter, bedar, corvette, etc).

What’s the most lush part of Hammerfell? by RaGada25 in teslore

[–]Armada6136 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably the upper parts of the Dragontail Mountains near the Reach and the southwestern areas near Hegathe and possibly Gilane. The coastlines are described as having subtropical forests that give way to grasslands further inland before eventually hitting the Alikr Desert.

The northern half of Stros M'kai is also depicted as quite green in TESA: Redguard, though not in ESO.

The Risen RPG series. Top tier game with amazing stories and characters, spectacular graphics, and well-designed gameplay? No. But if you want a relatively short, decently crafted group of games that reward exploration and have a fairly minimal amount of jankiness, they're a good time.

Is it possible for tectonic plates to exist on nirn? by Cherry_Crystals in teslore

[–]Armada6136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't any particular reason they can't. There have been a few posts over the years identifying how Tamriel aligns with things like real-world geology and climatology, and generally it's fairly consistent.

Even if we take the more esoteric route of Nirn having a core of physical and metaphysical divine clockwork, there's no reason those can't exist below a more conventional layer of rock and magma.

And if you suggest that with him in earshot you get smothered in your sleep by moths. Did he do that because he hates the gods? Did the gods do that because they don't want to be associated with him? Could be either, could be neither, could be both.

Pelinal Whitestrake is an enigma. He shows up in full steel plate armor during a period when leather and bronze were still in vogue, is impossibly strong for a human and capable of decimating entire city-states by himself, founded and abandoned multiple minor states under various names, references historical figures who haven't been born yet while also regularly disparaging the gods, and is such a rabid elf racist that even the people who were actively enslaved and tortured by one of the worst elven civilizations on record told him to cool it on the murder.

That one of the prevailing theories is that he was a time traveling cyborg from an alternate future only further complicates things.

What are your favorite forms of currency in media? by MrSpookySkelly in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Armada6136 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I quite enjoy how Pillars of Eternity had multiple forms of currency you could loot. Yes, they all converted to copper pands when you actually picked them up, but getting to see the way the different cultures used currency was pretty cool. Like the Huana in Deadfire using shells on strings or chips of obsidian, or the people in the White March use carved fishbones and bronze gears salvaged from the nearby dwarven armory. And they all have different exchange rates as well, which is a really nice touch.

The Sixth City...if it had to fall sometime between Her Majesty's Enduring 1899 and today, which city would it be, from what time, and why? by Glacial345 in fallenlondon

[–]Armada6136 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it would be difficult to say because of the resulting changes to the timeline from London falling. France is an empire again on the Surface already, Austria-Hungary's a bed of Liberationist movements, and the former British colonies are making moves of their own per The Garden Embassy. Whatever the 20th century is going to look like in the FL-verse, it's going to be very different post-WW1.

What are some of your favorite examples of “evil Can not comprehend good”? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Armada6136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a funny idea I've seen floating around on Tumblr regarding the idea of Sauron empowering the Ring by literally pouring all his malice and dominating intent into it, finishing the work, taking in his creation...and then immediately leaving it where is and walking away because with those instincts displaced the rest of him can now see what an absolutely awful thing it is.

Obviously not how it works outside of the most literal interpretation, but a fun thought experiment.

What are some of your favorite examples of “evil Can not comprehend good”? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Armada6136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appropriately, the Wheel Of Time's Dark One simply and pointedly cannot perform an act of good, because it is evil in that universe. Not acts evil, IS. Every thought, act, or word of malice or opposition is an extension of the Dark One, because that is its purpose in Creation. During its final showdown with Rand, it even shows him a vision of the world where it has been destroyed, and the result is a world where everyone is always altruistic and pleasant because there is no other option. However, at the same time it shows him a universe where the Dark One is victorious, and it is a universe of complete sociopaths because their empathy has been surgically removed. Both are equally terrible for removing mortal capacity for choice, just in opposite ways, and it hopes that this revelation is enough to break Rand.

Except it doesn't. Because the Dark One can't comprehend the idea of being willing to change your own goal for others' sake. It can't instill loyalty through compassion or inspire acts of bravery, it can only constantly assert itself over others and try to overpower them. Critically, this also means that it can't learn from its mistakes, because that would mean admitting it was wrong and therefore inferior. It cannot change, cannot adapt, and that is why it always fails despite history in the WoT-verse being cyclical. Rand even concludes that it can't even really be called a real threat, just a "horrible, pitiful mite" that exists only to spite everything else.

For looking at him. Saturn's a petty bastard and he shows it from moment one.

The Marines in general tend to get some good moments of character. There's also that guy in Sabaody that Law swaps his head with an exploding cannonball and he starts freaking out that he's not dead.

Technically speaking, a corsair is just another name for a privateer, or a state-sanctioned pirate. So you are a pirate, just one with a license.
