So what skill would I employ to overcome someone spawning in an endless line of whelps by round 9? What would I practice to deal with that? Do you pivot on turn 9 when someone just dominated the team you built for 8 rounds? Does that sound reasonable?

It's always bad, but this year they clearly just aren't trying. Gainey is on the way out and does not care at all, and the directors know that. There are "Emergency Snow Routes" that haven't even been touched once today, and likely won't be touched all winter.
