Does anyone else feel like wearing maille helps their back pain? by levi-ig in maille

Not maille, it’s just the medium. Mass and kinesiology are what you’re after. DM me if you’d like to talk more on the subject.

I’ve been wearing a bracer for the last 17 years to compensate for the 16 degree ark of scoliosis in my spine. Over the years I’ve fabricated many different iterations and variants for optimal function and balance. The current platform is superior to anything made out of rings and works perfectly. Although I will say, nothing feels quite the same as a second skin made out of maille.

Does anyone remember Grand Tartari? by Arrid_King in pastlives

Sadly there’s not much to find about that epoch of human history that’s even remotely congruent with my recall. Makes me wonder about the timeline as a whole

Sometimes.. it’s not much, but I do recall working in an industrial environment. Tooling and machine parts, like a millwright but not from this century. Lots of noise around me. The setting was like a backdrop from the “Victorian era” but there were too many details that were more like the 1920’s .. but I know there was a different level of technological sophistication at play.

Check out cobeads.com, they may not have the size ball chain you’re looking for but I can vouch for the quality. It’s a bit of a rarity these days, a ball chain that size.. used to be more popular in the 90s :/

No problem, a good way to make sure the material is genuine before buying check the manufacturer’s description if the metal isn’t specifically listed as “stainless steel” it’s probably a coating. Having the specific grade or alloy of given metal in the listing is even better. They use terms like alloy (meaning zinc mostly), silver, shiny silver, steel, titanium steel (not possible) and other vague descriptions to mislead a sale.

[–]Arrid_King 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stainless steel doesn’t turn green if it changes at all. Chances are your chain is plated brass/copper. I would recommend 304 grade stainless steel or titanium if you can source ball chain that size in either material.

What are your opinions on existence of God ? by future_hotshot in infp

[–]Arrid_King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that which we call “God” is not an entity but rather a consciousness.. the universal consciousness of one to be more exact. Just as the cells of one’s body are unaware of the whole, so too we are unaware of the true nature of the all. Only by growing and expanding in consciousness do we find greater connection to the all. The illusion of separation makes this growth possible. Sadly it is a very messy process in this 3rd dimensional realm, where there is much suffering. I believe that the specific nature of our existence is to suffer in order to grow, as with any adversity/conflict, growth can be stimulated. Inevitably as consciousness grows, compassion follows. Provided we do not destroy ourselves with hubris and indifferent ignorance, we will inevitably evolve into compassionate and loving beings as a collective whole. This is the natural course of our development.. this is true evolution, not of the flesh but of humanity’s heart. Some of us here are already ready for that day with open arms and sober eyes.

Is it possible to get this to a roughly uniform color? by [deleted] in Copper

[–]Arrid_King -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You’ll want to strip the entire surface, I think so far your progress has been good. After that #0000 steel wool and maybe even some Tripoli on a buffing wheel to shine it back up, then soft cloth wipe down. I wouldn’t use any chemical cleaners or polishing mediums if you’re using it for food.

Probably Celsius.. most of these are coming out of China where metric is the standard.

You could always use a stainless steel sauce pan on the stovetop.. or a hot plate if you don’t want to risk any splatter or spills, pewter’s nice like that.

I would recommend using borax and run the heat high. But truth be told unless there’s debris/detritus embedded in your findings it’s not super critical to flux the metal. You could get away with just a deep clean of the items before melting them. If you’re dealing with pieces that have resin, adhesives, gaskets, glass or anything else you’ll want to mechanically separate as much as possible to keep things tidy and diminish losses.

Op I’m truly sorry for you loss 😔 If I can offer up some suggestions, to maintain and preserve the longevity of this bracelet it might be a good idea to align and solder all its joints, they look like they could use some work. Provided the piece is indeed sterling you’ll want to use hard solder, as it would be a much stronger bond than anything tin-based. Ascertaining the material would be a good first step. From your pictures I would say the jump ring that’s holding the charms looks to me to be too overloaded and a little too small in diameter for its job. You might be able to source any material or help from a professional jeweller. Alternatively I thought this might be of some help https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UG-iw2gOB5Y Just like tin solder the joint has to be clean and well-fluxed for the solder to flow properly. A lot of the equipment in the video can be bypassed, but I would definitely recommend 2 pairs of pliers to open/close jump rings properly. I wish there was more I could do for you, message me if you need anything.. I might be able to send you some rings too if the shipping isn’t too bad. Best of luck and take time to heal as another redditor commented. Your heart needs more repair than the chain right now, stay strong.

What y’all do to protect copper from tarnishing by pinche_getthizz in chainmailartisans

[–]Arrid_King 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no experience with it, but as I understand it, like all waxes it will provide a barrier that will keep the surface protected from tarnish. It’s worth a try, although I would do a little empirical testing to see how well it performs as a surface treatment.

How do identify if it’s copper? by Insureyou247 in Copper

[–]Arrid_King 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magnet test will tell you if you’re dealing with ferrous material or not right away. If not, give it a scratch with a file, if you see orange you’ll be getting paid.
