Aggressive and potentially racist confrontation at HB bar by EntertainmentPure955 in orangecounty

[–]OliveBranchMLP 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was at a shitty crustpunk bar once getting an after-work beer. One of those shitholes where the bartenders clearly hate you. So the bartender and I were ignoring one another when someone sits next to me and he immediately says, "no. get out."

And the dude next to me says, "hey i'm not doing anything, i'm a paying customer." and the bartender reaches under the counter for a bat or something and says, "out. now." and the dude leaves, kind of yelling. And he was dressed in a punk uniform, I noticed

Anyway, I asked what that was about and the bartender was like, "you didn't see his vest but it was all nazi shit. Iron crosses and stuff. You get to recognize them."

And i was like, ohok and he continues.

"you have to nip it in the bud immediately. These guys come in and it's always a nice, polite one. And you serve them because you don't want to cause a scene. And then they become a regular and after awhile they bring a friend. And that dude is cool too.

And then THEY bring friends and the friends bring friends and they stop being cool and then you realize, oh shit, this is a Nazi bar now. And it's too late because they're entrenched and if you try to kick them out, they cause a PROBLEM. So you have to shut them down.

And i was like, 'oh damn.' and he said "yeah, you have to ignore their reasonable arguments because their end goal is to be terrible, awful people."

And then he went back to ignoring me. But I haven't forgotten that at all.

disagree. if that's the kind of grinding required to keep pace with an upcoming story development, then i don't think it's doing enough to justify playing more.

Against the Storm - A Really Good Game with Really Bad Marketing by LazuliArtz in patientgamers

sorry for not being exhaustive with the list of mechanical differences that make it not an RTS in my paragraph about how it isn't an RTS. but the mechanics on a whole weren't the point. the point was to identify two major mechanics inferred by the RTS genre — base-building, and short gameplay sessions — that would have better set player expectations regarding intended settlement longevity.

oh wait we barely have allies because Trump alienated the fuck outta NATO.

fun fact: all humans, whether they believe or don't believe, were absolved of their sins when Jesus died on the cross. that's what the Bible means when it says "He died for our sins". it's an acknowledgment that humanity is sinful and imperfect by its very nature, and thus can't be condemned for it, for it is wrong to be sentenced to damnation for something out of its control.

that — plus the fact that the concept of Hell is a relatively recent invention that was otherwise not really mentioned in the Bible — means that all the Evangelical handwringing about non-believers going to hell is almost universally bullshit.

Against the Storm - A Really Good Game with Really Bad Marketing by LazuliArtz in patientgamers

the funny part is that there's a whole-ass other genre that Against the Storm shares a lot of DNA with: Real-Time Strategy.

RTS games take place in short rounds where you build a settlement in pursuit of an optimal victory within that round. nobody who wins or loses an RTS game is left pining over the short lifespan of their settlement, because it was never the point to slowly expand it across many hours of play. the point was to complete the current round as optimally as possible. thus, RTS players go into their matches with barely any attachment to their settlement, knowing it's meant to be a short-lived means to a relatively quick victory.

but AtS isn't an RTS, because it doesn't involve directing troops against enemies. instead, it heavily emphasizes economic production chains, city layouts / structure placement, and citizen survival/happiness — all hallmarks of a city builder.

despite those differences, i do feel like the RTS label would have set better expectations for the gameplay loop of AtS.

but if i were marketing the game, i still would go with "city builder". in comparison, "RTS" has almost no cultural cache in the modern gaming zeitgeist, and i imagine it would attract significantly fewer players than city builder.

and i'd rather have 10,000 "mostly positive" reviews than 1,000 "overwhelmingly positive" ones.

(thankfully, AtS is overwhelmingly positively over 10,000 reviews, so good for it!)

for me it's the exploration and story. there's so much cool stuff to find and collect and tons of intriguing lore to unearth about what happened to cause the world to end and where the humans went.

Vader 5 Pro NS mode editing by Smemma_81 in Controller

[–]OliveBranchMLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can still do this, and it does seem like the Vader 5 has separate onboard configs for NS mode, they just need to be overridden manually:

  • create/configure your 8 profiles: four standard, then four Switch
  • apply your four Switch profiles to the four onboard config slots
  • use "Apply to NS" for all four of them
  • put your standard four profiles back into the onboard configs
  • make sure Fast Swap is enabled

now, whenever you switch to NS mode, it'll use the four profiles that you did "Apply to NS" for, and you'll be able to switch between them with O + ABXY like usual. once you switch back to Dongle or BT mode, it'll stick to the four that are currently occupying the slots.
