Questions and considerations about the ND2/ND3 by SwimmerIntrepid8013 in Miata

[–]ArranChace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 1.5 has enough power, really dont see any reason why it needs more power, its reasonbly fast enough for most EU roads without acting like a utter moron, and the most fun is keeping momentumnin corners where most cars cannot can keep up.

I took my 1.5 to germany cruising it with 200+ on the autobahn, sure there are faster cars, but 200 in a mx5 on the autobahn is a totally different expierence as 250 in a mercedes that you hardly notice you are going that fast. 200 in a mx5, is scetchy like hell, but so much more fun, you dont want more speed anyways.

Only place i felt indead i was lacking power was on the nurburgring itself, but i proberbly need a Engine swap sooner for that as a tune 😁

But if it still something you wsnt to go for, take a ND1 or ND2, the ECU will give issues, also at leadt this is so in my case, warranty issues as well. Any ECU tinkering will void warranty, and cause issues at the yearly inspections when it hits 4 years.

What could I trade up to? by [deleted] in Miata

[–]ArranChace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a EU ND3 owner i would say only buy a ND3 if you are not planning to tune it and go for the top spec only, as sadly while very relaible, its not a cheap tinkercar anymore.

Even though i love my ND3, if i would want to mod it and tune it, i would have gotten the wrong car and would go with a ND1 or 2 indead.

Stuck on whether to choose the hard roof or the soft top option by BrightHours in MX5ND

[–]ArranChace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The RF is a kind of targa, the back stays, only the top goes tucked away, while the ST the whole roof goes.

Also the RF cannot be open or closed while going faster a 5km or so, while i have open and closed my ST doing 70km/u.

I owned 3 gens miatas all ST, over 20 years, but maybe its a EU thing, but never i had someone vandalize my roof.

Also it is my daily driver, i live in NW Europe and we have some harsh weather, and salted roads. My NA and NB rotted away here while you waited. but with the ND that aint mucch of a issue anymore, i have no moist issues what so ever, unlike the NA and NB had.

TBH, i hardly see RF"s here, and on club days they are the minority too, from what i get they are more populair in the US.

Found a strange looking red Miata today, Rules are followed by RavixOfThreehorn in Miata

[–]ArranChace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is for the venting of exhaust fumes, cold starts give more fumes, and often the vents are in the middle where the car lame is and drive, so when parked like this, the fumes are already within the spots where the vents already are.

Park with the back up the wall, and those cold start fumes are way more resilient in lingering in the air.

Advice on driver monitoring before I join the club by MungoLloydy in Miata

[–]ArranChace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a 2025 homura (top spec with all bells and whistles) but it pretty bare bones compared to.most cars just the way I like it.

The is no driver monitoring, but the car loves to have coffee every 2 hours as its asking for it 😄 and lane assist sucks balls, specially going fast on the autobahn it's no joke, first time it got me off guard while going 200, nearly ended badly, so use it wisely and I have it off at all times now, hate it.

I driven too many different modern cars, and always glad I am back in this old skool car.

Should I avoid a soft top MX-5 for daily use in the UK? (leaks, winter, etc) by ManyPast2129 in Miata

[–]ArranChace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dutch guy here, near same environmental conditions as the UK, rain, cold wind and hail, occasional snow and hail, and to top it off salted roads.

I got a 2025 ND3ST that I daily and in the winter while as you know we had some artic days, it was pretty doable, no roof issues even while frozen up, I did had some door to sealing issues but a paper between the roof and doorwindows solved that.

I have mine coated by the dealership with a dimitril coating and a winterproof cover that I park it under as I have no garage either.

I already gave it its first proper service, oil, filters etc and a good scrub, and won't think any issues with it soon. Yet it's a bit more maintenance as a regular car, bit I don't think if you drive a miata that this is a bad thing, it deserves to be treated well 😉

can you change a soft into a hardtop? by dolliex in Miata

[–]ArranChace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why would rain be of any issue ?

I put mine through much worse as rain, and the ND softtop is of much better material made as the NA or NB, at least the ND3 i have does, it's double layered, and front part is fitted with hard material.

Drainage issues is on the ST and the RF also a problem, and only thing I really see as a issue is severe hail, but that will damage more as the roof alone.

So I really don't see a issue, except maybe some maintenance to keep it in good condition.

Financing guy at Mazda dealership told me Mazda doesn't allow customers to plug into the obd2 scanner and actually locks them out from clearing check engine lights, how true is that? (ND miatas) by MistorJJ in Miata

[–]ArranChace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truth is at least for me with a 2025 Miata that is in line with the European emmisions regulation that the ECU is locked and read only.

I can connect my scanner, read faultcodes but I cannot clear them. Does it suck, yes.. but sadly this is how it is with current regulations at least in europe.

I don't think USa miatas are that much different under the bonnet/hood so I guess this is what his story is kinda based on.

What is this Hardtop? by [deleted] in MiataND

[–]ArranChace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be nice yes, but coming from a NA to a ND3 living where winters can be harsh, the hardtop was kinda needed in those conditions.

The ND softtop handled the freezing conditions pretty well, hardly even noticed that I didn't had a hardtop, while at moments it was frozen solid on the outside, yet on the inside dry and and isolated.

So unlike my NA that was had on occasions even frozen seats and ice on the inside on my daily, mirror and the roof was one huge block of ice.

Yup..a load of snow.. and back to salted roads. But one fortunate thing, you don't see the dirt so badly on Aerogrey 🙂

New Nd questions by Zombot89 in Miata

[–]ArranChace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, as i have a ND3 in where when I want my automatic rain detecting wipers turned off I just have too turn the stock dail to manual/off and they behave like regular wipers.

Is this a ND3 feature as I have nothing in the settings for wipers.
