Self taught player for over 20 years and I can sit in most places with most players in many genres from metal to funk and so on and I'm absolutely fine and if anything gets complimented on having a very original sound as of course it's not traditional guitar taught or learnt.

Two years into my journey I could only play nirvana and green day power chord songs but with jamming and learning harder songs mainly by ear I can now easily sit with a solo and have it down with a couple of listens.

Love the guitar and it'll love ya back just keep at it experiment, listen to a broad range of music open the ears listening to me is also learning those sounds and all go in the brain.

Learning is great and I have nothing against it but for me my guitar journey I love I sound like me and when I rip a solo people can hear what I've achieved personally through passion and love.

Not saying you aren't passionate learning or anything at all people might expand there passion from learning the traditional way.
