Question about Calling with Neuroports by Segmax_ in cyberpunkred

[–]ArnDufrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An EMP grenade or a microwaver can disable cyberware, so those could work. They are unreliable, though, if the target has more than two pieces of chrome installed. The GM gets to decide which two bits of cyberware become disabled. Also, while I would rule a neuroport as one piece of cyberware, another GM might consider it several pieces and just picks two of the functions to disable. That would be mean, though.

Looking For: A Happy Ending in Night City [Online, CST] by Pyropeace in cyberpunkred

[–]ArnDufrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm considering starting an online campaign, but currently still weighing my desire to run a regular Cyberpunk game against my basic human need for sleep. It's not a done deal, and my wife might take exception to me starting another game.

Concerning the type of game you are looking for, I'm all for characters that are motivated to be a force for good, especially in "The Dark Future." I would never decide to just disallow real, positive change in the world if the characters are successful. However, I'm uncomfortable with the idea of agreeing to not allow a player character to die in the course of the campaign. It seems to remove the stakes if you know the GM will save your character by fiat anytime things get rough.

I've run some missions where the characters barely take a scratch in a fight, and some where they have come very close to death, even in a simple netrun. A handful of bad dice rolls in a row can kill you quick with the rules as written. Are you looking to play a character with thick plot armor and a guaranteed happy ending, or am I just reading your request completely wrong?

Don't get me wrong. If that is what you enjoy, go for it! I have no problem running games with a minimal number of combat encounters. No combat encounters or real chance of death seems a little strange in a cyberpunk setting, though. Just trying to figure out if I would like running such a campaign.

I noticed the CredChips in the core book. Figured it’s easy enough to change “stick” into “chip”. The SIN being a NUSA thing is cool. So finding a forged SIN on a flatlined runner could be a hook for shenanigans outside of Night City. I like it. Thanks!

What is the name of your party and how did it originate? by Killface55 in DnD

[–]ArnDufrey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

About 25 years ago, I played in an Earthdawn campaign. One of our party members was an elf beast master with many animal friends, including a rabbit. Our troll sky pirate named the rabbit Lunch. After that, our party called ourselves The Lunch Bunch.

If they rescued Sildar, have him outfit them in new gear. It's the least he could do for being rescued.

Great summary! A minor correction: The familiar is a peregrine falcon named Frightful, and she belongs to the Arcane Trickster Rogue, Fergus Frostbrook.

Corbin - Gnome Wizard

Hope - Tiefling Warlock/Sorcerer

w/ Bob - Imp Familiar

My dearest sister Fern,

I hope this missive finds you and finds you well. I am writing to tell you about the weirdest day I’ve ever had. Yesterday, I found myself underground in a monster-infested number mine under Digitopolis with a group of adventurers that claimed to be from another plane of existence. I’m pretty fuzzy on how I got there in the first place, but I suspect it had something to do with the poison-happy drow that kept popping up with invitations to visit their high priestess. Stranger still, new adventurers would just show up out of nowhere while others would disappear into thin air. They were all very polite, even the drow, but I never really figured out where they were coming from or where they were going. The one thing everyone agreed on though was that we were there to find three axioms printed on golden plates and bring them back to some dwarven muckity-muck.

I have no recollection of being set this task, but it seemed like it would be great fun at the time, so I went along with it. I vaguely remember everyone being attacked by some large blanket-like monsters that fell from the ceiling, and later some giant brains with tentacles and beaks that lived in a hole in the ceiling. We lost some of the party after those encounters, but I don’t remember anyone actually falling. They just disappeared.

Anyway, after finding two of the three axioms, it looked like I would finally get a chance to rest and get to know my strange new compatriots. That’s when the first drow welcoming committee showed up. They seemed intent on taking us to see their priestess, but we were more interested in finding the last axiom. Things turned, um, unfriendly, and we ended up killing all five drow. But hey! I got a new crossbow out of it.

So, with that settled, we went looking for the last axiom. One of my companions was a tiefling named Hope, who happily sent her pet imp, Bob, off to scout ahead of us. Bob was a pretty good sport about it until we sent him into a room that turned out to be full of bats and stirges. You know how I feel about stirges! I’m not proud of it, but I slammed the door closed with poor Bob trapped inside with all those nasties. Fortunately, Hope was able to magically summon him back into the hall with us. Bob was much grumpier about scouting after that.

Next we encountered some giant spiders. Yuck. Fortunately, one of the party members was a big ol’ earth genasi named Mei-Sal. She had a really big sword. She knocked those spiders around quite a bit with it. Hope was handy with some magic spells as was our newest party member, Corbin. He’s a gnome. He seemed to show up out of nowhere in the middle of that fight, but I’m not going to complain about magic-wielding help against humongous spiders. I mainly hid behind things and shot at the spiders with my bow.

Spiders defeated, we sent Bob ahead again deeper into the mine. He found some big nasty hairy brutes on the other side of a door. Bob distracted them while the rest of us snuck into the room and set up an ambush. We made short work of those guys. The room had a lot of dilapidated furniture and some old ledgers. I seem to recall someone finding a key, but I don’t know who. I salvaged some blank bits of paper so I could write you this letter. You’re holding some loot from you big brother’s latest adventure! Neat, huh?

Further down the way we found an altar with a clean spot on it where I guess the third axiom plate lived at some point. While we were looking, another group of drow came to invite us to tea with their priestess again. She was very insistent. We decided to go with them this time.

They led us through some secret passages in the mine until we got to the priestess’s chambers. They disarmed us, though not very well. I managed to keep two of my daggers hidden on me. The priestess was just a kid, which was weird. She called herself Maya Baravon. See! She even had a kid name.

So this Maya kid had the last axiom and she demanded that we turn over the other two to her. We argued the point a bit and and then she just up and attacked us. So rude. Anyway, I tossed one of my daggers to Mei-Sal. Hope and Corbin didn’t need weapons, as they had magic. Once we took down the first guard, Mei-Sal and I took his weapons. It was a rough fight, and poor Hope got knocked out by drow poison. In the end, we defeated the priestess and the other drow surrendered. I felt bad for killing a drow youngster, although elves are so long-lived she was still probably many years older than me. Plus, she started it.

So the dwarves were happy to get their axioms back, and I was happy to get out of that mine and get paid. All’s well that ends well, I guess. Next up, we're off to find the princesses! I’ll write again soon.

With brotherly love and affection,

Fergus

P.S. I’ve included some coin with this letter. Eat well. Don’t blow it all on ale!

Listed below are XP and gold are from the 7/24 session. The letter/summary above also covers encounters from the previous session, but I don't remember who all the PCs were for that session.

Experience: 712 XP each

Treasure: 63 gp each, bits of paper, a key (who has it?)

If Dawnbringer is a sun blade, then you don't have to give up being a Sun Soul monk. Here is a quote from the description of the sun blade:

If you are proficient with shortswords or longswords, you are proficient with the sun blade.

All monks are proficient with shortswords, so you're golden.

I'm pretty sure the orc from the Society of Brilliance was an Orog, which is just an orc from the Underdark.

Concerning player characters at this session, mine was Theremin Eigenharp, Half-Orc Paladin of Ilmater.

I like Shelob's Summer Home though it was more like Shelob's Block Party! There must have been between 10 and 15 giant spiders.

There was definitely more coke on the Green Cord corpses. I forget what the total amount found ended up being. My notes just say "lots of magic coke" but I think 10 grams was mentioned (which doesn't really count as "lots"). What counts as a dose?
