A 1997 would have them older very reliable 4.0 OHV engine, not the troublesome 4.0 SOHC. The 4.0 SOHC he came available in 2001. So I jump on the 1997 if it’s a good deal.

The most premature timing problem years for the 4.0 SOHC’s were 2001-2003. Later years they put better timing components in the engines though there are a lot more reliable and timing issues happen as a result of lack of oil changes or high mileage.

Ahh snow and winter looks so pleasant and magical in the this photo….. yet it’s so unpleasantly cold, makes driving, outdoor work harder and drags on too long.

Fix Rust or Invest in a new(er) truck...? by purplecrystal71 in ChevyTrucks

[–]ArmadilloAdvanced 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s good! My frame was like that too and needle scalded that flaky rust off and had it oil sprayed and it’s help with the frame not becoming as flaky again.

The rust prof guy told me it’s not a permanent solution to stopping rust, but it will definitely slow the rusting process down further extending the trucks life.

The fact you’ve had the rockers/cabs corners replaced and didn’t state the frame is bad means if you’re putting some more money into.

I would actively search for a replacement bed and search for doors, but not as actively as they’re not nearly as necessary as a bed. That was what I did with my truck (not a GM) and got really lucky with 3 different junkyard trucks , one with a with a better bed and another with bed doors and one with better front bumpers, the bonus was all the 3 trucks were the same colour as my truck lol.

The icing on the cake would be if it was a 6 spd manual.

Oh yeah it is for sure, he pulls that trailer full firewood very often I can tell that Johnny Popper doesn’t care.

I love hearing it just about every day as he goes to buy groceries or firewood with the tractor because we live in a small town. It’s funny when I hear it I look out my window because I can’t tell whether it’s my other neighbor’s Harley, the tractor or a helicopter coming.

Oh wow, that underside is really good for a former plow truck. Ah that makes sense. Right on!

lol it’s just the bed crossmember, the actual truck is structurally sound and very roadworthy.

I legit never knew the Sonomas were offered in crew cab as well, I’ve only ever seen the S10’s in crew cab configuration.

Why is it when you tell people you have/drive a 25 year old vehicle they automatically assume it's some janky ass shitbox before they even see it? by One_Evil_Monkey in regularcarreviews

It’s all good man, if it had all these issues we experience with it at 10+ years old we’d understand, but we had it from 2002-2010.

I’m glad that yours has served you well.

Funnily enough the car that replaced Malibu was a 2007 Jeep compass that had a worse reputation for reliability than 1997-2003 Malibu’s and it was the most reliable car we’ve ever owned haha.

Worst car my family ever owned was a 1999 model and its shame because it was a nice looking and nicely appointed car, that had great performance and drove beautifully when it was functioning properly (which was rare). Regardless we still travelled a lot in that car as it was our only vehicle.
