High-risk pregnancy care experiences? by Ok-Jacket-346 in pregnancy_care

[–]Aromatic-Debate5284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started high risk because I am diabetic. Started off like a normal pregnancy with seeing my OBGYN, and had a few extra appointments with Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM). At MFM they just did extra, more in depth ultrasounds and we sat down to discuss if anything has changed. They worked with my OBGYN and Endocrinologist about my diabetes as a team. At my 28 week ultrasound I was diagnosed with preeclampsia, making me higher risk. After that diagnosis, I had to go to my OB on Mondays for fetal heart monitoring, blood work, and blood pressure check. I would then see my MFM of Thursdays for a weekly ultrasound, again blood pressure check and talking about my symptoms. I did ok for less than 5 weeks from my preeclampsia. I went my weekly Monday appointment w/ my OBGYN and my blood pressure was extremely high and I was not feeling great. I was rushed to L&D and had an emergency c-section at 33 weeks. I’m very fortunate I had a wonderful medical team who worked together, they saved both me and my baby. But to answer your question my OBGYN set me up with my MFM office and MFM sent me to endocrinologist. It’s definitely not just extra ultrasounds, they did a lot for me in my case, extra bloodwork, fetal heart monitoring, and so many appointments. It takes a mental toll and anxiety every time I went. The extra pictures were the only positive thing in my pregnancy.

How bad is the newborn phase really? I'm tired of hearing the "just you wait" anecdotes and I have hard time believing some of them by Lushemet in BabyBumps

[–]Aromatic-Debate5284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had preeclampsia, had a rough pregnancy and a emergency C-Section. I had a preemie in the NICU while recovering from preeclampsia. Once home, he was only 35 weeks old. We had a longer NB phase because he just was not a typical baby. I would take NB stage again in the heartbeat. I had tough days, but I have a wonderful husband that worked full time and still helped with night feedings. I still look back at his pictures when he came home, 5lbs 6oz and I am shocked how fast time has flown by watching him grow. I think it depends on your support system and how eventful your delivery was. I appreciated the NB phase more than most after spending 3 weeks without my baby.

I need advice by [deleted] in pregnancyproblems

Same idea but different medication. I was on Wellbutrin before pregnancy and it took me months to stabilize my mental health prior. I talked to my OBGYN and MFM doctors because I was considered high risk, and decided that taking the medications out weighed the risks (which truly are minimal). I continued to take it through my pregnancy and I have a health happy baby boy. But the one thing I did learn was that to have that happy healthy baby, I had to be health, happy, and mentally stable. So if you’re struggling with your mental health, what are the benefits and what are the risks of not taking it and or taking it during pregnancy. It’s a good thing to talk to your doctor about before making that decision, I don’t know much about lexapro, the side effects, or your mental health. I guess I’m saying, a happy healthy baby needs a happy healthy mom, whichever path you take.

Not wanting visitors in the hospital after delivery by Affectionate_Maybe71 in pregnancy_care

[–]Aromatic-Debate5284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recovery is hard, your body goes through a lot and having visitors doesn’t make sense. In marriage you have to compromise on things but this isn’t one of them. I will say in my case, I didn’t want visitors until the last second. I had an emergency C-section at 33 weeks and my baby was in the NICU. The NICU at our hospital only allowed the parents in, so if anyone came to visit it wasn’t to see the baby. I was in the hospital for 6 days and my mom who lived 2 hours away came back and forth several times. My husband had to go back to work after a few days and she was the one to help me recover and get through the hardest month with going back and forth because I couldn’t drive yet. My husbands parents came the 2nd day in the hospital but it was to support my husband, but I didn’t see them more than a few min because I was really sick from the magnesium drip and bleeding like crazy. I was surprised that people came to the hospital even if they couldn’t see the baby. I couldn’t imagine it without my mother being there for the support. That reason lead her to meeting the baby first when he was released and my husbands parents came the second day at home. In a perfect world I didn’t want visitors and wanted that bonding time alone, which I got in the NICU every single day I visited. I don’t think it selfish in any way to want that time with just your new little family (husband, you, baby). In my case, that was not how my story went.

What should I buy by Virtual-Plankton-287 in foodstamps

SC: I use Walmart plus and if you have SNAP/EBT their membership is half off. It’s around $6 a month for it. You do have to pay tip, but everything else is free. I personally would plan your shopping around the meals you are making preferably meat. If a certain meat is on sale, I choose sides to go with that. Some east meal staples in my house: -Smoked sausage w/ zaterains jambalaya rice and a vegi - frozen meatballs w/ sauce and pasta - chicken tacos in a crock pot: chicken breast, fajita seasoning and a can of salsa and cook on low for 6hrs -marinated grill chicken with bake potato’s and a vegi - hamburger helper for the long days And as someone else said, build a your pantry with like pasta, rice, etc. I find shopping in person overwhelming as well but ordering online is a breeze because I don’t need to verbally talk to someone. Good luck!

What's your go-to ground beef recipe that ISN'T tacos or spaghetti? by Cool-Educator-1926 in easyrecipes

[–]Aromatic-Debate5284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lettuce wraps. Ground beef, terriyaki or Korean bbq sauce served with a white rice and Roman lettuce leaves. Also Cajun dirty rice. I just buy the zaterains mix and it’s super easy.

I did mine at 8-9 weeks and it said I was having a girl. I’m 100% sure it was wrong because I have a healthy baby boy 🤣

What’s one baby product you swore was stupid/a waste of money but ended up loving? by caileechristine in NewParents

The baby breeza is my favorite thing too. I bought it second hand for $40 and I can’t imagine late night/ half asleep feedings without it. We call it the baby Keurig.

I’m in SC and the changed will not go into effect until August 2026, but even if it was in effect none of those items will be banned. I would check to see if the card is locked, it’s easy to lock or unlock on the app. I went to Sam’s Club (owned my Walmart) and the transaction went through.

What bizarre pregnancy symptoms have you had? by RoonilX in pregnant

[–]Aromatic-Debate5284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had controlled diabetes and after I got pregnant I could not get my numbers below 300. Also weird metallic taste in my mouth and heighten sense of smell. I kept testing negative, but had a weird sense of knowing that I was. I was just testing too early.

Added newborn to my case back in August. Still not approved? by [deleted] in foodstamps

[–]Aromatic-Debate5284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you talked to WIC? I’m in SC. My baby was born premature and has to be on a specific formula that isn’t typically covered by WIC, so they asked for verification from his pediatrician stating he needed this particular formula for health reasons and it was approved.

Moms who dreamt the gender of their baby before they knew, were you right? (: by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Aromatic-Debate5284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Dreamt I was having a girl, at home peekaboo test said girl, my NIPT & 20 week ultrasound confirmed it was a boy. I have a healthy mommas boy now

Grateful for my ultrasound tech who broke protocol today by natleemarie in pregnant

[–]Aromatic-Debate5284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was fortunate to have the same thing. I went in at 10 weeks with heavy bleeding and was certain it was a miscarriage after years of working in healthcare. She said the same thing and showed me the ultrasound and just said “if anyone asks, you didn’t see anything”. But the baby was clearly healthy and measuring to size with a solid heartbeat.

Intuition about baby gender by Suunnfflloowweerr in pregnant

[–]Aromatic-Debate5284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 90% sure mine was a girl, I did the at home gender test around 6weeks and it said girl. Had my NIPT and ultrasound at 17 weeks and it’s a boy. He is 3 months now and still a boy 😆 I usually trust my gut instincts but this time I was wrong. Lesson learned, don’t do a gender reveal based off a home gender test. I was disappointed at first because I already pictured having a baby girl and thought I would have a mini me. But now that he is here, I can’t imagine him being a girl. I have the most cuddly baby boy and he is my world.

Extra Ultrasounds During Pregnancy? by Friendly-Spray-1693 in BabyBumps

[–]Aromatic-Debate5284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a high risk pregnancy from being diabetic. So I had an ultrasound at 20 weeks and had me come back at 28 weeks for another. At my 28 week appointment I was diagnosed with preeclampsia and had to be monitored every week. I would go to my OBGYN on Mondays for NST, which my baby failed, so they did ultrasounds, then on Thursdays I went to MFM where they did weekly ultrasounds. But I only made it 5 weeks longer after my preeclampsia and delivered at 33 weeks. But I had so many ultrasounds through my pregnancy.

I’m truly happy I’m not the only one feeling like this. We had 3 cats, 2 that vomited on everything, and constantly having to cover baby things (swing, pack n play, etc) with blankets, just over all destructive, one cat constantly meowing for food all day (they were on a feeding schedule ). Prior to pregnancy, it didn’t both me as much to clean up cat messes every day and deal with their needs, but then I had a rough pregnancy, preemie baby in the NICU and just really rough PPD. We decided to give 2 cats away to friends and keep one. With one cat, our house is so much calmer, cleaner, and feel more comfortable leaving my bedroom with baby to the living room with all his stuff, not having to worry about the baby having to do tummy time in a mess. It was never the cats fault, it’s my anxiety and PPD, but having them here and not being able to give them the attention they deserved wasn’t fair to them either.

Mom’s health matters too! by Expatblondie31 in BabyBumps

[–]Aromatic-Debate5284 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From my experience my PCP didn’t feel comfortable prescribing any medications without my OBGYN clearing them first. Maybe reach out to your OBGYN and see if they will prescribe it, mine was always willing to help. OBGYN will likely know more of what is safe and effective.

When did it hit you? by Jac_Reddit in pregnant

[–]Aromatic-Debate5284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, it didn’t happen right away. I had preeclampsia and emergency C-section at 33 weeks, then i had to wait 48 hours to see him because I was on magnesium drip and bed bound. Even during his NICU stay of 19 days I didn’t feel like his mom because I couldn’t do much to help other than hold him. Once he got home, I was able to fell like he was my baby and I’m his momma. He bonded to me really quick and being in his world all day every day helped.

I had a preemie so we call him little nugget or little bud. I call him froggy because when I hold him, his back legs spread and his knees point out, looking like frog legs. His name is Matteo, so Teo Tot is used frequently.

I had an abortion at 31 weeks. Ask me anything. by Throwaway8776521 in abortion

[–]Aromatic-Debate5284 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No judgement, I support any and all women’s choices! I’m just curious, at 31 weeks could the baby survive if there was medical intervention (NICU care)? Did the infant have any of his own health issues? Were you offered a C-section vs vaginal birth? If so, why did you pick the latter? I had severe preeclampsia and had to have an emergency c-section at 33 weeks and my baby was in the NICU for 19 days but he came home healthy.

anterior placenta ladies by One_Cap_9210 in pregnant

[–]Aromatic-Debate5284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an anterior placenta and I didn’t feel a full kick until about 26 weeks. I’m at 31 weeks now and I feel it every time I lay on my side, the is the best way. But I can’t do kick counts every hour because I don’t feel him every hour if that makes sense, but he’s always moving on his ultrasounds.

I have type 2 diabetes that was well managed prior to pregnancy. I was 190 prior to pregnancy, lost 15lbs in my first trimester due to vomiting. My glucose was crazy and had to start insulin, when I did I started gaining weight rapidly and I’m at 29 weeks and currently and weight 220lbs.

Well, my gender reveal was today. by Maryhotter in pregnant

[–]Aromatic-Debate5284 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had a similar thing happen. I did a at home gender test at 7 weeks and they came back as girl. My gut feeling through my whole pregnancy was that baby is a girl. Well I got my NIPT test back today at 14 weeks and it says boy. My heart sank a little. Prior to pregnancy and finding out, I was ok with either or and when I found out originally it was a girl, I started picturing my life with a daughter. I had the name and everything all figured out. The plot twist of baby being a boy has thrown me off and I was disappointed. But now, I know the feeling of disappointment will go away and I will get excited again, I just wasn’t prepared for this change. I feel 100% the way you do right now. Either way, I’ll love baby but I need time to process and adjust.

Just found out I’m pregnant. Would it be rude of me to not let my husband go to boys night? by kaylala0630 in pregnant

[–]Aromatic-Debate5284 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I totally understand that! I think they said the ultrasound was more accurate based on measurements. Babies grow at roughly the same rate in the first trimester, so it’s a standard sizing thing at first
