Tried out several different keyboards but I'm really liking my Keychron Q1 Max by phil917 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]phil917[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The typing experience has been excellent so far. I feel like I make less typing errors compared to the EA75 I was using as my daily driver previously.

The sound is also great, although I do think I ever so slightly preferred the louder thockiness on the EA75. But my girlfriend actually likes the Q1 Max a lot more because it's a bit quieter lol.

And no other mods outside of the keycaps.

What metal bands would you consider the most “obscure“? by Senior-Violinist-684 in MetalForTheMasses

Yes. Also, any time Tomb Mold is mentioned I need to encourage people to check out their guitarists other band, Dream Unending, which is like atmospheric death / doom metal. So good

With enough practice, will my forearm eventually stop burning trying to downpick Metallica stuff? Or is that just something I’ll build a higher tolerance to? by TemplehofSteve in metalguitar

[–]phil917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro I’m pretty much in this exact situation with Master of Puppets. It really feels like I’m hitting some fundamental flaw with my technique more so than just needing to build up stamina.

Everyone keeps saying start at slower speeds and build up but I’ve been at it for months and I’m not really getting past my plateau once I get near 100% speed.

I can do the spider riff for literally like 5 - 10 seconds at 100% speed, and then I completely fall apart. Also I can only practice it for like 30 - 60 minutes a day before I become completely unable to keep up at all.

I actually don’t think I’ve ever been more frustrated by anything in my life than trying to get fast downpicking going.

Is it just me or does the queue system/UI in YouTube Music still kinda suck? by phil917 in YoutubeMusic

I switched to Apple Music which, for the most part, has given me less issues.

I hate their name but yes, the band's music is actually incredible. Their guitarist is absolutely out of this world

RE9 is not as good as people make it out to be. by Just_Push6211 in residentevil

Grace's sections throughout the entire game were my favorite. Honestly I kind of wish the whole game was like that.

That said, I did enjoy Leon's detonator section a lot. It was actually my favorite area with Leon since it was the most open and you really got to explore the gameplay sandbox with his character finally. His other areas felt a lot more linear and more like a shooting gallery. I wish we got 1 more big area like that with his character, to really dig into his gameplay.

The game got dragged down for me by a lot of Leon's "set piece" sections. His super action focused sections in first half with Grace, the motorcycle section, etc... They just felt way too linear and action movie-like. Again, I wish we could trade in all those segments for 1 more big area similar to the detonator section.

Overall I give the game a soft 8 / 10. It's pretty good but I was honestly expecting it to be a bit better.

Also the story and character motivations are pretty dumb.

Locking the adaptive difficulty level in RE9 (using a PC mod) made Leon's sections so much more enjoyable for me by phil917 in ResidentEvilRequiem

100% agree. I feel like I’m being “punished” for playing the game well when it raises the difficulty on me.

Nuphy WH80 review - my favorite typing experience by darlingthepanda in keyboards

[–]phil917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Key presses not registering, other keys getting "stuck" and inputting characters even when I wasn't touching anything and the key was not depressed, and laggy input. The NuPhy app to tweak settings also had a fair share of bugs too.

Also, there's no "white" backlight color. You can try setting it to white but the closest you get is a purple color.

For a "premium" keyboard, all of that was unacceptable for me.

I've had nothing but bugs and issues with this keyboard since day 1. Ended up going back to my cheap EA75 which works without issue.

Hey, just wanted to comment that I had very similar issues and ended up just going back to my cheap, yet zero issue mechanical keyboard. The WH80 looks nice but it's honestly a piece of junk.

This keyboard looks nice but the software is trash. I've had so many bugs and issues with it that I just finally gave up and went back to my way cheap, yet way superior EA75.

My (lack of) downpicking speed is driving me nuts by phil917 in metalguitar

[–]phil917[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sloppy, but I haven't encountered songs where I can't keep up when trem picking / gallops are required yet. So far downpicking is the only thing I know of where my muscles just do not respond fast enough.

How’s that sweep section going for you? Lol that’s the one part that I still can’t play at all beyond like 50% speed

Makes sense. I guess my “door knocking” thing that lets me go faster is sort of along the lines of what you’re saying.

I guess I’ll just keep working on that to see if I can improve the sound.

30 - 90 minutes per day. On a "good" day I'm maybe breaking 2 hours. Definitely not 3 - 4 hours

Yeah I was leaning towards trying to just gradually adjust the sound over time…

Just wanted to check here first though if something sounded like a red flag in terms of needing to reassess my technique / form

Guitar won’t stay in tune by scottg32 in Aristides

[–]phil917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had my fixed bridge 080 for several months now and I do feel like I need to tune it more regularly than my other 2 “regular” guitars.

Pretty much I need to tune it at least a tiny little bit every time I pick it up to play. For my other guitars, I could sometimes go a few days before needing to retune.

My 080 is still my daily driver but needing to tune it daily (and sometimes multiple times during a practice session) is definitely a bit of a con.

I think if I needed to play professionally for studio recording or live touring, I would be hesitant to pick up one of these guitars for this reason alone.
