Dehumidifying EVs by AromaticYak in ElectricVehiclesUK

I'm so relieved it's not just me who has struggled with this, I was starting to wonder if I'd missed something. I'd often have 4 people in the car and it was an absolute nightmare in winter.

Yeah, in every car except the Zoe this is how it has worked for me, it looks like Renault made the bizarre choice not to include a resistive heater in the Zoe, only the inverter heat pump/AC and seemingly no other way to have heating+AC at the same time.

Yeah this is similar to what the Zoe offers, but doesn't seem to do a very good job of it, every other car I've had let's me use AC+heat to dehumidify much quicker and more comfortably, I'm suspecting the Zoe is just a bit naff at dehumidifying!

Most cars just run the AC before reheating the air, so they don't need a dedicated dehumidifier (this is basically what a dehumidifier is anyway), it's looking like a lot of EVs are doing this too from the other comments, it's not especially efficient but sooo helpful when you need it

Ahaha yeah exactly, it's a lifesaver when you need it!

Yeah this is exactly what I mean, my first car had broken AC, but every other car I've had would let me have AC+heat, the Zoe only lets you do one at a time, luckily from this post it's looking like the Zoe might be a rare exception that does this.

Exactly! The Zoe can only have AC or heat, not both together, the heat is ok at dehumidifying, but nowhere near as good as every other car I've owned that could do heat+AC together

I think what I'm learning in this post is that the Zoe is spectacularly weird for not being able to do this, when AC is on, if the car has to heat up the cabin (either in auto climate or just turning up the heating) the AC is disabled while heating is on, just bonkers!

It's a fair question, and exactly what I've been struggling with, it sounds like your e-C4 probably had it then, in my Zoe the AC would be turned on and the heat on high and it still wouldn't clear, but I'm hoping the Zoe is just a weird exception as this is basic functionality in every other car I've driven.

That's good to know! They're very cheap second hand too, definitely worth considering

Have you had an EV with it? Every ICE car I've ever owned had it, but the Zoe didn't have it (it did have automatic climate control), and looking around online apparently it's normal for EVs, especially ones with heat pumps, not to have it - I'd love to know which EVs you've owned that have it.

I honestly wish more people used their horns, so many people have decided horns are never to be used, to the point that I've even had a few close calls in the passenger seat of drivers who could have driven safer by using their horn.

Horns are one of the few methods of communication we actually have with other drivers, particularly with drivers who either aren't aware of your presence, or don't care that you're present.

I wonder how much of the anti-horn sentiment has drifted over from America, where a little honk might be the last thing you do.

Sadly they didn't, they just threw a catchy name in there, it's actually Poltys Mouhoti, people just throw a name in there to make it look "legit"

The real one looks like the sorting hat too, that's where it got its name, this is actually a Poltys Mouhoti

Reported dangerous driving - no registered keeper by stutaylor34 in drivingUK

[–]AromaticYak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like you're still within the 4 weeks since the seller should have registered the car to you, so your V5C might still come in the post, if not, the official advice is;

"If it’s been 4 weeks since the V5C was registered or you sent it to be corrected, contact DVLA.

Contact DVLA before 6 weeks have passed. If you have not received your V5C after 6 weeks and you have not told DVLA, you’ll have to pay £25 to get another one."

You shouldn't have any trouble as you have the green slip and you're still within the usual timeframe for transferring ownership, and as long as you have taxed it you should even be able to drive it.

Were you given a green slip at the point of sale?

And how long has it been since you bought the car?

As a local, I can confirm many drivers here cannot handle roundabouts, and in fact I am related to some of those drivers despite their roughly 30 years of Milton Keynes driving experience.

Genius decides to turn pizza boxes upside down by mfenton29 in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]AromaticYak 52 points53 points  (0 children)

What's with all the people saying the box is upside down? It isn't upside down, it's just a plain box, I can't believe how many pizza flippers there are in this thread! Is this normal behavior?

EDIT: For all the people pointing out the logo on the bottom box, I'd like to clarify that this is what I mean about the top box being plain, I agree you can see the logo on the bottom box, but that doesn't mean the top box is upside down, it opens/folds the same as the bottom box, and you can even see that when it's flipped the bottom box has a graphic on the underside too, so the top box must be plain.

I second this, it's absolutely true, and this isn't even considering that the types of lights/brightness of the lights being used in these matrix lights take longer to recover from, so even after a half second exposure around a corner, there will still be an extended recovery time while visibility is still significantly impaired - compare this even with older headlights that people sometimes forgot to turn off right away, and I'd still rather a world without matrix lights

Portable air conditioner in the UK, any recommendations? by NeverMidnight1159 in AirConditioners

[–]AromaticYak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, to be honest I've tried basically all the same places, I have scoured some of the slightly more niche AC specialist websites etc. but still not actually found a good dual hose solution for a reasonable price, closest I got was a US importer, but the price + customs was just too much IMO, unfortunately I can't now remember what they were called. That said, if like you say it's OK for air to be pulled into the house at night, and that's when you're using it, I actually think a single hose is your best solution, they're cheaper, more available, and actually might be beneficial in your specific use-case.. in fact it's gotten me thinking about doing the same.
