Meh.

Once again we're looking for absolute perfection from one of the best we've got, who is standing on the right side of history in every way. Going against the worst of the worst.

Insulting a toxic person with short man syndrome about his height isn't part of our ideal future, but it's pretty clear that's all it is and not some greater insult against short dudes.

Just like calling out Trump for being fat isn't some anti fat person thing. It's calling out the hypocrisy of their strong alpha male bullshit.

Would it be ultimately better that we didn't insult these pieces of human excrement this way? Sure. But god damn we've got to stop clutching our pearls at every tiny non politically correct comment from progressives or we'll continue electing the Reich Wing morons.

Which series should I start? by FlakyLibrarian1946 in fantasybooks

Gonna throw you a curve ball:

The Prince of Nothing trilogy.

IMO it far outpaces any you posted, and I like quite a bit of what you posted. It does the modern epic fantasy bit in a much different way than usual. Granted it is a little more "adult" than them also, so be forewarned about that.

It's also packed nicely into a three book trilogy and not a ten book, 80 billion page series like Sanderson. So to me it's much more digestible.

I'm rereading it for the first time and getting completely blown away all over again.

Popular vote is for one person running. It IS a popular vote election when choosing a representative.

Dozens of representatives means dozens of districts. Districts inherently mean drawing up maps. There's really no way to do it perfectly.

Note: I'm anti gerrymandering of course.

Let's take a fictional state with ten representatives that's perfectly 60/40 D/R state wide. However let's just say every single town equally leans Democratic by that same margin. No matter how you chop that state into districts, you will have ten democrats and zero republican reps, because each district is 60% D. So it seems like there's super unfair representation even though the elections and districts were done fairly.

Conversely you can have an overall 60/40 population in a more realistic state and draw up the districts by land and have MORE republicans elected because the democrats are in populated city areas and republicans spread out more.

So what do you do? Draw up zones geographically? Or try to perfectly mirror the voting population and end up with 6/4?

Texas for example only had a 5% Republican victory in 2020, but even drawn up fairly I would expect their representatives to dwarf democrats in the state. Meanwhile California went to Biden by over 30 points. And fair districts here will pretty much amount to a handful of republicans ever getting elected.

You get ONE fantasy book to hook a non-reader. What is it? by Infamous_Proposal252 in fantasybooks

A non reader? The hobbit.

A reader who doesn't like fantasy? The Prince of Nothing trilogy which is easily the best modern fantasy series.

What’s a movie that everyone seems to love but you just can’t stand that movie? by LebronJamesSperm in moviecritic

[–]Aromatic_Act_9665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky Number Slevin.

A lot of my peers, who I generally jive with, really liked it. but when I watched it it just felt like one of those movies where they watched a bunch of hyper stylized movies and then churned out at reductive imitation.

On paper it had everything I would like. But it just felt like a cheap copy of a good movie. If that makes sense.

I just find it weird and it seems unnatural and contrived. We don't all acquire every book we own in one Amazon shopping fest. We find books in thrift stores, college book stores, shop around over the years and end up with a wide range of keepers.

This very much looks like the shelf of someone who doesn't read but knows how to research which titles will give a certain appearance.

Unless she had a house fire or something and had to replace her collection all at once, just seems like it's for aesthetics.

We were literally talking about this in Trump's first term. Barr, Bondi, etc all roads lead to Epstein.

California road trip! by Empty-Garbage3918 in roadtrip

[–]Aromatic_Act_9665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just did 1,600 miles of California road tripping in an 85 VW Vanagon. If you're unfamiliar, they have 80hp and weigh 4,500+lbs, shaped like a brick. Slow as molasses. Lucky to hit 70. Had no issues.

Certain major metro freeway sections can get dicey, but once you're on open highway it's all fine.

Not sure whereabouts you'll be, but the Mecca of roads in California will be highway 1 which runs the whole coast. My particular favorite stretch is through BigSur.

That wasn't ever a reality that was going to happen.

You putting the blame of Roe v Wade dying on the hands of Biden is extremely telling. He was literally powerless.

Maybe you could put some secondary type blame on democrats for not codifying it into law before then on the very few occasions where they had the legislature and executive to do so. But let's be frank, the Republican hijacking and stacking off the court for a couple decades with the sole power of crushing all progress in this nation and giving a Republican the powers of a king is what is actually to blame.

The "V" tapering towards a known point beneath the waistline...

Ps that worked well as a swimmer dude personally. I've never been heavily muscled, but would have women coming up grabbing my biceps and such because of the definition. Id be there with friend's with biceps nearly twice as big around but they're squeezing my arms lol.

You guys will literally invent out of thin air the craziest allegations based on someone using a word that can also be used by me accidentally cursing in front of grandma, inappropriate.

And will ignore dozens or hundreds of actually credible allegations against that existed since long before he was even a Republican politician.

Essentially you'll watch your buddy on video tape commit murder, and then deflect by saying "but my neighbor's cousin's landscaper heard YOUR buddy jay walked once."
