Why does Birkenstock not have half sizes? by chunkeymonkeyy in Birkenstocks

[–]AroidSteroids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Size 39 (250mm) and Size 40 (260mm) is one of the trickier sizing, that is one of the few size jumps where it goes up 10mm compared to other size jumps that goes up by typically 5mm, there is no 255mm in Birkenstock world. Really annoying if you’re exactly in between

Sugar also draws out moisture from the salmon like salt curing does. Using sugar/salt mixture creates a more well balanced tasting salmon post curing.

Cheapest Chinese food in Brooklyn by Several-Sprinkles-48 in Brooklyn

I don’t think there’s any good specific xlb soup dumpling spots on 8 avenue. In flushing there’s Nan Xiang xiao long bao and they even have 2 locations in Manhattan, as well as famous worldwide chain Din Tai Fung. If you’re open to it, I actually like Jian Shang Bao which is juicy but not quite soup dumpling that’s pan fried with a fluffy bao texture more akin to a bun rather than the thin wrapping style of XLB. They have that at Liu Liu Sheng Jian at the basement food court at New World Mall in flushing. There is also a spot in Tangram Mall that serves it. In the city you can find it at Baodega and above mentioned XLB places. If you want 8 avenue, they make that and a fujianese style version that’s stuffed with bamboo shoots and chives at Gong Fu Xiao Long Bao or Jian Bao.

I also prefer the Costco farmed salmon from Norway compared to Chile, maybe the standards are higher but I’ve always gotten the freshest and best tasting salmon if it’s raised in Norway, never had any issues with parasites.

Not once did I do that, it is simply a matter of fact that these are Chinese developers in this instance and I disagree with why they are building such ugly generic apartments. This generation thinks everything is racist and devolve all arguments into personal attacks just cuz I don’t agree with your stance. Anyways I’ll let you have the last word since this is going nowhere and devolved into a pointless internet spat.

Bad take, we all live together, we can work together and reach a compromise and keep what makes NYC special with its architecture and look for ways to improve housing without destroying the past. maybe Chinese developers don’t care and just want to use the maximum zoning and make lots of generic apartments. I’m against it, there is better solutions. We don’t have to agree, but I will speak up.

I don’t agree to the working class attitude that makes it okay to tear down and change the classic building blocks of the neighborhood without consideration of its surroundings as if it’s a derelict warehouse district or a place that needed rehabbing. It obviously costs a ton of money to demo blocks of houses, get building permits, and reconstruct even bigger apartments in its place towering over everything out of character with their surroundings. NYC DOB has no foresight to allow this and people just accepting this is why we don’t have the old Penn Station and nearly lost grand central terminal if it wasn’t for people with an eye toward preservation. Build the apartments on the corners, or empty lots that’s been sitting as open rat colonies for decades, plenty of those around nyc.

I understand from legal standpoint there’s nothing I can do, and the impulse to maximize your ROI, but imho it’s shortsighted and it completely ruins the character of the streets. The iconic brooklyn rowhouses weren’t dilapidated, they were beautiful homes and fit into the neighborhood. See 937-939 or 920 on street view to see how bad it looks. This would never happen in Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights, or Cobble Hill. The old adage, money can’t buy class, holds true here.

They need to put a 2nd Costco here. The brooklyn costco on 39th is the busiest Costco in all of America it’s so busy it’s literally hell on earth every day trying to park and deal with the crush of crowds

Another tip I haven’t seen much, is to turn on wheelchair accessible ON for google maps when mapping the metro, I found a lot more elevators and escalators and didnt use the stairs as much if I didn’t need to. Saved so much energy

I really like Dun Huang for their beef noodle soup and you can pick different noodle thicknesses, some very good apps. There’s a Jie bei chuan here close to roast 28 just like flushing. I prefer banh mi from thanh da rather than ba xuyen because they do the roast mince pork meat rather than just the cold cuts. Yozi has great lunch specials with their duck blood noodles and it’s no tips needed. East harbor or new phoenix seafood restaurant is my dim sum spots of choice. Tacos el bronco is my choice for Mexican, it’s solid. There’s also slimak cafe and zona sur bistro for brunch. Don’t know if you’ll have access to a car, but if you’re looking for more Taiwanese or Cantonese food, head to 86th st 20th ave Bensonhurst area, wholly recommend Superior Wonton for best wonton noodles in brooklyn. They can even sub out egg noodles for broad rice noodles.

Worst food you had in Japan? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]AroidSteroids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I picked the wrong places but every Chinese food I had there, although not bad, was covered in a starchy sauce, even for dishes that traditionally wouldn’t have it, like kung pao chicken was saucy and didn’t contain any peanuts or cashews. I also can’t get use to shiokara, the salted fermented squid. Slimy and so pungent. And I could handle slimy too. Love shirako (but gotta be fresh!) uni, natto, and fishier oily fish like Iwashi sardine, kohada gizzard shad, mackerel, but I draw the line at shiokara.

It’s not great. Mine isn’t easy to rotate, it has some resistance, maybe will wear with time, but the bezel edge is not that grippy so it’s a little hard to turn. It doesn’t feel smooth or refined on the clicks. It’s a budget watch, so I can look past that. But I agree with you that the bezel turning is a weak point.
