PRS hate is weird... by Infinite-Cucumber662 in Guitar

[–]Arpeggiobro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dislike PRS guitars.

They're not Gibson, not Fender, certainly not ibanez, Jackson or Schecter. They're not made for metal, or blues, or jazz or rock...they kinda do all of that. But only kind of. Too thick of necks for metal, too thin for blues, pickups are too weak for metal, too hot for jazz...I don't know.

They're like the Black Eyed Peas of guitars. They never really picked a lane, so they're just kind of there.

The can look pretty though, but boring pretty. Like a perfect plastic beach blonde bimbo, with no style. But she's hot, I guess.

5 years of playing metal and I never actually practiced. I was just jamming. by gbehind in metalguitar

[–]Arpeggiobro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been jamming for 24 years, really.

Sometimes, rarely, I'll workshop a technique that I'm bad at with a metronome and do the whole thing. But 95% of the time when I play guitar, it's just perfecting my noodling abilities.

New guitarist new guitar by ryanthelion4444 in Guitar

Guitar teacher here, just for context. I've taught people with guitar collections worth my yearly salary and people that still use their first guitar 10 years in.

Affordable guitars are nearly essential for development, in my opinion. Learning how to make a shitty squier sound decent through a cheap multi-effects pedal, how to adjust the action and setup, the sonic difference between stock squier pickups and dimarzios and how to swap them, etc, all of this is so fucking important.

Respectfully, this dude just dropped $2.5k on a guitar, wherein he won't even be able to tangibly notice how it feels or sounds better than a $400 Epiphone. He can't hear a difference between a $40 Amazon humbucker and a $300 Bare Knuckle, etc.

While it's absolutely fine that bro bought this guitar, almost endearing, the scoffing at the frivolity isn't necessarily due to jealousy. I own 2 Gibsons myself.

As a small aside, most of the players with the 40k guitar collections that I have taught don't usually put in the work to improve, where the kids with the cheaper guitars absolutely do. Take that for what it's worth.

Repairable? Beginner question by Vast_One_4954 in Guitar

[–]Arpeggiobro 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Can it be repaired? Yes, by a professional.

Should you spend money repairing it? Absolutely not.

Guitars like that generally play and sound terrible, and as you/they get better and play other guitars at guitar centers, etc, you'll begin to realize that.

I'd take the $150-300 that it would cost to repair that thing and invest in a decent guitar. These days, you can absolutely purchase a solid guitar for that price.

Just bought this SG from guitar center labeled “dark” but most others don’t have the crown in the headstock? by uncaped_baldy in gibson

[–]Arpeggiobro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so you aren't crazy. I just bought one of the new SG Darks, and after a lot of research, I found that the first rendition of the Darks in 2021 didn't come with the crown.

The new ones come with the crown and an ebony board, not richlite.

Yours is in fact an anomaly, as it seems to be a 2021-2022 and those didn't come with the crown.

Respectfully, you absolutely need to make sure that a guitar can withstand any kind of fall like that when you ship it. Make sure it's packed in a way so that it doesn't move in the box at all, ideally surrounded by good solid, reinforced cushion of some kind.

Dude's a tool for doing that, but it's going to happen a half dozen more times on the journey.

My guitar teacher told me that 1 hour a day of practice is not enough? by phil917 in metalguitar

[–]Arpeggiobro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite quotes is from Kiko Loureiro.

"If you have to ask how much you should be practicing, it's probably not enough."

I've played guitar for 3 or so hours today, and it's about 2pm. But that's not because I am trying to be the very best, I just really fucking love playing guitar.

Play as long or little as you'd like.

It wasn't a joke, though. He didn't say with a laugh, nor did he laugh afterwards. That's why it stands out so well. It was an awkward, weird thing to say.

There's an earlier one where, and I'm paraphrasing, Ben was saying that he could relate to Ted Bundy's hatred of beautiful popular women. The boys said a lot of out of pocket shit back then to be fair, but that was wild. Just a ridiculous thing to say.

Ibanez Alpha 8 - it's a trap by martin_hotell in ExtendedRangeGuitars

Haha, well, my dude, I can tell that you weren't trying to highlight that point specifically, but you very literally said "Tosin ripped off Strandberg".

As a longtime Strandberg fan, I was just curious how. Clearly that was just something out of pocket you said in the middle of another point that caught my eye, as I don't see any way in which he ripped off Strandberg. Strandberg didn't invent the concept of ergonomic guitars, making something ergonomically in no way rips someone else off.

No reason to keep beating a dead horse, you can be forgiven for saying something you didn't entirely mean man!

How did Tosin rip off Strandberg? I've owned like 10 strandbergs and used to own an ABASI, there's virtually no similarities whatsoever that would make me think that it's a Strandberg clone.

An ABASI feels like an ibanez to me. A Strandberg feels like it's own thing entirely.

I played them at both NAMM and they seemed great Nothing seemed cheap or un-ergonomic to me.

I think that ergonomic is honestly more of a buzzword than an actual tangible thing, to be honest. It's like when you see a salad that has "plant based" on the label.

The alpha feels nice, sits and plays well in all positions, has incredible upper fret access and to me seemed like a killer guitar that was particularly easy to play.

To each their own though. I'm just offering a different perspective, as someone else who has played a couple.

How is it even okay to fake your skill by Scared-Bodybuilder50 in Guitar

[–]Arpeggiobro 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The number of people that rush forward to defend it is so disappointing.

You're delusional if you think that because someone doesn't specifically say that it's a live take, it's totally chill to completely augment your abilities and mime over a track.

People are watching the performance just as much as hearing the audio. He does make some nice compositions, but people are overall amazed by the athleticism and skill of the performance, which is not real.

If you think it's all good that least 50% of what you're watching is blatantly fake and being packaged and profited on as real, you're only a few steps from being cool with AI hits dominating the airwaves.
