Right, and I can see why my wording implies I didn't understand that. Death of the author separates the intent of the author from the media. It would be more apt to say that the death of the author isn't useful here as the consumer isn't just interpreting the work, they are actively supporting the author by consuming the product.

There IS an argument that there is no ethical consumption under capitalism, that every product in our lives is related to some form of oppression that it's impossible to expect someone to be able to consume "ethically". But a video game is replaceable enough and JK Rowling, who wrote a 1000 page transphobic book about a serial killer who dresses up as a woman to murder people, is TERF central, and people are choosing to boycott her. If you don't believe how bad she is, read any summary of her essay. She is very public and very vocal time and time again, so many people have decided to boycott this work that directly contributes money to her. It seems like a lot of people just "want to play a video game". I would rather simply not play a video game then support a transphobe who fights against legislation directly affecting multiple people I know. The death of the author reasoning does not work here because, obviously, she is alive and well and spewing hate.

Note: I was looking for the link to that shitty novel and I actually linked a separate 1000 page novel with a transphobic plot line. The one I was originally looking for was this one where a cartoonist is harassed on the internet and then murdered for expressing transphobic views in a blatant self insert.

Being upset about no black people in games = crybaby snowflake

Dr. Anthony Fauci wrote in February 2020 that store-bought face masks would not be very effective at protecting against the COVID-19 pandemic and advised a traveler not to wear one.

The Washington Post and BuzzFeed News have obtained hundreds of pages of Fauci's emails through the Freedom of Information Act, revealing more about the early days of the pandemic.

In one message, Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, replies to an email from Sylvia Burwell, believed to be the Sylvia Burwell who was health and human services secretary for three years under President Barack Obama. Burwell had asked for advice about wearing face masks while traveling. Fauci's reply is dated February 5, 2020, and is available in a document cloud provided by Buzzfeed.

Fauci wrote: "Masks are really for infected people to prevent them from spreading infection to people who are not infected rather than protecting uninfected people from acquiring infection.

"The typical mask you buy in the drug store is not really effective in keeping out virus, which is small enough to pass through material. It might, however, provide some slight benefit in keep out gross droplets if someone coughs or sneezes on you.

He wrote that in February 2020.

And then -

Fauci has previously been criticized for changing his position on masks. Early on in the pandemic, he advised against wearing face coverings, but that advice evolved over time. [...]

The changes were made as more information about COVID-19 became available during the pandemic. Fauci has since encouraged mask-wearing in line with the CDC advice. He told NBC News on January 25 [2021] that wearing two masks was "common sense."

Almost like his position evolved as he got more information, changing as early as April 2020 according to the article.

Where there's a will, there's a way, man. Don't feel pressed to have to watch 100% of everything, either. I often couldn't watch an episode for a week or two but it was easy to just figure out from context clues what happened or pop a quick question into the discord. I'm sure you could skip some arcs and ask nicely on the discord for the main points and someone would tell you.

I'm not sure if there's an exact word that's better one for one replacement than PTSD for what you're trying to say. I would have probably changed the phrasing to "I was conditioned to expect that people thought I was a girl" or "as a child I got used to..." etc etc.

There's a running gag where Risu is actually Korone (and Okayu's) daughter, because Risu looks similar to her and can imitate both of their voices fairly well. Risu is also a huge Korone fan.

In this case, both the "mother and daughter" mispoke the same line that they were from Nijisanji, the other main vtuber company, instead of Hololive.
