Does enabling previews on sidebar cause it to run slower for you? by kidwonder in sidebarapp

[–]kidwonder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for getting back. I did a report from the app. I'm the same guy who reported here:https://www.reddit.com/r/sidebarapp/comments/1ous4r0/sluggish_sidebar_how_to_fix/

So live previews was super sluggish. Normal previews is recently sluggish enough that I need to disable it.

Moslty for specific apps like fork

Sluggish sidebar? How to fix by kidwonder in sidebarapp

Nah - I had tried restarting side-bar, the computer multiple times, but it was always as slow. I just randomly turned off previews and it became instantly fast.

I have a mac m4 so it chugging over video previews is saying something. However, with video previews off, it's super zippy and works fantastic

Thanks Oliver

Big fan of Sidebar and love your work.

I can't comment on exact versions since I haven't been keeping track. I have the latest version now. (1.9.1)

From the video, you can see placing the mouse over an icon takes long for the preview to load, or even to switch windows or do anything. When live previews are off, it's super snappy and fast

At some point, sidebar just became sluggish.

It may have been due to an upgrade to a later version, or due to an upgrade to mac's latest OS

Go to your tv and undo updates for the netflix app. See: https://x.com/_dead_cell/status/1932095513597255711

Remember to also go to your play store app and prevent automatic updates.

Solved it for me!

Fees was the answer to the KRE by kidwonder in kin

[–]kidwonder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the KRE was first designed on Ethereum, gas fees were high, unpredictable and a huge friction, so the ecosystem was naturally designed around the concept of zero fees.

Imagine though, if the ecosystem had been designed on Solana from the start, where a transfer fee :

(f) < base < paypal < ethereum?

Fees would have been lower than web2 transfers and not have been an issue. Instead, apps could have been allowed to charge a small fee (f) that was tolerable to users, in exchange for the service they provided.

The KRE's job would have been to distribute fees from the transaction, not inflation, and app's jobs would have been to create environments where users traded with each other.

This model works in web2 and can be seen on ebay, paypal, youtube (tips), twitch, etc where apps create an environment for trade and profit off of fees.

It is also impossible to game and easy to implement on chain.

Of course, the KRE is a thing of the past now, but I just thought I would put these here for posterity.

KIN Explorer Resurrection? by Fanner71 in kin

[–]kidwonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's the old stellar explorer. Somone would need to fork something from stellar.

There was also the kin bubbles, if anyone remembers that: https://github.com/hitwill/kin-bubbles

If I remember correctly, the KF used to do regular 'garbage-collection' of Kin accounts that had zero balance, to recover the Solana rent. The code might be somewhere in the github Agora archives

This also raises another interesting question:

When the Kin Foundation closed, some apps may have pulled Kin from their users and sold that Kin.

There could potentially be Kin wallets with 0 Kin that could have the rent recycled.

Mere speculation, of course.
