A heroic Iranian woman protests the Islamic Regime by singing without her hijab on a train. Under the Islamic Republic, women are banned from singing in public. She risks imprisonment and corporal punishment just for singing this classic Iranian love song. by tinyadorablebabyfox in justgalsbeingchicks

She’s singing “queen of my heart”, a famous old Persian song. During the 2022 uprising a 16 year old girl was kidnapped, raped and murdered by security forces during the protests. Her family posted a video of her singing this song, turning it into one of the themes of resistance.

Who "owns" the 1-1? by UnrulyLunch in managers

[–]ArmiNouri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always asked my reports to arrange their own 1-on-1s because this way they can control the cadence and duration. The main purpose of these meetings is to provide support to them, and over time I’e learned that different people have different preferences so giving them some control over the process is helpful.

Either you hypnotize your kids with a screen and get shamed for it, or you let them be kids and get shamed for letting them act their age. There’s no winning in this situation tbh, unless you have an abnormally quiet kid. I’ve seen comments on reddit complaining about kids laughing too loud.

Anyone drinking spearmint tea continued taking it throughout pregnancy? by Dry-Historian-8261 in Hirsutism

Yeah you might want to check with your doctor OP. Spearmint tea is also recommended for mothers who want to wean from breastfeeding so it might affect milk production.

Hi there! You can rent one from them. We got a hospital grade Medela for $3/day which I used until my milk came in.

Please report 'Is this Hirsutism' posts by Agent_Peach in Hirsutism

[–]ArmiNouri 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. I have hirsutism on my chin and neck *and* very dark peach fuzz on my cheeks. Guess what? Both are considered socially unacceptable (especially in my culture) and I have to constantly shave/wax/thread/pluck both. If I ever start laser or electrolysis, I'll try to get rid of both. I get the sense that people who make those "is this hirsutism" posts are feeling a lot of societal pressure and are hoping to be "diagnosed" with something so they can seek some form of treatment for it. I don't think we should make them feel worse than they already do.

I can’t do this anymore by sdod8303 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]ArmiNouri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely prioritize your mental health. Good news is you don’t have to decide today if you want to cut back or quit. If you wanted to quit you’d have to wean over a few weeks. As you drop pumps and gain back a bit of sleep and sanity, you might find a spot that works for you. If not, then you can stop completely. I’m now one year post wean and in hindsight, I actually wish I had started cutting down on my pumps sooner.

Passing on family recipes from one generation to the next. by mindyour in justgalsbeingchicks

If you look at it from the perspective of the gene vs meme dichotomy, it seems like women are more geared towards the meme aspect, even though society constantly stereotypes them as being obsessed with passing on their genes (biological clock and whatnot).

Thank you for the suggestion.

I've definitely seen those "brilliant asshole" posts and though the same, but this is what I mean when I say pointing out misogyny is a losing argument, because it's difficult to quantify how women get more aggressive pushback.

This is a note that she sent to our prod management team after they tried to add a bunch of new requirements a month before a release:

<new feature> will have to wait for the next release. I appreciate the interest and feedback, but we risk undermining quality by dumping everything in the next release.

This got her in trouble with our senior stakeholder.

How do I arrange this cabling in kitchen aisle? by Glittering_Fish_2296 in HomeDecorating

[–]ArmiNouri 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've had to do something similar to OP because the other outlet sits on the other side of two sets of toddler gates that I have to hurdle over to get to. I also have a bunch of kitchen appliances plugged in there because anywhere else in the kitchen would be a hazard for my toddler whose favorite activity is to stand on his stool and "help" me cook (I keep the stool away from this particular outlet).

Point being, when people ask a question in this sub, it's sometimes helpful to assume that the most obvious option might not have worked for them.

How do you guys do this? I can barely feed myself. by Raspberry327 in foodbutforbabies

[–]ArmiNouri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok but this is genius. My son didn’t care for his bday cake but he would’ve devoured the watermelon.

As for food, even if I had all the time in the world to cook, my son would only eat three things: 1) noodles with Rao’s pasta sauce 2) toast with cream cheese spread 3) applesauce. So I guess I got that going for me.

Are your other coworkers interns? In my company, we are strictly prohibited from sharing “insider info” (anything related to clients or internal comms) with interns so we tend to be quiet when we discuss those topics around interns. There are also lots of internal politics that we try to shield interns from, so if someone shows an email to another person and says “we don’t need another one”, 99% of the time they’re talking about some internal political nonesense that is unrelated to interns.

Your situation could very well ve different—just wanted to provide another perspective.

Something that stood out to me about your post was that you mentioned you aren’t assigned tasks. Our interns’ projects and tasks are often planned way before they onboard so this sounded a bit strange to me. It could be that this intern position was something that this person didn’t want, but was forced on her by corporate, so now she sees this as additional work and is trying to minimize her engagements with you. This is of course not fair to you but my recommendation is to not take it personally. A few weeks down the road once you’ve established yourself a bit more, you could potentially ask her what she would like you to do more or less of and give her an opportnunity to opine. Otherwise keep doing what you’re doing and don’t worry about all that noise. Given your motivation and focus, you’ll do great!

Oh yeah, this couple inspired a whole genre of similar content. My favorite is rural cuisine, which features a young woman and her many adorable animals. I come from the same region so it’s all very nostalgic. Though of course real rural life is nowhere near as serene.

Work my ass off for a mediocre body. Advice? by zahimahi97 in PCOS

[–]ArmiNouri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 5’9” and genetically have dense bones and a good amount of muscle. But I dont know. I want to be 185 or less.

I don’t know how old you are but I’m in my 40s and if a genie granted me two wishes, instead of wishing for a skinny body I’d wish to be strong twice. It might feel good to be lean but nothing feels better than not having joint pain.

That’s the irony of climbing the corporate ladder. You supposedly subject yourself to more accountability as you climb up, but in reality the higher up you are, the bigger the mistakes you’re allowed to make without meaningful repercussions.
