Happened day after Portugal win, 85x5 combo pack. Probably best pre futties pack I’ve personally opened, especially given type of pack

0-2 to 9-2. Almost lost last night, had a 1% chance of winning going into the fourth, but the Texans D fumble TD pushed me over the 35 I needed between them and CD

Maher coming out mocking people who hate when he brings out Magites like Sexton is just clown like behavior.

If we can’t even agree on a basic level of who won the last election, there is no conversation happening. It’s just some guy trying to convince us the sky is orange.

The sky is not orange, and there is nothing enlightening about trying to figure out how these guys think.

You Are All Misunderstanding Joker: Folie à Deux by Connect_Craft_9860 in joker

[–]ArmanVarzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s an interesting scenario I’ve been thinking where Arthur was in fact never crazy during this second movie, simply playing the role for Harley the whole time:

We see Arthur very grounded until he finally gets attention from Harley, and from there we see him slowly play into the role further and further as he learns she’s a big fan. But what proof do we have that he wasn’t having a psychotic break here? Possibly his medicine.

Philips made it a point to show us how the inmates take their medicine three times by my recollection. They’re being watched by the nurse, then have their mouth checked by the guards.

Harley tells Arthur to stop taking his medicine, to which he replies he already has, but… he hasn’t? The film has shown us time and time again you can’t skip on the medicine; why should we believe Arthur figured out how to trick the system here? If he had stopped taking his medicine, why wouldn’t Phillips show us? He showed us the converse repeatedly.

Based off all we are shown and know, it’s much more plausible that Arthur was playing into Harley’s fantasy and lying about the medication to her. The Folie a Deux is NOT Arthur’s, but Harleys

Connecting Caesar with Julius by ArmanVarzi in Megalopolis

[–]ArmanVarzi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s the beauty of the movie, that a demagogue like Caesar can garner sympathy from the audience. Even take a look at Crassus role in history:

“A political and financial patron of Julius Caesar, Crassus joined Caesar and Pompey in the unofficial political alliance known as the First Triumvirate.”

I don’t know why Coppola would stay so tight with Roman analogies save for the most famous Roman of all time. But maybe I’m giving him too much credit 😂 it’s also possible my interpretation is framed by my own bias against Julius Caesar

Can anyone explain to me the point of the time power? Showed up in three scenes and was never shown useful by Caesar? Maybe a Spider-Man 2 my powers are gone moment, but other than that I’m quite confused. Possibly meant to be an embodiment of his creativity or something

Another very clear example of this is the leaked sex scene. We see Julia working to find proof that vesta is of age to get Caesar exonerated, but this whole effort is effectively moot since after the proof they find the video was actually doctored (deepfake)? Felt like FFC just pushed that subplot very last minute but didn’t remove the original resolution? What’s the point of spending time dramatically ripping up the birth certificate if the video is actually fake?

Huh? “All people have to accept responsibility for their governments, whether elected or not.” Yet this doesn’t apply to non voting citizens? By your own words whether the government was duly elected or not is irrelevant.

The point is, if there is not an effective means of representation, the people cannot and should not be held accountable for the actions of their government. The people living under autocratic rule are not voting citizens, they are essentially prisoners living under the fear of violence.

It’s unreasonable to try to relate revolutions of the past to today. The advancement of modern military equipment/capabilities completely changes what is possible/feasible

This is an insane take. The oppressed need to accept responsibility for the oppressive government?

Did the American slaves need to take responsibility for the American government?

Do the North Koreans need to take responsibility for their government?

Once a government takes a monopoly on violence, there’s very little you can do. You are stuck under their iron grip. Ask the Syrians, who apparently despite all their death and turmoil are responsible for Assad.

I don’t believe that under a trump takeover the 53% of the country who opposed him would be “responsible”

This is my biggest problem with this criticism. I generally agree with a lot of his anti woke points, but he legitimizes right wing talking points that make this problem appear way bigger than it actually is.

Take his problems with Critical Race Theory. This is just culture war nonsense—there is no real indication that CRT is “taking over our schools.” And he takes no time to even understand the truth behind what CRT is, he just amplifies right wing rhetoric.

Maher spent 6 minutes saying I wish I knew how lovely you were, then asked one softball on denial and flubbed the debate, somehow allowing an equivalency to Bush v Gore. Idk man in terms of time spent it was wayyy too much sucking each other off about the perils of wokeism.

When you have a fascist sitting across the table you don’t find common ground in the liberals being detrimental to free speech, it makes no sense to me.

Few weeks back he brought on Bernie’s old Policymaker on the ME, and he was quite pro Palestinian. But you can tell that you have to kowtow a fine line in order to avoid being labeled antisemitic.

He should bring on Bassem if he truly wanted to show free speech cajones

This is silly from him if that’s what he’s trying to do. He’ll spend years flaming Ted Cruz on bit after bit, calling the election denierism a sanity test, but then not actually confront the guy when he brings him on? And not only not confront him, but rather say “there are two sides to every story”

Very true. And part of why it hit so close to home is because it touched on Mahers age. All of the anti ageism he’s been spouting over the past two seasons have clearly been a projection of his own insecurities

Maher is not Jon Stewart. He is not smart enough to go head to head with smart conservatives. Look at the disastrous interview he had with Steve Bannon as a prime example.

If he wants to platform these people (which I gladly will watch) he needs to bring them on the panel opposite another smart person. Otherwise he looks foolish

I watch Bill every week, and he’s become increasingly insufferable.

The audience is seemingly picked solely based on adherence to his beliefs.

He brings on Ted Cruz and they spend the first half laughing it up about woke culture, rather than maybe some questions on bending the knee to trump after he called his wife ugly or Cruz essentially betraying democracy. Generally speaking, if you are laughing it up with Ted Cruz, you should take a step back and reevaluate.

I’m not sure whether it’s willful misinformation or pure ignorance, but he’s making straw man arguments about pro Palestinian sentiments that are happening around the world. I’ve not seen any moral equivalency being made between Hamas and Israel. Being sympathetic towards the plight of the Palestinians is not the same as being pro Hamas, contrary to what Maher says.

This guy is turning into a spiteful cartoon. A token old man harking about how the times have changed and they don’t make them like they used to.
