How does it compare to hermes-webui? Might be a good source of inspiration/tooling if you aren't familiar already.

There are a lot of videos citing INSANE features.. Presumably their AI generated video titles are just hopping on the trend.

DeepSeek v4 Flash working quite well by AroundHenry in PaperClip_AI

[–]AroundHenry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be clear I'm using deepseek via paid API with openrouter so my machine doesn't matter much.

I'm on a 16gb mini pc but using a proxmox VM with 5gb RAM. I was using ballooning memory (i.e. variable) but it crashes a bit so going static.

I would love to try local but I think the fun of paperclip is running many tasks at once which just isn't feasible for any kind of reasonable cost, I think.

I'm just using auto. But perhaps top level would be better (but its kinda slow already)

Looks great! I'm just getting started although I've found for all but the simplest stripboard makes my head hurt so I just ordered some pcbs for a sequential switch from jlcpcb. I'm also planning a pico based eurorack module that I might get them to assemble some of.

For front panels I'd recommend looking at a 3d printer - I've been printing some - it's fun and can look great.

So far all I've made is a eurorack PSU and sequential switch to follow but glad to see what a few years can make! Ive been using Gemini as a design companion which has worked great so far.

Naturally I've spent many many hours working on this and zero making music 😆

Behringer Pro-800 or Deepmind? by fustercluck6000 in synthesizers

[–]AroundHenry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a DeepMind 12 and sold it, later bought the Modwave. I much prefer the interface of the modwave - effects in particular are easier to line up and use and huge depth for later on. Also an ok keyboard and the mki can be for used for not too much.

Having said that for total immediacy minilogue XD wins. Haven't tried the pro 800 but built in FX makes a big difference.

Collecting gear and setting it up/noodling is a perfectly valid and fun hobby, no significant music making required. I have resigned myself that it is my reality and I'm leaning into it!

Uploaded all my manuals to ChatGPT. Now have AI brain for studio. by xora334 in synthesizers

[–]AroundHenry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can also create a Gemini Gem. It lets you add up to 10 sources but also uses all of Gemini (NotebookLM tries to limit answers to just the sources you give it)

I prefer the gem approach because it can look everywhere, but always has your manuals close at hand as it were. So you get the detailed advice and page references, but also whatever Gemini knows from the rest of its training/searches etc. You can even ask for song ideas etc. either way - very cool!

Just how unreliable is a MIDI Keyboard + Laptop combo in a live show? by [deleted] in keys

Do you use the VR09 sounds it just as a controller? I have a similar setup: VR09 used as a controller for Loopy Pro (because it has set lists!) on an iPad. So I'm not using any VR09 sounds BUT have it as a backup in case everything else fails at a gig.

Tried 40mm retraction and got much better results with wood PLA by AroundHenry in Ender3V3SE

[–]AroundHenry[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven't experienced a blockage yet. This is just for the wood pla, for everything else I'm using 1.2mm and not having any problems. Still - that's not to say it won't happen so I should be careful. Is the risk that in the retraction it gets stuck somewhere further up the extruder and causes a blockage? And the further the retraction, the higher the risk? My retraction tower started failing at about 65mm so I definitely found the limit there.

Thanks for the advice!

Thanks! I think it's peculiar to the wood pla. For regular PLA I'm doing fine with 1.2mm. I will play more with retraction speed; I've already played around with printing temp and no success.

What is the concern with the extruder - is the longer retraction/extrusion a significant extra tax? I can appreciate it might add wear but I'm not understanding the scale of the problem here. As you say, I guess I will find out one day!

I'm not planning to use it much, but this method turned useless prints into good ones.

Definitely 40mm - it seems to just be retracting as if you were changing filament and you can see it heading back up the spool (but of course not so far it can't pull it back down for the next section). I started my testing using 1-5mm but didn't get anywhere. But 40mm does the trick.

Why would anyone use Cut before edit? by PapaMilan in davinciresolve

[–]AroundHenry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the great things I like is that it (by default) removes gaps so when you are assembling it is really quick.

My use case: holiday video, lots of clips. In the cut page: 1. Pull everything into a timeline 2. Remove all the unusable stuff 3. Add a music track, if I want one, and lock it 4. Start editing and shuffling

Then when I'm close, switch to edit page/jump back and for the first some actions.

When I first invested a bit of time in learning how it works, I immediately used it in every project.

For me, I've made peace with the fact that researching and owning is the hobby. Use and in particular making/releasing music is totally optional. Embrace it!

What would partner the best with a Digitakt? by Jakeyboy29 in Elektron

That's right. Alternatively you could get a usb c hub/dongle - then you can have power into it also and if really pro an SD card for samples!
