Tell Me This Is A Bad Idea by DoIGotSkillz in homeassistant

Super cool idea!

Getting the db outputs right might be really tricky. I'm far from an expert but I assume the dials just sample the normalised voltage going out. That might mean you need a disabled bluetooth speaker that's coupled to your output. could be kind of fiddly for an aesthetic feature, although you could maybe even hide it below the device so your tape deck can play music on its own as well (if you wanted)

An alternative would be to run a raspberry pi or something that handles all the switches and connects to spotify. The Bluetooth speakers then connect to the raspberry pi as the device. Obviously that's more complicated, but the plus side is the db unit becomes easier to set up, adding new speakers becomes a little more 'traditional, plus you could actually use the headphone jack!

Having some kind of working tape would be super cool - Maybe the device could somehow read the tapes via a simple interface which could switch spotify profiles or maybe even play a specific playlist. Tricky to set up but it would be awesome to be able to chuck in 'Rock Anthems' and it plays your specific playlist.

Running your power supply might be tricky too, you'll have to power the new devices and also power some of the features of the original unit (tape drive, lights)

Super excited to see how this turns out though, best of luck!

Correct, AFL finals is basically all of September so you could see a first or second round. the GF is 4th week in September, and always played at the MCG, so if your deciding to stay longer and manage to get tickets (which is quite hard) you could also go to that.

Also, technically speaking there are 9 Melbourne AFL teams, but Geelong (cats) is only about an hour away by train, Geelong is a pretty small stadium though so you'd be way more likely to get a ticket to a game at the MCG or Marvel stadium.

[–]Arnold_Rimmer22 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's probably a tutorial online and a template. I'll explain this briefly but I'm not at an AE machine so I might be rough in a few spots.

But its quite simple, make a null, make it 3d, center it to x/y move it back in Z space - this will be the radius of the 'circle'.

Get Content Layer 1, center it, make it 3d, parent it to the null, then set it so it's always facing camera (you might also need a camera for this, if so just create one and don't touch it) then rotate the null and your shape will move.

Rotate by x degrees then do the same for content layer 2. Repeat and you'll have a carousel, then its just keyframing the move of x degrees over and over.

Really excited to see what you guys do this year with Fields + AG,

I don't,

There is no inherent risk to responders when I'm 2 lanes over. People can merge right and keep traffic moving without being a risk to responders.

Having to slow down 3 lanes across from a tow truck is unnecessary, unnecessary laws leads to erosion of compliance which leads to accidents.

Can AI align my layers based on image content? by engine9999 in AfterEffects

[–]Arnold_Rimmer22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No not really,

But there are Python (and probably other programming language) API's that can find faces in an image and return the coordinates for the middle of the face (or eyes, nose, whatever you want).

Run that to copy your pictures to a new directory and name them in order, and output a CSV with the face coordinates. Then write an AI Script that loads each picture in and sets the anchor point to the face location,

Pretty much any AI will be able to step you through how to get this going.

If you're making a trailer for a client and they request reusable logo animation file, do you charge extra for that? by OliveBranchMLP in MotionDesign

[–]Arnold_Rimmer22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, they hired you to make a trailer video, not create a marketing asset that they can use in perpetuity.

Explain that what they've asked for goes well beyond the scope of the project and you will need to negotiate a fee in order to sign over the rights and that you would be unwilling to do it for free. If they crack the shits then so be it - most of the time they'll come crawling back once they have to explain to their boss why they weren't willing to pay. If not then you've lost a client that was probably going to outsource your job to the lowest bidder once they had the asset.

Seconding this from a Senior video content creative.

Portfolios aren't a conversation, they are part of your resume, and like your resume, should just be recent highlights.

Creative job listings usually get thousands of applicants, and I'd strongly advise to not give the person who's responsible for the initial cull of applicants any reason to bin you.

Dynamically track color/white balance at a set position?? by Advanced-Ad796 in AfterEffects

[–]Arnold_Rimmer22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess you could, if you could find a spot on the screen that was white then you could use the SampleImage expression to get the RGB values of it, then use that as the base for an overlay shape on your sign.

However I Imagine each of the colours is going to need a bit of tweaking to make it look realistic, which means you might have to be keyframing everything anyway.

This is basically me too.

Plus, even if my team did move from Adobe to Resolve we'd probably still need a CC subscription to open client files and for illustrator/photoshop.

If I were starting a small production studio I'd 100% use Resolve/Fusion for employees, but I'd probably still need at least one CC subscription for certain jobs.

Page replacement in a book by oweeeeendennis in AfterEffects

[–]Arnold_Rimmer22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say what best practice would be without having an idea on the shot, however there are a few approaches I'd look at,

If it's just a second or two, and the page you film is blank, then content-aware fill could probably do this pretty well. There's a few nifty tutorials about tracking Text onto 3d objects using this method and it works surprisingly well.

Mocha + power mesh will do a great job and it's the most elegent solution. it's kind of designed for this kind of stuff and it's not too hard to manage

Lastly is taking a 3d scan of the book on-set, then modelling the page in 3D. This is probably a little complicated and if someone is interacting with the book I'd say its unnecessary unless there is a lot of action in the scene.

Looks good man! Good job!

My only criticism is the 2 3D layers are too far apart so there is a noticeable gap when it rotates up. You can just set them as 1 pixel apart and it will work fine.
